Savage X Fenty Xtra VIP Membership Review - September 2020

Kick Back 2-Piece Set - Retail Value $79.90/VIP Member Price $59.95

After the pineapple and vinyl themed discomfort I felt in my August delivery, I decided something comfortable was in order! This bralette + leggings combo seemed to be a perfect choice for me right now, especially since I cherish leggings I can sleep AND workout in. This set is mostly black (I only really wear black leggings) but featured a rainbow foiled elastic edge that was so cute, making them the perfect mix of fun and functional.

Forever Savage Bralette with Rainbow Logo - Retail Value $29.95/VIP Member Price $22.95

Savage x Fenty bralettes are some of my favorites. They are not going to give you sports bra level support, but they are darn near perfect for wearing around the house or for running errands, even for my 38H/I chest. I absolutely love this mix of black stretch fabric and the bright metallic logo band! It takes what could be a less exciting little top and makes it feel very fun and special. I am happy to report that the band stays in place really well (none of that dreadful rolling). The only real complaint I have about this design is that the seam for the straps is right on top of my shoulder, where the most weight lands. This is a very minor complaint and I get why the seam is there, but I wish it wasn't at the apex of all that weight!

Forever Savage Legging with Rainbow Logo - Retail Value $49.95/VIP Member Price $39.95

I am pretty in love with the whole Savage x Fenty legging situation. These high-waisted leggings feel SO good on and the fabric isn't thick but you certainly don't have to worry about turning sheer when you bend over. I ordered a 1X in these but they are so stretchy I could have sized down to an XL for more compression. Luckily, I cherish comfort, and this size still felt decently fitted. The bright foil logo totally POPS against the black background and I am happy to report it shows no sign of fading after three wash + dry cycles.

The Verdict: Savage X Fenty is back in my good graces after that crazy August delivery. This was the first bit of loungewear I have ordered from them and I am a total convert. I feel weirdly sporty and very cool in this set and I am very pleased with the fabrics, embellishment, and fit of both pieces.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get these pieces if you sign up today? Yep! Some of the sizes have sold out, but many are still left.

Value Breakdown: If purchased separately, these items would have cost $79.90, but I got them in a set via the Xtra VIP box that only costs $59.95, meaning I saved 25% (about $20) with my VIP membership.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

This new trend of talking poorly about MSA reviewers is really strange to me, something I thought I would not see in MSA. I have been reading this site daily for over 6 years where in the beginning most of the reviews were by Liz, Eric, Haley and Ragan.

I have loved all the reviewers who have been added since, many of whom have been writing reviews now for years too.

I know this is an older review, but I have seen negativity towards reviewers since this review.

If you truly get rubbed the wrong way by a specific reviewer, just don’t read them. There are other review sites that may provide a review of that box . MSA is my favorite and I can’t ever see that changing, but I also like Sarah’s reviews from A Year of Boxes. If you are bothered by a lot of enthusiasm in a review and think it’s insincere than her reviews you should avoid. But I do think she is sincere and just an excitable person. I read that subscription blog daily too. She too has other reviews. Hello subscription reviews are even tempered and I read these reviews a few times a week. They are all by the same woman and her daughter models the clothing at times. Hello subscription reviews some boxes not covered here. Even so, I love MSA for the diversity of the reviewers and how they each have their own personality.

Megan’s reviews are detailed, are positive and intelligent. If you think Megan’s using squee in a review is over the top, then how can you stand the Uber enthusiasm from Nicole’s reviews? I love Nicole’s reviews, but if Megan’s enthusiasm is a problem for you then there must be other reviews on MSA that run you wrong too, because this a happy bunch.

All I’m saying and others are saying, is that you are in charge of what media, reviews specifically, you read. And if you have a constructive feedback to give, it can be done in a way that is respectful, but really, why bother. Unless a review is racist, has stereotypes, is tone deaf about privilege, etc. That is when you speak up, not because a reviewer shows more enthusiasm than you like.

Not a fan of Savagex Fenty. Their customer service is severely lacking. They claim you can make a return, but they fail to mention the restocking fee per item if you want a refund. In order to do an exchange, you also have to wait until they receive your return to get your credit- which takes weeks, although they falsely told me it was immediately available once I shipped back By that time, the size you want to exchange for us long gone. Not happy with this company and their “claims” that if it doesn’t fit, you can return. HUGE hassle.

Geez. I’m really not liking the some of the comments toward Megan lately. It’s fine not to like a reviewer’s writing style, but what can be accomplished by criticizing it, aside from making Megan feel bad? Just skip the reviews and hold your tongue (er, fingers).

Kathy

Same! If you don’t like it just skim the post or don’t even read it. Putting a negative, non-constructive comment doesn’t help anyone. Personally, Megan’s one of my fav reviewers cause her writing is energetic

Geez 😳
Anyway, I really enjoy your reviews Megan! Quick question, do you mind if I ask what size the top part is? I’m trying to gauge my size in fenty. I’m plus sized (normally wear 2x bottoms) but I’m small chested in comparison (a c cup). Thanks!

Great review, thank you Megan!

Why aren’t we seeing modeling pictures it’s not like lingerie but would be much helpful in seeing it used. No offense but this review falls short because of this.

Mountaineer95

No offense, but I have to wonder if you are just a troll. Most (non-model, non-influencer, totally normal) women would likely be uncomfortable posting photos of themselves wearing a small sports bra. Unless we are on a very fitness-centric blog or site where the average customer/reader is quite fit, we don’t expect the reviewer to model the pieces such as this. In fact, when I first started reading this review and saw the tininess of the bra and that Megan was reviewing it (please don’t be offended Megan, I too am plus size with a ginormous chest, and value your input and love your reviews), I fully expected to NOT see pics of Megan modeling the bra, and would have been surprised if she had done so.

If you genuinely wanted to know more about the product and its fit, you could have messaged Megan directly and asked questions and even for photos. Or you could have shared those thoughts (ie, “how does it look on, can you describe the fit in more detail”) in your comment and I bet that Megan would have been more than happy to help.

I think the review is very helpful without such photos. But if that’s the kind of review you need to see to help you determine whether a box or a product is right for you, I’m sure there are other sites, other reviewers, and other blogs that will meet your needs.

Agreed. For items like this, all I expect (and am happy to see) is a picture of the item being modeled from the company’s website.

Megan K.

No offense taken! The top is a bra with less coverage than your average sports bra (at least on my bustline), and I am not comfortable posting photos of myself in a bra online. We include the model shot for this reason. Thanks for taking the time to read! 🙂

Kristin

Understand but there are leggings too, you could have put on a tshirt to cover bra. Sorry haters this is not meant to be mean she is reviewing clothing this month. Let Nicole review if you are uncomfortable, which again I respect. I don’t want to see thongs but yes leggings. I love Megan’s reviews I am not beating up on her, just voicing an opinion I am a visual person.

h

This is basically like a bra, NOT lipstick, so I totally agree with Megan’s decision, and hope that no one ever feels pushed to publish comprised photos. That was totally inappropriate to ask that, Kristin!

Ashleigh

Megan, I completely disagree with the original commenter that your review falls short due to the lack of modeling pictures. Not everyone would feel comfortable wearing a bra in a picture that is posted on the internet!! I think it is inappropriate to ask that of someone who do thoughtfully reviews many different types of boxes. You try on the things for us that are within your comfort zone, you always look lovely, and we appreciate you.

Jenn Wade

I squee with excitement to read your reviews! They make me so happy. Thank you Megan!

I avoid your reviews because of your “squee” insistence. I wish I could filter the stuff that goes directly to my inbox, as I really don’t want to be squeed-upon ever again. Note to self…You got through my defences with the Fenty review.

I love the fun, informal tone of the reviews on this site (from Megan and others). They provide the information readers are looking for while also showing the author’s personality. Win-win!

Mountaineer95

Hi Rose! While you strive to avoid reading reviews from this reviewer, it seems this one snuck through the cracks of whatever filtering method you’re using.

The best way to completely avoid ever again having to read an unwanted review is to check at the very top of the review post where it says “by” and names the reviewer. You can find this immediately beneath the title of the review. If you check there right away, before reading any further, you’ll see who wrote the review, and can accordingly choose whether you would like to read it (and in the case of someone whose reviews you avoid, you will never unwittingly read one again if you practice this step).

I’m surprised that you were able to get all the way down to the comment section without seeing that, but no worries; now you know and in the future can avoid such reviews. Glad to be of help!

Yes to this, Mountaineer95!!

What a weird comment.

I cant help but suspect it was influenced heavily by boxed wine.

And yet. You took the time to read this and be nasty about it. Shame on you. Don’t bother replying. I don’t read responses.

Rose,

Come on…
Why be so critical? Lighten up!

Hi Rose! I just did a search of my reviews because I was worried I was using this exclamation too often. So far, in 2020, I have found 1 instance, in my CURATEUR review. I do, however, use the word ‘squeeze’ A LOT. I am sorry if my usage was unclear. Here is another definition from Urban Dictionary to provide some clarity: “Squee: A noise primarily made by an over-excited fangirl, however it has spread rapidly and is now widely spread among the web community.” As someone who is generally over-excited, I am sorry I used a word that also had a slightly less fun meaning. Either way, thanks for taking the time to read my review!

Okay, so I’m old (47 next week) and also new-ish to sub boxes and the sub-box culture (if there is one, lol). I am current on some things and a dinosaur when it comes to others. From the first time I saw “squeee” (various degrees of “e”s used, unsure how many are correct) used (and it was in relation to an item or thing), I interpreted it as a squeal of glee/excitement. Kind of like how I use “yay!”, maybe a bit more excited. Like, squealing with glee equals “squee!”

But Rose is using a verb—- “squeeing”—— and there are many examples of two words that are seemingly the same, but when used in different forms are quite different. The exclamation of “squee!” Is NOT a verb. I’ve never seen Megan (or anyone else for that matter) say “squeeing with joy” or the like. It’s always used as an exclamation similar to “yay!”

Now, if “squeeing” is a verb denoting a time/place/circumstance of urination, which I don’t doubt, of course it would be inappropriate to use in the context of a sub box review. But to assert that squee, when used as an exclamation and not tied to the verb in any way, must be related in definition, is incorrect.

SquirrelyGirl

I’m pretty sure this is the same Rose that has been giving several box CEO’s a hard time. I think she’s just online to make a fuss and ruffle feathers. I’d ignore her. Your reviews are great Megan!

Murakami

I have never associated the word “squee” with anything but crazy excited fangirls (often tween or teenage ones lol). I guess it does depend heavily on one’s web diet.

Will second Megan’s note about the Fenty stuff wearing and washing well; I didn’t expect something mass produced for a celebrity (no hate, I love Ri-Ri but a lot of that stuff is sub-par or below) subscription to be as nice as it is.

Kay

Megan, I love your reviews! You can’t please everyone – and neither should you try to. What you do brings value to your readers.

Rose
