Quirky Crate December 2020 Review

Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features the dynamic duo, Jen Koehl and Chris Uphues, the couple that created Beautiful Days. Chris and Jen work together to create their colorful products ranging from stickers to journals. This info card gives you some insight into them and their background as well as some social media info.

On the flip side of the card, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month's theme is "Glitter and Glam".

Time to get quirky!

Bedazzled Socks - Retail Value $12.00

These socks are much different than any other pair from Quirky Crate, and they are fabulous! So warm and cozy, too! The length is perfect, and I like how tight they are from the ankle up. I can't stand when my socks sag, and luckily, I know I won't have any issues with these falling down.

Did I mention they are bedazzled? These socks make me want to pull out the old Bedazzler and bless more accessories with rainbow bling, but for now, I will just enjoy these.

Beautiful Days Notebook - Retail Value $8.00

I am always happy to see stationary in my sub boxes. This little notebook is perfect for inspo on the go. I always have one handy, and even though I prefer my notebooks with lined paper, this will be less restrictive for my more creative notes and reminders. This month's featured artist, Beautiful Days, designed this little pad.

Lipstick Purse - Listed Value $38.00

Quirky Crate, this is your best bag, yet; I absolutely love this ultra-glamorous bag! This lipstick bullet is perfection; the design is simple, but I think that is what I like about it. It is actually one of my favorite lip colors to wear, and it (the purse and/or lipstick color!) could really glam up any outfit. This month's handbag comes with straps that are a little different, and I definitely like these more than just the usual chain; it gives the purse a more punk, edgy look and doesn't add as much weight to the bag.

Panda Cooling Eye Pads - Listed Value $7.00

I have a few pairs of eye cooling pads, but none of them are this cute. I am disappointed to report that these have actually met their expiration in 2019. When I saw the date on the packaging I rolled my eyes, "how could these possibly expire?", then I reached my fingers into the packaging and recoiled when my fingers came out sticky. Maybe the plastic on the eye pads deteriorates after a certain amount of time, but these are definitely unusable. I reached out to Quirky Crate's customer service; they promptly sent out the replacement item below.

NPW Mermaid Glitter Shell Cooling Eye Pads – Retail Value $12.95 (currently sold out)

The eye pads above were just an oversight and were immediately replaced with these little cuties. I love keeping eye pads in the fridge to rectify late nights and early mornings. After a few minutes of relaxing with these on, my eyes are instantly depuffed and look much better than before.

Glitter Phone Ring - Retail Value $10.00

This cute little heart is handy! It enables me to text more easily with one hand, and the ring turns 360 degrees so I can prop up my phone. I've been looking for an accessory that sticks to my Otterbox phone case, and this may be a keeper! The subtle sparkle would match pretty much any phone or phone case, too.

Disco Ball Enamel Pin - Listed Value $10.00

I am 100% a disco queen, so naturally, I adore this pin. There is no denying the glitz of the 70's disco era, so what a perfect pin for this month's theme of Glitter and Glam. Iridescent sparkle and colorful hearts adorn the front disco ball, and the back requires two pin backs to keep this rather large pin in place. New Years' is quickly approaching, and this will make an amazing accessory at my NYE jammy party in my living room.

Veil Beanie - Listed Value $18.00

I was a little confused, admittedly maybe I still am, about the fit of this hat. I have selfies where the veil is pulled the whole way down past my chin, but I think the pic above is about where it should be. The overall design is very confusing, and when I wear it, I feel like a beekeeper. The veil wraps all around your head, but it just doesn't fall quite right. The beanie is soft and very warm, but I don't think I will be getting much wear out of it.

The Verdict: I really loved mostly all of December's Quirky Crate shipment. I admit I'm totally drawn to bling, so the items with sparkle were my favorites, but I wasn't impressed with the beanie selection or the expired eye pads. The total value of this box adds up to $103, over double the $36.95 + $8.50 shipping subscription cost. Quirky Crate brings out the rainbow-loving, flair-hoarding, accessory-needing nerd in me every month, and I 100% embrace that. It is a fun, treat-yo'self type of subscription, which makes it worth every penny to me.

To Wrap Up:

I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

I guess not for me since I can’t wear socks with tight ankles.

I can’t believe people actually waste their money on this sub.

This month was horrible for Quirky Crate, those expired eye pads was Shamful! Refund ASAP!

Yeah no. The purse, beanie hair net thing, expired eye pads, and $8 notepad are just a huge no. The socks and pin I could go for. The phone ring I’m still trying to figure out.

Not the best month but hopefully next month’s will be better.

One of my favourite games to play with subs like this is to try to find the items on Alibaba/AliExpress.

The lipstick purse is $4.70-$5.80 (depending on number of units ordered; minimum order is 5 at $5.80 per unit.)

The veiled beanie is $3.90-$8.90 (same deal; minimum order is 10).

Gotta love those inflated values!

I was so disappointed with this months box. The first time I have ever wished I didn’t get a box. The purse and socks are cute so they had value. The notepad wasn’t dollar store value and I have bought nicer ones at the dollar store. The eye pads were so expired. If you peeled off the 2019 expiration sticker there was a 2018 expiration date on the package. The beanie was stupid. I mean cheapo stupid. Maybe a really cool goth could make it work?
I usually have 1 or 2 items that I give away but this time I only kept the socks. No one wanted the net beanie and no one wanted expired eye pads. I didnt reach out to customer service. I was sick most of xmas time. I feel really let down by this mess.

I hate when I am just not jiving with a sub. I didn’t notice the other expiration on the eye pads, and I am still pretty shocked that eye pads could even expire?! I am glad I’m not the only one with mixed feelings on that beanie, either! Hopefully next month will be a better fit 🙂

Quirky is still one of my favourite subs. I was just surprised with how little I liked this month. It just felt cheap. Would anyone wear a beanie with a piece of netting tacked to it? The notepad was just dollar store level. Outdated eye masks. 3 useless items is a lot.
I should have contacted customer service. They have an amazing customer service.
I just put everything back in the box and wrote the month off as not for me. They can’t all be winners. I just couldnt even get any nieces to take any items either.

Hi Hallie! Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention. We are so sorry to hear that you were sick over the holidays, and that your eye pads were expired 😔 We would definitely recommend reaching out to Quirky Crate to see if they can send a new cooling eye pad set: [email protected]

That beanie certainly is quirky!

I’ve been following these reviews since MSA started reviewing them and I have admired every single purse they have sent out.

Somewhere out there, some people have the whole set and I am quite envious! 😁

Omg me too! I would love a $10 purse only box!! Anybody out there listening? Lol

Me too!! I absolutely dream that one day they’ll start offering a $10 purse-only sub. They’re all so great!

On the second set of cooling eye pads that they sent out, I notice in the picture that they took off the expiration date sticker.
