Lillypost March 2021 Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Under the Sea" and they included some fun facts for us!

My Easter Basket Book by Roger Priddy - Retail Value $8.99 (found here for $6.77)

This book is so fun shaped like a basket with a nice handle at the top so kids can carry it around, and of course, the bright colors and eggs popping out at the top will engage them as well! The pages feature different scenes with animals hunting for eggs. Each page has five hidden eggs to locate and each page has a different color set of eggs to find while the last page has 10 different eggs to locate. So there is a story, an egg hunt, and plenty of other things to see on each page to hold their interest! My kids all had fun with this one, whether searching for the eggs themselves or helping their little brother read it, it has already become a favorite with them!

*FYI- You can opt-out of receiving seasonal/holiday books if you don't want to receive them!

The Prettiest Flower by Anna Shuttlewood - Retail Value $16.95

My kids and I really loved this sweet book about a Hedgehog who takes such good care of her beautiful garden. The illustrations are so pretty and the surprise ending is cute and fun. There are plenty of flowers with their names written by them and this book is a great example of how your hard work can yield beautiful results. While we all enjoyed the book, Hedgehog does go around accusing everyone of messing up her garden, and she never seems to apologize for it, but instead, the story just goes on even when she finds out that it wasn't them. The title mentions forgiveness, and while she forgives the actual culprit, she never seems to ask for forgiveness for her own actions. I didn't really like this aspect of the book, but I just took the opportunity to discuss her behavior and we talked about how she should have apologized to everyone and also how she could have done things differently. Once we got that out of the way, we were able to enjoy the rest of the story and the illustrations! They did also include some helpful discussion questions and activity ideas at the end to go along with the story which I appreciated.

Stretchy McHandsome by Judy Schachner - Retail Value $17.99

Stretchy McHandsome is not a character from Grey's Anatomy, but rather he is a handsome cat who lives with his family of 8 cats and is longing for his own space and wanders off for a little vacation. He has a bit of an adventure before meeting someone who is just perfect for him. They have so much in common, including the amazing way they both can stretch! This book full of rhyming text was very silly, but also sweet and endearing at the same time with perfectly detailed illustrations to support our story. The characters were all very diverse, the adventure was just goofy enough, and the ending was very sweet. This is one of those books that I know will become a classic in our home!

Verdict: My family really loved the books we received this month from Lillypost! My daughter reads the two picture books to herself each night before bed and still asks us to read them during the day, while the Easter book gets read multiple times a day whether it's just someone searching for the eggs, or actually reading it. The fun mix of books is always perfectly suited to my family. Not only is there a great curation, but the retail value is always great, too.  The total retail value of our books comes to $43.93 which is awesome for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the April box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • My Easter Basket: $5.10
  • The Prettiest Flower: $9.60

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

Just came in to say “Stretchy McHandsome.” Perhaps a Grey’s spin-off character?

Wonderful. Great review. 🙂
