The Detox Box is a green beauty subscription box from The Detox Market that costs $55/month. You'll usually receive 2-3 products from a featured brand each month that follow their strict ingredient standards and help you discover non-toxic ways to continue your beauty routine. What I love about this subscription is that I can try popular and undiscovered brands alike at a really good value!

FYI - COVID-19 Update: You can read about how The Detox Market is addressing shipping delays and other adaptations during this time right here.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

The Detox Box October 2020 Review

The info cards provided give us some details on both items included this month, as well as some background on the brand and creator: Rose-Marie Swift!

RMS Beauty Signature Set in Mod Collection - Full Size! Retail Value $44.00

This palette was so cute! I love the while plastic and compact square shape. Inside is a pair of highlighters, 2 lip and cheek creams, and a clear lip and skin balm. I love a natural makeup look and 2020 has made my daily face even more minimal. I usually apply some sort of BB cream, some cheek color, and a lip color of some sort. On "fancy" days (at my desk) I will swipe on a fun shadow. This little kit pretty much has me covered. The champagne highlighter is perfect for adding light to anywhere on my face and the cooler pearl one is wonderful for under my brow bone and the tip of my nose. Both of the lip and cheek colors work well on both my lips and cheeks but I particularly love them on my face because the texture is a dream for a seamless flush of color if you apply with your fingertips. Lastly, the balm is great for dry lips or anywhere on your face that needs a little hydration. I do want to call out that this is a coconut oil-heavy palette, so if you have oilier skin, just be aware if you are avoiding comedogenic ingredients.

Top to bottom: Master Mixer, Living Luminizer, Smile Lip2Cheek, and Spell Lip2Cheek.

RMS Beauty Eye Polish in 'Aura', 4.25 g - Full Size! Retail Value $28.00 (this shade is currently on sale for $19.60!)

I really love sheer washes of eyeshadow. I rarely opt for drama on my lids and a formula like this is utter perfection for my routine. I was a little worried this might be too silvery or cool (no one wants to just add dark circles to their eyes) but it's actually quite pretty on and looks super chic. I applied with my fingertips and found this sheer but buildable, and I think this would be really pretty on anyone who wants a nice wash of color on their lids without feeling like they have put a ton of effort into their look. I am really considering adding a few more of these shades to my stash.

Pretty!

I tried on the palette and polish:

Since these were all creams, I used my fingertips to pat them onto my skin.

I am not wearing any brow products (yikes) or mascara, but you can see how these items together give a nice natural glow!

The 'Aura' shade on my lids is very subtle, especially when compared to the swatch.

RMS Beauty Eye Polish Brush - Retail Value $22.00

This brush arrived to be used with the eye polish, but I thought 'naaaah' and just used my fingers instead. I feel like it wastes less product, but I also realize that brushes are often more sanitary. Since these products won't be going on any client's faces, I feel fine with finger application. Either way, this brush is really beautiful and works well for both cream and powder eye products.

RMS Beauty Mini "Un" Powder, size unknown- Listed Value $4.00 (Buy a full size 9 g for $34.00)

This is a talc and silicone-free translucent power that has a very different feel than the other powders in my collection. It is made of silica and is both powdery and slippery. I honestly am not sure how I feel about it! It does do a great job of giving a slightly matte finish to my face but it still allows the radiance from the luminizing products to glow. Would I change my no-to-powder stance for this? No. But this is probably a lot better for my skin.

RMS Beauty Mini Wild With Desire Lipstick in 'Brain Teaser', 1.8 g - Estimated Value $11.20 (buy a full size 4.5 g for $28.00)

This ultra-pigmented lip looked super brown on my arm but a lot prettier on my lips. This is a satin finish formula but it is thicker and feels like it is literally hugging your lips. It also has a lot more staying power than so many other satin finishes in my collection. The texture is super smooth and it left my lips feeling more hydrated than before I applied it. I really liked this and wish it had been full size.

Here is a swatch!

And here it is on my lips!

RMS Beauty Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes, 2 wipes - Estimated Value $1.60 (buy 20 wipes for $16.00)

I didn't love these wipes. They are coated in coconut oil and while they do a great job of breaking down and removing makeup, they leave my face feeling filmy and oily. I also would caution anyone with acne-prone skin to maybe skip these since, again, coconut oil is comedogenic. It does also have some really great moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties but this is going to be one of those products that just isn't going to be for everyone, in my opinion.

RMS Beauty Un Coverup samples in 11.5, 22.5, and 55 - Buy a full size 5.67 g here for $36.00

There was also a little card with three small concealer samples. I wish they could have included a wider shade range since this product is offered in 16 different shades. The shades ended up not working for me but I will say that I loved the concealer itself. It has a great smooth finish and you just need the tiniest amount to hide discoloration and spots! Again, this is a coconut oil product. Heads up!

Top to bottom: 11.5, 22.5, and 55.

I tried the lightest shade on but found it was way too warm for my face. This didn't surprise me much though. I tend to need more neutral (and sometimes even cooler) concealers and foundations.

Verdict: This month's Detox Box featured a brand I enjoy. I love the effortless vibes of all of the RMS beauty formulas and products. I have dry skin that doesn't seem to break out when I use coconut oil, but I know a lot of people avoid this because of breakouts, making this assortment maybe a little less than ideal for some. The value this month was nice too! The items total approximately $110.80 with my estimations. I did have to rely on the listed value of the powder since I have no clue what size it is. This is still a good value for a $55 box (you have doubled your investment) but maybe including the lipstick as full-size would have been extra nice!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I liked the pieces individually, but don’t think they really go together. Silvery eyeshadow and brownish lipstick… On me they looked much better when worn separate!

I gave the whole box away. I was really disappointed to get makeup. I hope this month is only skincare (and no toothpaste and toothbrushes).
