Fortune Cookie Soap “Thank You For Being a Friend” January 2021 Review

Here is the info sheet for this month's box.

Every box comes packaged with a themed sticker that always makes me smile.

FCS I Love You, Pussycat Cuticle Oil

I had to laugh when I saw this was included in the box- I can’t remember the last time FCS included a cuticle oil, but I can tell you in the past month I created my own cuticle using a mini perfume oil from FCS and a facial oil I didn’t like for my face. This oil has scent notes of vanilla, sweet caramel, and southern peaches and plums, and while it is a bit strong at first application the scent does fade away nicely. This cute mini nail polish bottle made it super easy to just brush on the oil and go about my day, which I appreciate. Cuticle oils make a huge difference in the overall health of my nails, so I’m happy to have more of them.

FCS Southern Belle Rejuvenating Facial Oil

I have mixed feelings about this facial oil- mainly because the ingredients are incredibly hard to read on the bottle, and I would have appreciated an insert or more details on the ingredients before I put it on my sensitive skin. I really don’t love intentionally fragranced skincare products, but this one, thankfully, wasn’t too strong. The scent is a mix of mango lemonade with pineapple and a hint of warm summer wood, and the few drops I applied to my skin absorbed in really quickly without feeling heavy.

FCS Back In St. Olaf... Carpet Deodorizer

This small jar of carpet deodorizer is an absolute delight- I find it incredibly cute. The scent is a mix of peonies and elderflower with a touch of citrus, and this can be used on surfaces like carpet, rugs, and car interiors before vacuuming. This is a very flowery scent that I enjoyed in my living space, and I felt like it helped to freshen up my small apartment.

FCS Not Now, Ma! Restorative Hair Mask

I absolutely love the FCS deep conditioner formula, so I had to do a double-take before I realized this is actually a different product. This hair mask is made with castor oil and panthenol while the deep conditioner features aloe, argan oil, and wheat protein. The hair mask has a really nourishing formula that I enjoyed using in my hair, and the scent was a pleasant mix of lemongrass, bergamot, and avocado.

The Verdict: Before anyone in the comments comes for me, I’ll come right out and admit I have no idea what the theme “Thank You For Being A Friend” is referencing. Now that that is out of the way, I really appreciate how this box featured items that I haven’t seen in the monthly box in the while- in last month's review I talked about how some of the items felt really repetitive even though the scents were changing. This is one of my favorite under-$20 subscription boxes I have reviewed, and if you’re a fan of small-batch body care and skin care products I recommend it (they do occasionally include products for the home like the carpet deodorizer sent this month, but that is an exception to the norm).

To Wrap Up:

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

Lol,

I got the theme right away! Which I think tells my age. I didn’t watch Golden Girls until it went into syndication. It was funny!

After syndication…oh my, I saw the original airings. I feel even older! Hey, can you point me towards a sub box for “mature” ladies? Thx in advance 😉

I loved the fragrances but I don’t see me using any of these products. I have mixed feelings about this month.

“Back in St Olaf”…. is about as well known as “when I was at band camp”

I find FCS facial oils too heavily fragrant for my face, but I love applying them to my arms and legs right after the shower. I’ve never had such soft winter skin! This is one sub box that I can’t imagine giving up. Fun products every month!

I have 2 facial oils just sitting, thanks for this idea. I was just thinking maybe I should try them on my hands.

I was so bummed to get a large glass vial of “Witches Wart” facial oil in my FCS Halloween box, knowing it would be worthless for my complexion. It really has been a game changer when used on my damp limbs. No more rough elbows or knees. I prefer it to their whipped cream lotion and it’s almost as nice as the body frosting. 🙂

I’m a body oil addict, and I am excited to use these after my showers!

Just Google “thank you for being a friend” and I have to believe Golden Girls will show up.

For all those who have never watched, it is a great comedy that I used to watch with my grandparents back in the 80s. I’ll still watch it occasionally (I’ve seen every episode a few times,) because the comedy is so great and on point. There is a reason Betty White is so loved by many 💕

This was my favorite box of the 3 months that I received. I wasn’t too sure about the ingredients in the facial oil either and ended up using it on my body by mixing it with an unscented lotion. Thanks for the review!

Thank you for an awesome sentence that will come back to me now every time I see something with Bea Arthur!

Don’t feel bad, I don’t get the majority of the references for this box, although I do love The Golden Girls.

Oh, Jessica! 😱😱😱😱

Golden Girls!! Wasn’t my favorite box but but I’m sure I’ll get around to using everything eventually (I have a backlog of facial and cuticle oil) – hopefully I won’t need the carpet deodorizer soon but I do have a brand new cream shag carpet and two pets so a disaster is inevitable

Sarah

You can also use the deodorizer in shoes!

Jennifer

I have wood floors so I sprinkle the deodorizer in the bottom of our trash can.

Rita

Oh, good idea. Tonight I’ll be deodorizing my sneaks.

Jody

I had no idea the theme either. I have never watched that show.

You really must add to your bucket list “Visit Mount Losenbaden and Google a recipe for flugelkaka.”
