Ellie Women's Fitness Clothing "Posies in Paris" December 2020 Review

At the beginning of each month, Ellie releases new collections. You can choose which one you want or skip that month if you don't want any of them and you won't be charged.

My invoice arrived inside of this shiny rose gold envelope.

Cassie Hoodie by Jessica Simpson in Heather Goblin, Size L - Retail Value $60.00

I couldn't resist the huge, bright flowers in the Ellie collection this month and I loved that it came with a hoodie and that the pants had pockets. This is listed as a cropped hoodie, but I am happy that it doesn't actually seem like a typical cropped length top on me (it's very slight) and instead it fit me comfortably. I love the heathered look and the different textures on the hood and upper part of the hoodie. It's stretchy and not too thick which makes it a great workout option.

Tummy Control Legging by Jessica Simpson in Zephyr Moda Floral - Retail Value $60.00, Size L

These pocket leggings are soft and have a good amount of stretch to them which I'm thankful for since my hips seem to be expanding again. As for the tummy control, I think they worked pretty well and there is a mesh detail at the waistband that I think will help keep them up while moving around. The length was perfect on these, too. I couldn't find these exact leggings but they have a few solid colors here, although those are ankle leggings while these aren't listed as such.

Honey Tank by Jessica Simpson in Zephyr Moda Floral, Size L - Retail Value $40.00

This tank top is just as soft as the leggings and it actually fit me a lot more loosely than I expected. While it is listed as being supportive, there are no cups or any other layers inside so I would not be able to work out in this without a bra underneath. Fortunately, the looser fit meant a sports bra fit underneath comfortably. I love the criss-cross detail at the back and all of the beautiful details in the flowers that match the pants.

Verdict: I usually end up with some items from Marike each month after choosing my Ellie collection so this month I was a bit nervous about trying a new brand. I've never tried Jessica Simpson's activewear before, but I was pleasantly surprised with how stretchy, soft and flattering these pieces were. I'm especially pleased with the value this month since two of these pieces retail for more than I paid for the entire box this month!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You'll be selecting from the current month's selections, which may include this collection. Check out our latest spoilers here! If you are a subscriber, you can pick up past collections (if they are available) in the shop.

Value Breakdown: The three-item box costs $44.95. That means that the average cost per item is $14.98.

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I received this set. My fave is the hoodie so soft. I sized up to a large and it fits great! Pants are soft and beautiful floral pattern and love the pockets. I thought top was a bra but it’s just a tank. Too matchy to wear together.
Overall love this set.

I’ve been tempted by this set, but I never pulled the trigger due to the cropped length on the tops. Seeing them on you is making me reconsider.

Loving this set!

Do they offer petite options? I’m 5’1″ if I stand up very straight, so regular length leggings and pants won’t work for me.

Thank you!

I am 5ft even and so far none of the leggings have been too long for me. They seem to all be the 7/8s length or cropped. The Jessica Simpson one especially fit me well.

Just curious – which Jessica Simpson ones? The tie dye capris from Cast the Dye or the black with leopard stripe from Urban Instinct?

Jodi

As the other comments said, there is no true petite option, but there is often (almost always) a capri length choice. There have been quite a few 22″ options since I started earlier this year, and even a couple shorter ones than that. Malibu Moment from last month has 20.5″ capris, for example. It looks like it’s not available for new members this month, but when I log in as a current member, I can actually choose it as my selection for January, or purchase it as an additional collection. You can see it here:
https://www.ellie.com/products/malibu-moment-one-time-purchase
Also, I noticed the waistband on those capris is 3.5″ so it’s not quite as high as the 4″, which is by far the most common width in Ellie sets. Since you are petite maybe that 3.5″ would be great for you, too! I have also seen some 5″ and even a super-high-rise 6.5″ waistband (on the Guiding Light leggings) which would be too high up on me to be comfortable, personally:
https://www.ellie.com/products/guiding-light-one-time-purchase

Sometimes the rise measurement (crotch to top of waistband) is listed in the description too, which is super helpful – I wish that measurement was included on every set, but it’s hit or miss.

Also worth mentioning that the Cast the Dye set from Jessica Simpson in October was listed as having 22″ capris, but they seemed shorter when I got them so I measured the inseam, and they are actually 18″ – which I personally like, because I already have a bunch of 22″ capris that really hit me more mid-calf, and these are great for a true capri pair. Here it is if you want to check it out: https://www.ellie.com/products/cast-the-dye-one-time-purchase?variant=32012400197690

The 22″ capris might be a really good length for you – I have seen petite girls mention in some reviews that they work well as more of a full length legging for them, maybe not super long all the way to the ankle bone (like 27″ would be on average height gals), but as a good 7/8 length legging (like 25″ tends to be on average height gals). It also depends on whether you have a longer torso and short legs, or if you have a short torso and average or longer legs.

Anytime I see 22″ capris in a set, I look closely at the model to see if she is a taller or shorter gal and notice where they hit her. Also, the awesome thing about Ellie is that returns and size exchanges are totally free! So order any set you want to try, and if the length isn’t right for you, you can always just exchange it. You can either get a whole different set, or do a size exchange for the item(s) that don’t fit you.

The more recent sets I have seen that include 22″ capris are:
Bayou Babe – October, November 2020
Wild Instinct – July, August, September, October, November 2020
Laguna Getaway – July, August, September, October 2020
Bootcamp Beauty – July 2020
Hibiscus Love – July 2020
Fresh Tone – June 2020 *note, I have this set in Large (bra and bottoms only, no tank) and I am selling it, if you are interested, let me know and we can connect!
Mineral Love – June 2020
Coastal Cool – June 2020
Emerald Tide – June 2020
Pinky Swear – May, July 2020
Citrus Kick – May 2020
Calypso – May 2020
Kaleidoscope – April 2020
Glow Getter – April 2020
Wave Runner – March 2020
Bahama Babe – March, April, May 2020

(Even though most of the past ones aren’t available anymore, I’ve found if you google “Ellie” + (collection name) it will pop up and you may even be able to order it) 😉

I hope this is helpful! I have done a lot of “research” since I discovered Ellie because I love it so much, and have even tracked down some older sets. Give it a try and see what length bottoms you like best. You can always cancel anytime, or skip the month if there aren’t any options you like. I would provide my referral code here but we’re on Brandi’s MSA page and you should definitely use her link to give her the referral credit 🙂

Thank you so much!!!! You’ve been incredibly helpful. I’m starting slow and bought an outfit on sale plus the 30% off. Getting ready to take the dive soon on the subscription. Thanks and have a great day!!

Jodi

Camille – hoping you see this; there is no “reply” hyperlink under your comment so you probably didn’t check the “Notify me of follow-up comments by email” box when you posted yours…

My suggestion is to try a Medium top. I get Large bras and Medium tops myself; however, I get Large bras for the band size, not so much for the cups. And I wouldn’t call my waist small in comparison to my bust, but the Medium tops still fit well and Large tops would definitely be big on me.

Keep in mind this will vary depending on the brand of the bras and tops you choose though – I have mostly gotten Balance Collection and Marika, and some Jessica Simpson, but there are also Zobha, Eddie Bauer, and Ellie’s own brand as options, and now Wildfox Sweat, too, and I am not sure how those run in comparison to the others.

The great thing is, though, Ellie does free exchanges (and returns)! So if the Medium top doesn’t fit, you can request a size exchange for a Large. They’ll probably ship the replacement item right away (and they may or may not even ask for you to send the original back, for your first exchange, but shh, they don’t advertise that 😉 ).

Camille

Thanks for the helpful research! If I have a larger chest and and a smaller waist (definitely a large in the sports bra) should I still get a large top or a medium? Thanks!

dia

Thanks, ladies ❤️

They don’t offer petit options but they always have the inseam listed for the pants. They range from 23-27 inches. Most are 25 and 27.

Tiffany

Not that I’ve seen. They do offer capris sometimes, and customer service is pretty good. I think they have a decent return policy if you want to give them a try.

Such a pretty set! And it’s really helpful to know the hoodie isn’t a super short crop and to see it on you – I would definitely wear that length too. Thanks for this review!

Thank you for reviewing this outfit! I skipped last month but saw that this was an option again this month. I was hesitant initially but after your review – and how nice everything looks on you – I’m going to get it!
