CAUSEBOX Spring 2021 Review

Each CAUSEBOX comes with a beautiful booklet full of information about each product, its origins, and other tips and anecdotes. I really love learning more about the independent makers behind artisan products and designers and this booklet had so much info! I always read this book from cover to cover!

Let's dive in!

FEED PROJECTS Canvas Market Tote

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose from three colors for this item.

I am someone who is always on the go, and I love having different large totes to haul around all of the random things I might need for each adventure. This bag is especially roomy without feeling too oversized. Inside is a handy zip pocket, a key clip, and multiple slots inside that just happen to be perfect for wine bottles. The canvas is thick, and the whole bag feels very sturdy with the brass hardware. My one complaint is that I didn't love the faux leather handles. Of course, I prefer real leather, but I have some pleather in my collection that I really like. This just felt a little more plasticky than leathery to me.

I mean, I needed to show it filled with wine bottles for scale, right?

NIMBLE CHAMP Lite Portable Charger - Retail Value $49.95

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this item OR a set of Palm and Perkins Napkins OR a pair of blue light glasses from DIF Charitable Eyewear.

While I spend more of my time working from home these days, Will is ALWAYS on the go working for your favorite shipping company. He uses his phone a lot for directions when he is in unfamiliar territory, which means his phone is essentially always almost dead. I usually send him off with one or two charged battery packs if I know he is going to be on an especially long shift. This will be one that I plan on keeping for myself, but I am guessing he will eventually "borrow" permanently. This battery is made out of recycled plastic, and holds 3 days worth of charge inside and charges really, really fast. It also has ports for both USB and type-C cords. While all of our batteries are super handy, I have often wondered about the environmental impact they might have someday when it is time to replace them. These aren't the sort of things that you should just toss in the trash! Luckily, my new battery arrived with a recycling bag for sending an older battery or even smaller electronics like a cellphone back for proper recycling for free!

THIS WORKS Stress Check Sleep Spray, 2.5 fl oz- Listed Value $24.99

FYI: All subscribers will receive this item.

I am a big fan of mists on my linens before bed. I am a night shower sort of gal, and I like to gently mist my sheets as my water is getting hot, then fall into a soft and beautifully scented bed after a warm shower. Truly, it's heaven. This mist is a blend of essential oils including lavender, chamomile, and patchouli, so it feels very floral and also woodsy and is a great scent to wind down with.

GLASS LADDER & CO. Katherine Tech Organizer Roll - Retail Value $35.00

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose between this item, a Stojo Collapsable Cup, or Maji Sports Exercise Bands.

Again, while I love the functionality of this item, I was less crazy about the pleather. I did really like the overall size, and how many loops and pockets were inside though. I am taking a road trip to Tennessee next month, and this is going to be perfect for keeping all my smaller cords and random tech things like my Apple pencil close by.

PROVINCE APOTHECARY Regenerating Exfoliator + Resurfacing Mask, 60 g - Retail Value $36.00

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this item OR PUR Lit Mist Spray OR a Three Ships Lip Kit.

As someone who loves to mask, I was excited to see this in my box. I was equally pleased with the simple and lovely ingredient list: oat flour, lentil flour, lavender flower, flaxseed, and green tea leaf. It smells creamy and very lavender floral, and you can use it in a few different ways. Add water or use yogurt for more of a deeply moisturizing experience. You can also add a few drops of your favorite facial oil to really take it over the top! Leave it on then rinse off as a moisturizing treat or manually massage it in smaller circles for physical exfoliation. I found this mask was a dream to wear because it was soothing to my skin and smelled heavenly.

Here is what the mask looks like mixed with water.

WYLD French Pink Clay Konjac Sponge - Retail Value $16.90

FYI: Annual subscribers can choose this item OR an Adesse New York Nail Duo.

I feel like a year or so ago I was getting a ton of these in boxes, but I haven't had one in quite some time. I love these little sponges because they are scrubby but incredibly gentle on my face. Their texture is especially great for skin that is sensitive, dry, or redness-prone. Simply add water and your favorite cleanser and scrub away! The pink clay inside this sponge adds an additional level of pore purification. Once you are done, squeeze it out and hang to dry. Easy!

Art Print

And in every box, CAUSEBOX includes a postcard print you can mail or frame. This one features the work of Charlotte Molas.

Verdict: This season's CAUSEBOX was fun and had a lot of cool stuff, but I feel like my particular assortment was missing some sort of WOW factor that previous seasons have had. Granted, I do not customize my box. Everything is always a surprise! A lot of these items felt like items that might have come in different subscription boxes multiple times, and while that is mostly fine since CAUSEBOX always sends better versions anyways, it would have been nice to have one really unique addition that felt very, well, CAUSEBOX-y. That being said, I can't imagine any subscriber being disappointed by the quality and value inside this season. My favorite items were the spray, the mask, and the extra thoughtful battery pack and I have already hauled multiple wine bottles in my bag!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I love the Cause Boxes I have received. I get to choose the products since I am a subscriber! The products are high end and support various causes. If ever there is item(s) I don’t want. I bless someone else rather than complain. If it is not for you! It is not for you!

Cause Box definitely had some wonderful products. The biggest issue here is they stole from both vendors and subscribers. Paid for items never sent, vendors never paid and customer service not responding. Buyer beware. I can’t support a company that lies and cheats.

Super unhappy with my box that just arrived. The tote is too small to be of any use and the rest of the box is cooking and/or food storage products that I don’t want or will never use. Very disappointing and a total waste of money. Straight from my doorstep to the garbage…you are better off going somewhere else.

My favorite item in this box was the Nimbler Charger and I got it in my favorite color blue! I also liked the lip duo and the nail duo. The stojo cup is great to drink my cold coffee in the morning since it’s hotter in the summer. I was expecting the FEED tote to be a better quality but the blue one is super cute and I’ve already used it so many times. I love all the pockets. I think if you’re gonna sign up for Causebox you might as well go annual so you can pick what you want. I do love that I can skip the box if I don’t like the season and I can still buy anything I want on the market place.

Check out their insta- this sub is getting a new name and new features to be announced next week. Rumor is they’ll call it lovebox. They desperately neeed to make changes as they’re a wannabe fff and ship a whole season late. Time for them to refocus.

Reply ButtonReply

Sonia

That’s right! Just received an incomplete order that I had place back in February.

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

Yikes I hope the new name is not actually “Lovebox”. That sounds like a NSFW sub box lol.

If I had to guess, they will allow seasonal subscribers to select at least 1 item so as to compete with FFF. I can also see them incorporating more conventionally made items that come with a corporate donation. The recent blender seemed off brand but they may be able to go with a similar product in the future under the guise of a charitable company.

Hopefully they are leaning more into sustainable products and artisan crafts/jewelry (mostly because that’s what I want).

Victoria

Really hoping they don’t go with Lovebox… excited for whatever the new perks are for members, though!

I just re-signed up for an annual membership this week; amazing deal of getting the first box for free; so it was $160 total cost. My first box will have the Feed Bag, Swell Water bottle, It Works Spray and the Low Waste Super Bundle… All things I wanted.

I’m not too concerned with shipping delays. As someone who works in Supply Chain Management; I know the issues they are going through with port delays, weather and other countries being shut down. All industries feel it. It will get better though.

Christina

Annual subscriber and I just got my Spring box today! LOL wow…

If the past is any indication, the Summer spoilers should start in the next week or two. Causebox had got to hire some better logistics and supply management people.

I just cancelled. I want to eliminate annoyance and stuff, not accumulate more. I may do an intro box when there’s something I really like, but the irritation of wondering if they might feel like answering an email or sending a box isn’t worth it. It will be awhile until my subscriptions both end, but just hitting the button to cancel helped me feel better.

Hate the vegan leather. Call it what it is, plastic – and stiff plastic with zero give at that. I don’t understand the appeal of this stuff. Leather items, while not “vegan” last for years. I have purses I’ve had for 20+ years that only get better with age. This item while in theory would be great, in actuality will end up in a landfill sooner than later. So yeah, no animals were harmed but yeah…

Cause box charged my credit card for the add ons February 27th and here it is April 23rd almost 2 months later there is no word when my order will even be mailed out! What kind of business does this and gets away with it?
I find this fraudulent. Also what kind of company does not have any way to directly communicate with them? You can not call them. You cannot email them. Terrible business practices! I don’t think I’ll be ordering from this company again. .

Kasey

That is actually illegal. Boxycharm did the same thing to me and I stated the law statue to them and they sent it the very next day. I believe the law is 60 days but you do have to send written notice. If they don’t respond file with BBB and it should be resolved.

Tracy

Marmie, You forgot about the part where they sent out an email, with a mere 5 day notice, that they were billing us Annual Subscribers, a few days earlier than March 1st.

I don’t feel respected by Causebox. Does anyone? I purchased $115 in Add-ones, in late Feb. I JUST received them today. Sat Apr 24th. Yet, where’s my box? Hmmm.

My subscription said, “cancelled” in my account. So … I wrote & asked them if someone could please look into it as they just got paid for an entire year of boxes ahead of time. Instead, they wrote me back the most senseless email with a scolding about their policies on canceling. I’m not kidding. I swear … the lights are on but no one’s home over there.

Deb

I too ordered $100+ in add-ons – on Feb 26. Got excited about 10 days ago when they “shipped” but here I am on 4/26 with delivery date “pending”

Ele

FedEx received a tracking number on March 25th. A MONTH AGO. But Causebox has zero information on when I can expect to receive my box. Their canned customer service response is “we appreciate your patience”. I have cancelled my annual membership and have set a reminder to open a BBB dispute if I haven’t received my spring box by the first day of summer. Something I purchased to add a little joy to my life should not be this frustrating. I’m sure there are other companies who would love to have my money.

Did anyone get the nail products yet?

Still waiting for mine to ship. I customized h to w box so long ago that I’m not even sure what’s coming in it. I think I’m up for renewal soon, and I doubt I will. It feels like there is a lot of hype leading up to customization, then nothing.

Laura

Still waiting for mine to ship. Super frustrating.

I love the postcard in this box. I always collect them each quarter to send to a sick family member. I figure they are bigger and less likely to get lost in the mail.

Reply ButtonReply

I ordered this box for the tote and I’m disappointed. First, it’s super small. It looks great on a petite person but if you’re not super tiny it’s awkward looking. And I would expect a shopping tote to be able to hold a little more. The handles look very cheap. They are still wrinkled even though my bag has been hanging on a hook for about a week. They definitely feel and look more like plastic than pleather or vegan leather. If you are mainly interested in the tote I wouldn’t recommend subscribing for this box.

Megan, your night time routine sounds amazing! I think if I did what you described, I would seriously be super Zen.

If Will works for a famous shipper, then he must be Doug and you Carrie 😋 Man, I love that show (King of Queens if anyone is wondering lol.)

Love the tote picture, too. I like the way you think, Megan!! 🥂

I love that postcard art. I almost want to subscribe just so I can get that. I’m plus sized with dark hair, nice to see a piece of art that looks a bit like me.

Kristin

Send me your info and when I receive my box, I will put this in an envelope and send it to you.

Reply ButtonReply

MaryBeth

Oh my goodness, Kristin. Thank you! How can I send you my info?

Wendy

My add-on’s came two weeks ago but so far no shipping info for my box. I’ve had cause box for a couple of years and am always happy with my box but it seems to be shipping later and later. It can’t just be the pandemic because I know someone who has had her box for a few weeks. Fingers crossed it ships soon

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

I’m an annual subscriber and my box has only just shipped today. My winter box arrived in March, which was frustrating. But they were VERY VERY CLEAR that the spring box would be shipping all of April and into May. Like, super clear, overkill kind of clear. Like what I’m doing right here. So I don’t really understand the heavy whining from people that their box hasn’t arrived yet. My day job and my night job both heavily rely on shipping and logistics – and folks the world is moving slowly right now. Backups are everywhere. Causebox has been really upfront about the spring box moving slow, so get over it. These boxes are fun but we don’t really *need* them, and everyone knows the market orders always take nine years to ship, so don’t use them for last minute gifts. ::steps off soapbox::

Reply ButtonReply

Iz

Actually, the timeline was end of April, not into May (unless you’re referring to the intro/welcome box as well). With That being said, it’s still April so we shall wait.

Reply ButtonReply

Sarah

No, I meant the regular Spring box; the email I received said through April and into early May.

Kathy S

Annual still awaiting shipment also with end of April quickly approaching.

Reply ButtonReply

Pilar

Patiently waiting for my box…..

Reply ButtonReply

Izzie

Same…

Seems like those of us who ordered the nail duo are still waiting. Their shipping is terrible and they are uncommunicative about what is going on. I’m waiting almost 2 months for a replacement item from previous market order. The quality of items is pretty poor.

Reply ButtonReply

Christina

Selected the nail duo as well and mine hasn’t shipped either. At least I got my market items 🤷‍♀️

Reply ButtonReply

Ele

Same. Received my market order, no Spring box. And I chose the nail set.

Victoria

Little correction that I’m not sure matters any more: annual members canNOT choose the color of the portable charger, but they can choose between the charger vs the other category 2 options 🙂 I wish we could’ve picked, I would’ve gone with the blue!

Thank you for this! <3

Hi I am new to this subscription. I received my box but I bought some items in there marketplace back in February and have not received them. Are they always this late?

Reply ButtonReply

Victoria

Unfortunately yes. Causebox ships sub boxes slowly, but their marketplace shipping is painfully slow.
