Birchbox's Limited Edition Clean Beauty Finds Box Review

Here is the info sheet that arrived with the box.

Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser, 75 ml – Estimated Value $13 (buy the 150 ml version for $26)

I really love the greek yogurt probiotic face mask from Korres, so I was happy to try this creamy cleanser and see how my skin liked it. The star ingredient here is the nutrient-packed Greek yogurt, and it is also made with honeysuckle extract and seawater. This cleanser did the job for me – it removed the dirt from the day from my face, and it gave me a deep clean. While this wasn’t stripping on my skin, I will say that I expected it to be more hydrating than it was.

Jane Iredale BeautyPrep™ Hyaluronic Serum, 17 ml – Retail Value $52

Holy price, batman- this stuff is expensive for being so small. This serum has a really interesting ingredients list, featuring unique items like sea lettuce and Japanese wireweed extract, along with hyaluronic acid and algae extract. This serum is lightweight and absorbed quickly, and it helped my skin feel hydrated and smooth. I liked it, but I didn’t think it was remarkable enough to justify the high cost and small product size.

Glow Recipe Pink Juice Oil-Free Moisturizer, 60 ml – Retail Value $39

I have used this before, and I am stoked to have a full-size back in my arsenal. Think of this as a super lightweight moisturizer- on those hot summer days when I don’t want anything heavy on my skin I love using this watermelon-scented gel. If you have dry skin, this will also work as a serum layered under an oil or heavier cream! This formula features watermelon extract, hyaluronic acid, and antioxidants, and my sensitive skin really enjoys it.

Merinaturals Natural Body Wash in Reef, 10 oz – Retail Value $14.95

The "Reef” fragrance of this body wash is a blend of white tea and bergamot, and it is my favorite aspect of this product. It has been a while since I’ve used a body care item with such a distinct white tea fragrance, and it was really comforting to me. The body wash is made with aloe juice, glycerin, and chamomile, and it didn’t dry out my skin at all after using. The pump feature is handy, too. This has been getting regular use since I received it even though I have a million open body products.

Myro Natural Deodorant Starter Pack in Chill Wave, 2 oz – Retail Value $11.99

I am not on the natural deodorant train, but my boyfriend is and he is a willing test subject. This is a plant-based deodorant made with aloe, probiotics, and sage, and it is made without aluminum, parabens, baking soda, or gluten. This didn’t irritate his underarms and the cucumber + jasmine scent was really nice (the scent also allegedly has mint, but my nose didn’t pick up on that). The aesthetically pleasing jade green packaging on this deodorant is also refillable and dishwasher-safe.

MILK Makeup KUSH High Volumizing Mascara, 10 ml – Retail Value $25

I was so disappointed in this mascara. I have tried samples of this through the Sephora Favorites Mascara sets, and what kept me from redeeming my voucher for the full-size mascara is that it smeared and smudged easily on my face. Now that I have the full-size mascara here, I can tell you that it is still just as smeary but the wand on the full-size is bigger, to the point it was too big to reach all of my lashes and define them the way I like. This mascara is officially not for me, but I do like the packaging, it's large and has a nice weight in my hand compared to standard mascara packaging.

Tarte SEA Quench Lip Rescue Balm in Rose, 0.10 oz – Retail Value $19

I didn’t look too closely and thought this was lipstick instead of a lip balm- so I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is, in fact, very balmy and lovely. It felt nourishing on my lips without being heavy, and the rose color gave a very slight tint and a bit of shine that I thought looked really nice. This lip balm is formulated with jojoba seed oil, coconut oil, vitamin E, and marine plants (just to name a few), and it is formulated without ingredients like parabens, mineral oil, gluten, and phthalates.

Here I am wearing the Milk mascara and Tarte lip balm. If you look closely you can see the mascara already on my cheek from only a few minutes of wear!

R + Co. Neon Lights Dry Oil Spray, 4 oz – Retail Value $29

I usually enjoy the products I try from R+Co, and yet I was still surprised by how much I liked this dry oil spray.  I tried it out by doing just a quick spritz on day-old curls, and it immediately made my hair feel smoother and softer. It added a touch of moisture to my curls while still being lightweight, and this is a product I will be able to use frequently with my hair type and it should make styling it a bit easier. Two thumbs up from me!

Verdict:

To Wrap Up: I knew when I saw the spoilers for this box that it would be a win, but I like it even more now that I have been able to try the products out. Sure, the Milk mascara wasn’t a win for me, but the Tarte lip balm, Glow Recipe moisturizer, and R+Co dry oil spray more than make up for that singular dud. Value-wise, everything in this box adds up to $203.94, which is just a hair shy of the promised value of $208 and great for the $59 box cost. If you want to get an even better deal and don't mind the risk that comes with waiting, every few months Birchbox will offer 20-30% off their entire website.

I really enjoyed this box. I hadn’t been excited by a LE box from Birchbox in a long time. My only complaint is that the physical box got messed up in transport.

The only thing I’m having problems with is that I can’t get the body wash to open up so I can actually push down on the top. I’ve just been unscrewing the whole lid to get to the product. Makes me feel like a baby, but oh well.

The title says “+Coupon”… where? It also links to a totally different box

It’s tough for me to believe the clean beauty tags and have contacted Birchbox about it. Half the products have Fragrance/Parfum as an ingredient, which is absolutely not a clean ingredient. The kit is worth it despite this, but good luck even opening the Myro deodorant – joke of a product.

Mine just twists off now, but I remember it being a struggle the first time. Try wiggling it a bit and just twisting it off.

Yeah, opening that Myro was a struggle. I actually googled how to open Myro deodorant. I saw some other postings of people struggling. After I did open it i am actually kind of liking it.

I’d love to hear how you managed to open yours. They sent me a replacement and I still can’t open it!

I got that Myro deodorant from Target and it’s awful. I use aluminum-free deodorant and it’s definitely not one I would recommend. It was also incredibly messy and melted super easily.

I had the exact same experience with Myro, melted and fell apart and had to throw it away.

I’m so excited to dig into this box, I ordered it and received it quickly, but we are in the middle of a bathroom overhaul so it’s still packaged up nicely.

I can’t wait for you to open it up and enjoy it! Which product do you want to try first?

The Body wash for sure! it goes with my fancy new tile shower! 😛

How is the deodorant a starter pack?

Reply ButtonReply

Charlotte

The packaging is refillable – you can buy cartridges to replace the product, while reusing the container.

Tiffany

The green plastic container + the deodorant is the started pack. You can purchase the containers and the product separately. Once you have the container, you can purchase refills of the deodorant.

I enjoyed this box, especially the Tarte lip balm. It’s the best lip product I’ve tried in a long time. Also enjoyed the watermelon moisturizer and body wash. Great curation!

I too was pleasantly surprised by the tarte lip balm!

Sea lettuce and Japanese wireweed extract? Now I have heard it all 😂

I thought I had seen it all but at least once a month I am usually surprised by an ingredient featured in a skincare product. At least it keeps things interesting!
