Friends Box Fall 2020 Review

Each box comes with a card showing each of the items in the box.

How you doin’? Chenille Sweater

This sweater is amazing! I was genuinely surprised by the quality. It is Chenille, made of a tufted velvety cord or yarn, and so super soft. I'm normally not a huge fan of purple, but I really liked the way this looked on me and the fit was perfect. The 'How you doin' quote on it feels a bit silly, but as a big fan of the show, I totally love it. I can picture Rachel wearing a sweater like this with tights and a mini skort. I can't wait to rock this!

Couch Keychain

The most iconic couch around, and one that I would honestly love to have in my house! This keychain is a perfect replica of that couch and is super sturdy. The colors are bright and bold, which will help if I ever misplace my keys. My kids are obsessed with keychains so they were really excited to see this new one on my car key set. Such a fun statement for my otherwise boring set of keys.

Foldable Backpack

This backpack can be used at its full-size, or you can fold it down with a snap closure for easy storage. The drawstring closure at the opening of the backpack makes keeping all of your items safe inside easy and secure. This would be great to use for a packed lunch, snacks, or to take with you on a bike ride, or to the park. It is sleek and small, but still roomy enough to store a good amount of essentials inside. The Friends graphics on the front of the backpack are so cute! They look like little sketches and are iconic images from the show. I am constantly lugging toys around for my kids, either to the park or on our neighborhood walks, so I decided to give this to them to use as a toy carrier for each of our outings! The best part is that it fits my oldest son nicely so he can also wear it!

Central Perk Mug

I am one of those people that likes my coffee cups to match. However, my husband loves a good statement cup. So we have a nice mix of fun ones and my basic white cups. This is one that I can totally get behind! The coffee shop in Friends is such an important part of the show. Does anyone remember the flashback where Central Perk was a bar before becoming the coffee shop?! I love that it is solid black with the Central Perk logo, it feels sleek and cool. I can't wait to enjoy a cup of coffee out of this!

The One With A Chick and A Duck Salt & Pepper Shakers

The chick and the duck... probably the two best characters on the show that couldn't talk, haha! I love that the graphic of them looks like little sketches and that they have the Friends logo below each picture. The shakers also have a diner vibe that I really love. We currently have Simpson's salt and pepper shakers, but I might add these to that collection to display one of my favorite shows proudly!

Mini Dartboard with Magnetic Darts

This is such a cool item! Chandler and Joey always had a dartboard in their apartment, right outside of the kitchen, and Ross even has one in an apartment early on. The mini dartboard rolls up neatly into the case so you can take it with you if you want to bring to a friends house or on vacation, or a nice way to store it without having a giant dartboard out. The major plus is that the darts are magnetic! I decided to display this in my kid's playroom for them to use, never too early to teach them how to play darts right?!

Crew Socks

These socks are really great quality! They are thick and super soft, perfect for wearing with boots. I love that they are black with specks of colorful threads throughout. The Friends logo is in the perfect spot because you can either show it proudly or not have it show at all. I am always in need of new socks so these are going to get a ton of use this winter!

The Verdict: The Friends Box for Fall looked a bit different than previous boxes, but it still brought the fun! This box was filled with more products that have the Friends logo and different graphics or sayings on them, rather than what we've seen in past boxes with products that were specific to episodes of the show. If I'm being honest, I sort of missed having products that went with an episode. It sort of gave me a chance to reminisce about an episode or even got me to rewatch one or watch clips that always left me laughing. This month's box was still great, I think it was just lacking that "something special". The quality of each item was totally on par with what I've seen in past boxes, so it was good to see that didn't change! My favorite item this month was the sweater – the quality was beyond anything I would have expected from this box, and it feels on-trend. A few items are going to my kids because they really liked them, like the backpack and dartboard, while the coffee cup and salt and pepper shakers are finding new spots in my kitchen. I wasn't able to find retail values for these products, but with the monthly cost of $39.99, each of the 7 products has an average value of $5.71. While this wasn't my favorite month, I still loved the overall curation and you can't beat the quality!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Your next box will be Winter!

Value Breakdown: The box costs $39.99 a month, which means that each of the 7 exclusive Friends items in the box has an average cost of $5.71.

Seriously? I will never understand the popularity of Friends.

I agree with you all … I am a huge FRIENDS fanatic, but this subscription box is just weird to me. I know the reviews have said the quality is great, but judging from pics, the items look very junky and kinda basic. You can go to a variety of stores that sell pop culture themed items (Box Lunch, bookstores, even Target) and find similar stuff. I mean, I even have a V-neck shirt from T.J. Maxx or Ross that has the same pattern all over it that the backpack has. It’s super soft, subtle enough to wear to work under a cardigan, and it cost $8.

Overall, the items just seem kind of lame? I thought the oven mitt was weird at the time, but now I understand that things like that are better than just “here’s a coffee mug with the Central Perk logo on it.” I do think the S&P shakers are super cute, until I realized I could just buy plain shakers and probably paint the birds on them myself, using a stencil. Again, I just feel the quality/uniqueness is not there! :\

Thanks so much for your feedback! The uniqueness this month was not there, I agree with that. But I honestly find the quality to be really great in person, the pictures must not be doing it justice. I have found that I’ve used the items in this box more than in previous boxes.

I’m glad the quality is better in person and that this box is particularly useful! I just saw the newest spoilers for the next box, and they are pretty cute and practical!

This ended up being the box we got the most use out of, but that is only because my 11-year old daughter snatched up the sweater and backpack. I love the mug, and she thinks the salt n pepper shakers are cute, though they’re just sitting on the counter, empty. I was really disappointed to see the spoiler for the winter box, with yet another chick and duck reference. I was charged for my annual renewal, but they were kind enough to cancel and refund me. I also am kinda tired of the obvious references. I think the best one was the oven mitt, because I did have to go back to see that yes, Phoebe really was wearing a watermelon oven mitt!

I can totally agree with that! They should dig deeper into the early seasons or small things that people might not have noticed or remembered. I thought the dartboard did that this month, not everyone would remember that there was always a dartboard in the guy’s apartment.

I don’t really know what to make of these TV show themed boxes. I have a ton of nostalgia for some of these shows, but I don’t really want a lot of merch with the show name printed on it. Give me throw pillows like the ones on Monica and Rachel’s couch, or those oversized, whimsical Central Perk mugs (that don’t say Central Perk on them), and I’d probably subscribe. But, like you, I can’t quite see myself wearing a backpack that says FRIENDS across the back. Items that let me have that aesthetic, sure! Items that brand me as a superfan, not so much.

That is so funny that you said that about the mug because I thought the same thing, like I wish this was the giant mugs that were so 90s coffee shop!

I agree as well. What do people do with this stuff? Yes, some of it is useable, but a lot of the TV boxes are full of things that will just collect dust and end up in the landfill.
