Keto Krate December 2020 Review
I have to be honest: between working from home and the holidays being in full swing, I have sadly fallen off the wagon and enjoyed far too many Christmas cookies. Before all hope was lost though, I received my Keto Krate box to help me get back on track. Complete with a keto-friendly gingerbread recipe, this box is aimed to please! Scroll down to find out what kind of items we received this month.
The inclusion of this pamphlet makes me smile each and every month. Along with a comic, this guide is jam-packed with helpful information. This month we learned tips on how to order like a pro at Starbucks, we received a keto-friendly gingerbread recipe, and we received a spin-off of “The Night Before Christmas” poem specifically for keto folks! This month we didn’t get to read about real-life success stories, but I have a feeling that component will be brought back in January. As usual, we received coupon codes, links to the month’s product info in Krate Club, and tips on how to manage your subscription.
Heka Good Foods Chocolate Sea Salt Bar – Buy a 12 pack for $38.99
Fat 14g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10
I have enjoyed my fair share of keto bars, and I gotta say this chocolate sea salt version was delicious. The ingredients list includes almonds, allulose, whey protein isolate, soluble tapioca fiber, unsweetened chocolate, erythritol, cocoa powder (processed with alkalki), cocoa butter, natural flavors, sea salt, and sunflower lecithin. The bar is a bit greasy but really tasty! With a rich, deep chocolate flavor, and the perfect amount of nuts, my kids, who adore sugar to the max, thought that this bar was delish, as did I. The only drawback is the price… $3.25 a bar is quite steep, but would be worth it if it helped to keep me on track!
Nutty Gourmet Sea Salt Walnuts – Buy a pack of 3 for $14.99
Fat 17g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10
It’s no secret that I am obsessed with walnuts, pecans, hazelnuts, and basically any other variety of nut that exists. I’m not sure why I adore them so much, but I do and that is fantastic news for someone following the keto lifestyle. These fresh walnuts are exactly that: fresh! I have received some baking walnuts that are so stale they hardly even taste like a walnut anymore, but these were crunchy, fragrant, and sprinkled with the absolute perfect amount of finely ground sea salt for an irresistible flavor! My 5-year-old found these as addicting as I did, so they didn’t last long.
Peppermint Ice Chips Candy – Buy a 5.28 oz bag for $12.00
Fat 0g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: 10
What kind of December would it be without the joys of peppermint? Pre-keto, one of my favorite candies was a York mint, and these funny little ice chips brought some of that flavor back to me! These chips actually felt cold in my mouth and chewed easily for a delicious peppermint flavor that is sweetened with xylitol. There was no funky aftertaste, and my husband was hooked!
Munk Pack Sea Salt Dark Chocolate Keto Nut & Seed Bar – Buy a 12 pack for $24.99
Fat 12g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 10/10
So far this box has been fantastic! Continuing on, we received this sea salt, dark chocolate, keto nut, and seed bar that was more like candy than a plant-based granola bar! This bar seriously took a basic nutty protein bar and turned it into a dessert! Made with real ingredients, not only did I love this bar, but my kids and husband were obsessed as well. These are definitely going on my grocery list, although I will have to hide them in my secret stash so the kids don’t blow through them!
Pork King Good Dill Pickle Pork Rinds – Buy a 4 pack for $13.99
Fat 5g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: 5/10
A year or so into my keto journey I decided to give pork rinds a whirl, and although I was a little apprehensive, I found them to be a really good snack. I have tried a variety of flavors, and have even played around with dipping them into different sauces for a new spin. Dill pickle is a flavor I have tried in the past, and while I love dill pickles and I love pork rinds, I’m just not a fan of them together. I did try these, and while the initial flavor was decent (for a dill pickle rind) this particular brand was way too salty for me. I passed them onto my husband who is a dill pickle chip addict, and he scarfed a handful down talking about how much he enjoyed these… and then the salt hit him…
Ross Chocolate Mini’s – Buy an 8 pack for $39.99
Fat 9g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10
One of the flavors I have missed most on my keto journey is the taste of milk chocolate. There are lots of opportunities to enjoy dark chocolate in keto form, but I haven’t found many good milk chocolate options. That all changed with these, as these chocolate minis made the cut! They truly taste like milk chocolate and even fooled the kids. Sweetened with stevia, there is absolutely no bitter aftertaste, and the squares are a tasty treat the entire family can enjoy!
Keto Farms Butter Toffee Peanuts – Buy a 6 pack for $14.99
Fat 12g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10
Hellloooo butter toffee peanuts! I believe we had the obsession with nuts discussion earlier, so you can imagine my excitement when I pulled these delicious morsels from the box! Covered in a dusting of erythritol, monk fruit extract, and butter, these sweet peanuts are absolutely delicious. This bag was a perfectly-sized snack and helped me feel full and satisfied. Hank was also obsessed with these, and accidentally ate more than his share before I shot the photo!
Big John’s Original Beef Jerky – Buy a 1.75 oz bag of jerky for $4.99
Fat 1g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 1000/10
I gotta say, this box is killing it this month! If you have read my past reviews, you know that we are jerky maniacs around here. This beef jerky is 100% my favorite store-bought jerky to date, and I will absolutely be buying more. This hand-crafted jerky is cut into thin strips that are so tender and juicy it makes my mouth water just writing about it. Besides the texture, the flavor of real hickory absorbed into the meat is literally the best flavor ever. Please, please, please send more of this in future boxes!!!
The Cookie Department Keto Cake Walk Cookie – Buy a pack of 8 for $22.07
Fat 22g | Net Carbs 4g | Taste Score: 10/10
Finding a good keto cookie can be a challenge, as almond flour and coconut flour tend to create an extra cakey texture. This particular brand has been sent in the past, and I am 100% okay with that as it is a chewy cookie that tastes great. The packaging shows a sprinkle version, whereas the actual cookie doesn’t present with many sprinkles, which is kind of a bummer, but still tastes great. Yum!
Better Than Good Foods Keto Chocolate Krunch Bar – Buy a pack of 6 for $14.99
Fat 18g | Net Carbs 4g | Taste Score: 8/10
I am super excited that this box was packed with so many sweet treats, as it gives me great alternatives to all of the Christmas cookies we have laying around. This keto chocolate krunch bar has a deep chocolatey flavor that is more on the dark side but with crispies that spice up the texture a bit. I found it good, but a bit more bitter than I prefer. I will totally eat the entire bar but did like the milk chocolate minis we received this month quite a bit more.
Nush Raspberries and Cream Flavored Cake – Buy a pack of 6 for $17.94
Fat 16g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 4/10
Holy raspberries and cream! This flavored cake bar was definitely packed with raspberry and cream flavor, but not in the best way. I found this bar to be moist, but almost gritty, with a sweet yet interesting flavor. I didn’t care for the texture and was a little put off by the number of raspberry seeds in this cake. I have had other flavors of this cake in the past that I have enjoyed a lot more, so I think I will stick to those!
Pyure Organic Sugar-Free Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix – Buy a package for $9.99
Fat 6g | Net Carbs 5g
In past boxes, we have received large mixes to test out and I really enjoy that feature. This month we received this package of brownie mix made by Pyure. I have had good luck with this brand in the past, so I was excited to receive a version we haven’t yet purchased before. To create these brownies you will need an egg, oil, and water. I didn’t open the package because we have so many baked treats floating around our house at the moment that I wanted to save this for after the holidays.
Raw Rev Glo Creamy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt – Buy a 12 pack for $26.99
Fat 11g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 3/10
I love peanut butter, but in all honesty, I just did not care for this bar. Containing 15 grams of protein and made from a Raw Rev Superfood Blend (peanuts, pea protein, organic brown rice protein, raw organic hemp protein, raw organic virgin coconut oil, raw organic chia seeds, raw organic sprouted flax seeds), isomalto-oligosaccharides (prebiotic fiber from tapioca), sea salt, this bar tasted just like the ingredients listed… I could definitely taste a natural brown rice and pea protein flavor, and that’s not exactly what I am looking for in a bar. Great to pack as an emergency snack for a hike, but I just wasn’t a fan.
The Verdict: I love Keto Krate because it has helped me discover most of my favorite low carb treats! Because I have been working from home and my entire schedule has been upended due to the pandemic, I have really struggled to stay on track, but am working at getting back on the wagon with the help of this box! This month was fantastic, as I enjoyed most of the treats (as did my non-keto family) which is an added bonus. The point of this box is for me to have the ability to try new brands, flavors, and snacks without the commitment of purchasing a large number of expensive treats that aren’t a guaranteed love. I look forward to this box every month, and always find a new brand or flavor that I might not have purchased on my own. I can’t wait to see what I discover next month!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, no. If you subscribe today, your first box will be the January box.
COUPON: Save 25% off your first Krate. No coupon needed - just use this link.
Value Breakdown: The box costs $39.99 + free shipping which means that each of the 13 items in the box has an average cost of $3.07. I also want to share that on their website, it states the retail value of this month’s products is $50.53, but you would pay $41.46 in shipping costs for each product, plus you would have to spend $33.43 to get the discount code savings of minimum orders for each product, which would bring your total value to $125.42, so I think $39.99 is a pretty good price to test out different snacks and find new faves!
