Allure Beauty Box November 2020 Review

This handy booklet has all the product info inside.

Joséphine Cosmetics Eye Dazzle in 'Leona', 6 g – Full Size! Retail Value $30.00

While the majority of the box this month is skincare focused, I am glad the Allure team included this really lovely liquid eyeshadow. This brand was new to me, and I like it a lot! It is USA made and performs well. The shade sent in this box is a super metallic bronze that reads almost chrome on the lids if you apply it in multiple thin layers. You can also blend this out with a fluffy eye brush (be fast, before it dries!) for a more sheer effect. I did find this worked better with a primer because it helped the layers stick in place.

This image doesn't do this stuff justice. It is chrome-metallic and somehow also sparkling!

Manna Kadar Lip Bliss Lip Mask, 10 g - Full Size! Retail Value $19.00

I will be the first to admit that I don't like the Manna Kadar brand. I never seem to really enjoy the formulas, scents, or performance. This lip mask is just ok. I would personally consider this more of just a lip balm than a mask, as it isn't terribly thick and it doesn't cling to the lips all that much. It does a good job of performing like a moisturizing balm and I will likely use this until it's gone, but I am not terribly excited by it.

SkinMedica Instant Eye Bright Mask, 1 pair - Estimated Value $8.00 (buy 6 pairs for $48.00)

I adore eye gels, and the older I get the more I like to pamper the delicate and sensitive skin under my peepers. These gels are the type that are on a velvety fabric background and they really stick to your skin instead of just slowly sliding down your face. Inside is a serum with loads of antioxidants that will help reinforce my skin and assist in keeping my skin youthful. These were instantly cooling, plumping, and wonderfully enjoyable.

Neogen Dermalogy Real Ferment Micro Essence, 20 mL - Estimated Value $5.07 (Buy a full-size 150 mL for $38.00)

I loved this stuff INSTANTLY. Something about ferments really meshes well with my skin, and this clear liquid is full of them. The main ingredient here is Bifida Ferment Lysate which is basically a probiotic with UV protection superpowers. Since the sun is the #1 cause of aging skin, this is a big deal. But this essence doesn't stop there, it literally has 20+ other really incredible ingredients that make me want to totally geek out. If I have to limit my excitement to 5 (we could seriously be here all day) they would be: hyaluronic acid (of course), niacinamide (also, of course), adenosine (a healing anti-inflammatory), proline (related to collagen production), and arginine (a building block for collagen and elastin). This stuff looks just like water but is more "slippy". I like to put a few drops in my hands then pat it into my face between cleansing and moisturizing. This is def going on my buy list.

NatureLab Tokyo Clarifying Scalp Scrub, 1 oz - Estimated Value $1.82 (Buy 8.8 oz for $16.00)

Phew. Let's take a break from skincare and check out some hair stuff. I really like Naturelab Tokyo. It's one of those brands that bridge performance and price for me. I have yet to try anything from them I didn't enjoy. I tend to avoid scalp scrubs because my hair is so thick that it takes A LOT of product to get a good scrub going. I did end up using the entire pot of this in one go, but it was worth it. One thing I really love about this product is that the scrubbies are made of sugar, meaning they dissolve after doing their job. I have tried some scrubs with beads that never dissolve and getting those out of my hair is a legit nightmare. This product is great for washing away any product build-up you might have and it leaves your hair shiny and smelling great! What's not to love?

When The Last Choice Extra-Hydrating Sheet Mask - Retail Value $7.00

I saved this mask for the evening because I knew I would want to be laying down on the couch and relaxing to enjoy it. It is made of that sort of second skin jelly material that really clings to your face. It isn't super damp, but you can feel the serum go to work pretty fast! It was a mask that also had a very cooling effect on my skin, which was nice because I used this with a little windburn action from yard work. The serum features hyaluronic acid for hydration and ginseng for antioxidants.

Acure Ultra Hydrating 12 Hour Facial Moisturizer, 20 mL - Estimated Value $12.66 (Buy 30 mL for $18.99)

My last item was a cool little pouch of moisturizer. Acure is another one of those brands I like because the products usually work well and they are affordable. I liked this formula enough to use it, but I don't think it would take the place of some of my other favorite moisturizers. It does have a little bit of alcohol but it is cetearyl alcohol which isn't the drying sort. It is fatty and mainly used in formulas as an emollient and to stabilize oil + water mixtures. I did notice my skin did stay really nice and hydrated for at least 10 hours. This is probably because this formula also has sunflower seed oil, aloe, shea, and vitamin E. It does have a rather strong scent from essential oils that I personally liked, but I don't know that everyone will.

Verdict: This Allure box has a total value of around $125.55 which is nice for a $23 box. This really felt like a skincare focused assortment with a few little surprises like the eye shadow and the hair scrub and I enjoyed everything in here, though I found myself less enthused about the Manna Kadar and Acure items. I found myself really liking the serum (though I wish it was alcohol-free) and I am obsessed with the essence. Honestly, that was my fave item of the whole lot and I can't wait to buy a full size. This was a well-rounded box even if it wasn't my favorite from Allure, and I do think this curation could have benefitted from one sample from a bigger or more exciting brand. I will say that the value was absolutely there and if you are skincare obsessed, you will likely enjoy this one too!

The Manna Kadar lip mask is AMAZING! It is thick and like a night lip mask. Im surprised that the review didnt care for it. Im super picky and absolutely LOVE this stuff. Its by dar one of my top 5 night time lip treatments. Thanks friends and happy new year!

The Manna Kadar lip mask made my lips break out in blisters overnight. I never liked that brand but now I officially HATE it.

The Derma serum is AMAZING. I don’t care for the smell of it but the nearly immediate benefits make it so worth it. I will definitely be buying another full size!

The scalp scrub is another I will be purchasing. The smell is so clean and it made my hair so soft and luxurious.

I’ll gladly pay $23 for boxes like this, if only they left out that crappy Manna brand. Where the heck did it come from and why is it in every beauty box? I expected more from Allure not to recommend and include terrible brands.

I have been using the Dermalect serum for about two weeks and I have to say that I am kind of shocked. It actually seems to be improving my skin. I actually have visible results. I am looking forward to seeing the changes as I make my way through the bottle.

I got my Allure box last night after hearing about everyone else unbox theirs. I am so happy to be wrong about this month! I LOVED my box. It seemed like so many products and I am realizing that my dry yet congested skin loves salicylic acid so I am psyched about the serum. Dear Allure – I’m sorry for judging you too soon and I still love you!

☆ Manna Kadar Lip Bliss Lip Mask ☆ My tube came almost completely empty ☹ This was the item that I was most looking forward to trying out. I have a really bad obsession with lip balms & glosses. I pumped my wand several times & almost nothing, if you hold the tube up to a light you can see all the way through to the bottom. The was no leakage or damage to the box it came in. I was really disappointed so I emailed Allure to explain & request a new gloss to be sent to me if possible. I also took a picture showing them the emptiness & the dry wand but nothing…no reply back to me yet & its been since 11/13th. Has anybody else noticed their tube was almost empty ? The small amount that I was able to get out smelled heavenly & the gloss is a perfect consistency for me ♡

I was super confused as the doe-foot piece was missing from my applicator. When I opened it there was just a stick with barely anything on it and I couldn’t figure out how I was supposed to use it. Sounds like the quality control could use a little attention.

Jackie

This happened to me also. I just opened it today. Did you email customer service?

T.Marie

Hi, I haven’t received mine yet but their customer service isn’t that great lately. Keep emailing until they reply. There is a phone number you can call. I think it’s hidden from the public tho lol…. good luck!

SBR

I haven’t tried mine yet but I just went to check. Mine feels at least 3/4 full when the wand is out so mine is definitely not empty. I would email them again and if still nothing then call them.

Thank you so much for your reply & I appreciate you checking yours out for me 🙂

This ended up being a pretty good box! I was so worried that that eye shadow would be too dark, but it’s actually a lovely color that you can make as light or dark as you want. I liked the lip mask, too. I agree with Megan that it’s more of a gloss than a mask, but I don’t mind it at all. I needed another moisturizer so I’m glad I can put off buying one for a little while longer. I absolutely loved the scalp scrub. It left my hair feeling so clean and soft; I am definitely buying the full sized version. This is why I like subscription boxes – it’s an opportunity to try things I normally wouldn’t try. I really wish Allure would include this type of stuff more often instead of all those serums. I can’t comment on the serums in this box because I’m still working my way through the Peach and Lily serum from the summer. Then there’s that vitamin c powder from last month, 2 serums this month, and 2 serums next month. What in the world am I going to do with all these serums? My skin also just really loves that peach and lily serum – it hasn’t looked this good in years – so I’m really hesitant about switching up my current routine.

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

I’m still working on my Peach and Lily serum too as I like it the best of the serums that came before it. I pump a couple of squirts of the serum in the palm of my hand and then tap some of the vitamin C powder from last month in it and stir with my finger until it dissolves. That way my serum also has vitamin C. I’ve been mixing the vitamin C powder with my face cream at night too.

There is supposed to be a preferred dosage of the powder to serum or cream but I don’t follow it. My skin is really forgiving and nothing breaks it out or irritates it so I’m not cautious at all. I haven’t done it long enough to see obvious results but I’ll keep going until the C powder is gone.

I really loved this month’s box. I was excited to try the Dermelect serum after reading about it. The scent, to me, is sweet like maple syrup. I couldn’t stomach it. I will still use every other product, however.

Izzie

Thank you for the review! I was waiting to try the essence until I was done with my currently in use one, but I am going to use it tomorrow morning, I’m extremely curious.
As for the other items, I haven’t tried all of them yet, but I can say that I didn’t like the ingredients of the lip mask and that it didn’t do much for my lips. On the other side, I am very pleased with the scrub, I will definitely purchase it.

Lana

glad I kept this box, look forward to trying the essence. The full sized products could be a better value, especially that lip balm

Dermelect Serum – I have been using this at night and I like the results so far, but not the scent.

Joséphine Cosmetics Eye Dazzle – too watery for me, but a pretty color.

Manna Kadar Lip Mask – will use this.

SkinMedica Eye Masks – I really don’t like eye masks at all. They never seem to do anything.

NatureLab Tokyo Scalp Scrub – really love this and many of their other products.

The manna lip mask is amazing

I loved the scalp scrub as it left my oily hair feeling amazingly dry. I’m on day 3 after using it and my hair is much less oily than its norm. (I accidentally got a few pieces in my ear whilst rinsing and ouch! My ear is now very exfoliated.)
The lip mask is really just lip balm and I like it. I also enjoyed the eye shadow product.
I used the eye masks send, although soothing, didn’t have any lasting results.

Mellissa

Something is making the skin peel on my chin and neck. I never deal with peeling skin as I tend to be oily. Interesting! I’m guessing it is the Dermelect serum as I have been slathering it on. Anyone else having this issue?

Reply ButtonReply

Julie

Maybe use less of the serum? I was having that problem too, although what was really peeling off was the layers of my skin care. Now I use less on each layer and allow it to dry a little in between layers and no more peeling.

Carol

Nice review!

I will have to try that Neogen essence. I love slippy, watery essences, because literally almost everything else never absorbs and makes me greasy. I’d love something I can wear in the daytime under my SPF.

I received mine last night…unfortunately it was missing the eyeshadow and the essence.

Got my box yesterday and I didn’t get alot of those items! I had way different items! I had a sigma red liquid lip and other skincare items, and to me it was not worth the price increase with the items I had gotten. It was just like the regular ole $15 box with all samples and I had one full size item and a sheet mask if you want to call that full size. I am really disappointed now! I am gonna have to call customer service and see why I had totally different items even though I’ve been subscribes to them for like 3 years now.

Sherri

The box with the Sigma red lippie was the October box.

Reply ButtonReply

April

I think what you opened is the October box! The eye cream, vitamin c and nail polish are considered the full sized products in that particular box!

Did you get the October box instead of the November box? https://www.mysubscriptionaddiction.com/2020/10/allure-review-oct-2020.html

Because you had such a glowing review, I just bought a neogen trial kit on stylevana that had the ferment essence, cleansing water, and vitamin c serum, so now I’m super excited to try that. I have a code for 20% off if anyone else is interested http://rwrd.io/k4156wv

Hi all, I just received my November Allure box yesterday, Friday the 20th. (And I’m still waiting for my IPSY GBP, even tho they sent me the “your bag has been shipped!” message on Nov. 3…the 3rd my Aunt Fanny! According to DHL, they *finally* got the package and I should expect to receive it on the 24th. Derp!)

I haven’t received mine either. I got the shipping notification a week ago but tracking isn’t showing a delivery date yet. I am a new subscriber and so far not super impressed with the shipping time or the box contents.

I actually really liked this box (for $13 and some change 😂) Personally, I would use the serum in the morning because of the addition of vitamin C. Retinols and vitamin C shouldn’t be used together.

Reply ButtonReply

SharonDK

Snow (or anyone else that knows)- I currently use a retinol serum at night, Is it more effective to use the C serum in the day and the retinol at night, or alternate nights between the C and the retinol? I know enough not to use both- did it once by mistake and ended up looking like the BEFORE in an ad for a rosacea treatment. I do have mild rosacea, but the reaction I’m describing was not mild. I think this is pretty decent for a $13 box, and like many of you I’m in for the year, so I have 9 more to go. I don’t subscribe to any other boxes due to finances (laid off since 5/1- this was a gift) so I plan to enjoy the hell out of Allure as best I can until I get another job.

Reply ButtonReply

Snow

I’m a long time tretinoin user and use it without fail every night. I only use the .025 strength because it’s less irritating than the 1 percent strength and actually will perform just as good but just takes longer to get there.

I personally have always used vitamin C in the morning. The serum also has the acids in it, but those can go on day or night (or both.) I like to use this in the morning alongside a vitamin C oil. I’ve been pretty happy with the results as my skincare regimen has seen some highs and lows, but always always C in the morning and retinol at night. ☺️

Megan K.

Hi Sharon! I like to use my retinol products at night because sometimes sunlight can affect the efficacy of the retinol. It depends on the actual formula, but I like to play it safe! You can also alternate every other day too! Just make sure you are wearing sunscreen every single day regardless. 🙂
