September 2020 So Susan Color Curate Review

Our included info card had a super cute shell design and a list of all of the products inside.

Limited-Edition Makeup Bag, September 2020 - Retail Value $12.00

The same adorable shell pattern in blue, purple, and pink was on this month's bag. The interior was a pale yellow.

So Susan Cosmetics Blush & Glow Luminizing Blush in 'Rose Rust', 3 g - Retail Value $22.95

I liked this blush immediately! It has a great smooth feel and enough shimmer to feel like a blush + subtle highlighter sort of combo. The color is a peachy rust pink and it was very flattering. Just a little on a fluffy brush gives a sheer and super natural wash of color, but you can totally build it up to something more dramatic while still looking very natural.

'Rose Rust' is a pretty perfect name for this shimmering shade!

Jelly Pong Pong Cosmetics Celestina Eyeshadow & Highlight Palette in Pink Solstice', 12 g - Retail Value $35.00

At first, I thought these shades felt a little repetitive because we already received a blush, but these formulas feel and look quite different. This trio is perfect for blush or eyeshadow, and the lightest shade looks great as a twinkling highlight. The middle shade is that winning combo of pink + gold that always reminds me of a very popular NARS shade and the darkest color works as a blush if you have a very light hand but shines (literally) on the eyelids.

I really love pink.

So Susan Cosmetics Color Trip High-Intensity Color Pigment in 'Addicted', 2.3 g - Retail Value $18.00

This was the one item I really didn't like this month. I avoid glitters like this because they are grainy and if I ever got any of this in my eye I would be feeling pretty terrible for myself. This glitter is a true metallic gold and for everyone out there who might feel more comfortable with such things, it has some major shine!

24K.

So Susan Cosmetics LipoPout in "Cats", 4 g - Retail Value $18.95

Our last item is the sort of borderline obnoxious fuschia I really, really love. And the bullet is covered in cute cats?! Sign me up. This hot pink has a lot of blue in it, making it feel cooler than a lot of pinks out there. It sure is a shock of color for fall and winter, but why shouldn't we be unpredictable and fun at any time of the year? The texture is a very smooth satin finish that looks more matte than it actually is because there is no shimmer inside.

MEOW.

Verdict: So Susan Color Curate has a value of $106.90 this month and if you love shimmering pink shades, it was a total winner. I really would be happy never seeing loose glitter eyeshadow again but the rest of these selections make up for that, especially that cat-covered lipstick!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I agree with Rose. I love bold lips, including bright pinks, but hate brown and nude lipsticks.

This looks like it would have been a great bag, but I talked myself out of subscribing. I’m always tempted by So Susan’s adorable pouches, but do I need anymore of those? I’m also obsessed with lipsticks and cats, but have way too many lippies right now (and cat stuff), so I forced myself to pass. Sigh.

Amy

Can anyone here wear that color lipstick?

I wear loud pinks often. 🙂
I agree on this not being ideal for a mask. I am WFH these days though, and a pink like this really pops over Zoom!

Rose

Yes, I can. It is a better color than the myriad of poop brown lipsticks that seem to be in many makeup subscriptions. The better question is “Who would wear this color these days?”, as this is not a color I’d use if I had to wear a mask more than once per day (and that doesn’t seem to happen).
