Charlie Holiday Coco Cover Up
FYI: This item was an XXL. It measures 22 inches across the chest laying flat. The front was 35 inches long while the back was a little longer, measuring about 37 inches.
This box always does a great job of selecting apparel that feels very “beach” but isn’t too loud or tropical. As an East Coast kind of gal, I appreciate this! I love being in the sun, but the nostalgic coast in my memory is dotted with lighthouses instead of palm trees. This coverup features a very cute palm pattern in blue, on a white background. It also has a stylish white rope lace-up front. It is the sort of coverup you could actually wear as a dress if you wanted to, though it might feel a little sheer! It is made of 55% cotton and 45% rayon. Also worth noting is that the tag suggests hand-washing or dry cleaning which might be a bummer for those of us who like to toss everything into the washing machine (like me).
My bestie Julie helped out with this model shot because I, ironically, am horrifically sunburnt right now. I have blisters on my shoulders which means new clothing has to stay far away for now or risk, well, if you have ever burnt to blistering, you get it. Also, as an SPF soapbox kind of gal, I am mortified. Don’t forget to reapply!
Julie is significantly smaller than I am but she prefers coverups oversized, which might be worth keeping in mind when you select the size you want. She suggested it might fit like she would expect a large to fit her. Right now I wear an XL top and my bust is right at 44 inches, which would have meant a much more snug fit for me for sure and likely a little less of that breezy comfort we think of when we think of beach coverups.
WLFP Beach Blanket
I liked this blanket immediately. It has a blue pattern that coordinates with the coverup beautifully and the white reverse is an absorbent towel sort of material. The cute white tassel trim makes it feel very Hamptons to me though you could just as easily enjoy this by the pool or in the park. It is a viscose/cotton blend and is machine washable.
The top fabric is thinner and does wrinkle a little, but it is cushy and I don’t mind.
Vera Bradley Rainforest Canopy Cooler, W 16″ x H 11″ x D 10″
I am not normally a Vera Bradly kind of gal, but this pattern is just too fun. Among the florals and fronds, there are cute little monkeys and fancy tropical birds hidden. This cooler is also a very generous size and feels sturdy. I was happy to see little plastic feet on the bottom because this is one you don’t want sitting in the dirt. There are also a couple of side zipper pockets as well as a front slot for smaller items.
Here is a shot of my bestie Julie beside it for scale. Again, she was kind enough to stand in for a model shot since I am pretty icky right now. Her cute pup’s name is Falkor. He is a very, very good boy.
Logan Tay Shell Yeah Bracelet
I have always loved cowrie shells. My grandmother gave me some as a kid and told me they were lucky! This bracelet looked a little more dainty in pictures but I actually love the size. It’s big enough to grab attention but lightweight and very easy to wear. The gold chain has a slider feature making it easy to customize to your wrist size and exactly the way you like to wear your bracelets.
As far as shell jewelry goes, I love this!
Sun Bum SPF 30 Lotion, 3 fl oz – Retail Value $9.99
This SPF was a rather ironic addition since I didn’t wear it out in the sun before this burn. I was relying on my facial SPF to be enough which is the trap I think a lot of sunburn victims fall into, especially when it’s warm and tanktops are calling, and you won’t be outside that long, right? WRONG. Wear the SPF. Do it for me!
I like Sun Bum. I think it is a cute brand and it checks all of the boxes most people are concerned about when it comes to SPF:
Broad Spectrum UVA / UVB Protection, Hypoallergenic, Reef Friendly / Oxybenzone Free & Octinoxate Free, Cruelty Free, Vegan, Oil Free, Paraben Free, Gluten Free, PABA Free, Sun Bum Original Scent, Water Resistant (80 Minutes)
It has a summery scent that 100% smells like sunscreen (coconutty and sweet!), but I think is pleasant. This is a chemical sunscreen (Sun Bum makes both but their mineral formulas have a white cap!) and I really liked the way it felt on my skin and how easily it absorbed without a white cast. It is going to live in my purse for now so I don’t make more bad decisions this summer.
Patchology Resting Beach Face Mask Kit – Retail Value $20.00
Our final item is a set of two lip masks and two face sheet masks from Patchology. I like this brand because their masks are formulated to work quickly, so if you only have 5 minutes, you can still mask! From personal experience, both are really soothing after sun exposure. The sheet mask has lots of wonderful things like aloe, panthenol, and hyaluronic acid that are great for comforting and hydrating skin. The lip mask was one of those magical ones that actually stays on my lips even when I am upright and the combination of shea, peptides, and green tea extracts left my lips feeling soft and smooth.
Verdict: This Beachly review might have felt like an earnest plea for you to wear SPF (and, it kind of was) but the assortment was really fun and totally put me in a great summer mood. Again, I always appreciate how this Beachly box could really work for really any beach: tropical, colder- coast, wherever. The Beachly team does a good job of curating the colors and patterns that make it inside and they always feel chic but still fun. Though Julie fell in love with the coverup (and I sent it home with her!) it was a design I would have totally worn myself, even if only to shield from the sun in the garden. The sizing felt a little small, but it happens and I am glad it went to someone who was in love with it. The blanket I kept for myself because it actually coordinates really well with the cute blow-up pool I just bought. Well, if I ever go out into the sun again. The cooler was beyond adorable with the different plants and animals and the generous size makes it perfect for a summer get-together with pals. The SPF and sheet masks are excellent companions before and after sun exposure and the shell bracelet was comfortable to wear and had just enough gold. All in all, this was a super fun box, even with a raging sunburn.
