Lillypost February 2021 Review

Lillypost always sends us a set of Finnley the Fox stickers along with a little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "Love" and there are some sweet little ideas about how to show love in simple ways.

My Little World: Zoom by Jonathan Litton - Retail Value $7.99

My youngest, Benny, is our car/truck man so this little board book was right up his alley. We loved all of the different vehicles, the bright colors, and of course the cute little animals driving them. This rhyming tale had these animals racing against each other to get to the finish with a surprising result. While the story and illustrations were great for asking some educational questions for older toddlers (colors, counting, etc), the little circle cutouts make this a great book for babies to explore, too. I think it's a fun one that most younger kids will enjoy, although if you ask Benny, he'll tell you that the line from Monkey where he goes "toot, toot" is inappropriate, which gave us a giggle (my children are at the age where potty talk is hilarious to them, so we've been trying to teach them about appropriate uses!).

Pete the Cat and the Great Leprechaun Chase by James Dean - Retail Value $10.99 (found here for $5.99!)

While you can opt-out of receiving seasonal/holiday books, my kids really enjoy them so they were excited to see this fun book with a familiar and well-loved character. In this book, Pete is trying to help his friends catch the leprechaun to gain some luck. After some fun rhyming taunting from the leprechaun after Pete fails to catch him, the leprechaun finally helps him realize that Pete is all the luck his friends need. This was a cute, exciting story with lots of bright illustrations and even better, it included a fold-out poster, a page of stickers, and two pages of little St. Patrick's Day cards that they can give out to friends. While this isn't the type of book we'd like to receive every month, it was a fun and festive change!

The One-Stop Story Shop by Tracey Corderoy - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $14.49)

This story was a really fun one! We encounter a knight who discovers that the dragon he is supposed to be fighting has gone on vacation so he visits the One-Stop Story Shop in search of a new villain. While there, the owner has some interesting suggestions and while at first the Knight seems quite put off by them, in the end, he ends up going on his greatest adventure yet! This was silly, unpredictable, and brought together sea creatures and outer space and other fun things you wouldn't normally see together in a story. The absurdity of it is what made this book an easy winner for us!

Verdict: What a great balance in this month's Lillypost curation! The Zoom book was great for my youngest son who has already asked to read it several times and Pete the Cat was a fun, festive pick with lots of great extras that my kids were excited about. Our last book was super creative and one that I'm sure we will enjoy many readings of! Somehow this subscription always manages to get it right! The total retail value of our books comes to $36.97 which is pretty good for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box. If we take into account the sales prices, we are a little low at $28.47, but still coming out ahead.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the March box, although it is possible you may get these books in a future box!

Value Breakdown: At $24.90 ($19.95 per month + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here’s what you are paying approximately per item:

  • Zoom: $5.38
  • Pete the Cat: $7.40
  • The One-Stop Story Shop: $12.12

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
