Keto Krate October 2020 Review

Can you believe it is already October? I sure can't, and while I love this time of year, the temptations of candy and casseroles seem to be lurking in every corner. I was in desperate need of some low carb snack options, and my Keto Krate box came in the nick of time! Scroll down to find out what kind of items we received this month.

I love the included pamphlets this subscription sends each month. I find them extremely informational and love the cute Halloween themed clip art and helpful tips. I also find the success stories extremely motivating. Not only does this guide feature recipes, but it also includes inspirational quotes, the links to the month's product info (krate.club), and tips on how to manage your subscription.

Heka Good Foods Maple Pecan Ketobar - Buy a 12 pack for $38.99

Fat 18g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 10/10

I have never had a Heka Good Foods bar before, but I can tell you that chewy, sweet, and crunchy mixture is Heka delicious! Low carb bars tend to be on the greasy side, which is true of this particular version as well, but the combination of maple and pecan is absolutely divine. At 1 net carb per bar, these babies are fantastic, even impressing the non-low carbers in my life. I will take all of the Heka Good bars please...

Wild Bill's Pork Belly Bites - Buy a 3 pack for $22.99

Fat 11g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

Yes, yes, yes to the meat part of this subscription! We all know my little boys eye up this box for the jerky and pork treats, and they weren't disappointed when I opened these morsels up. These smoked, cured, and seasoned pork belly bites are made with 100% real bacon and are made in the USA. Featuring a smoky, chewy, yet charred flavor they were incredibly delicious by themselves, but also added a nice flavor to my honey mustard salad as well. I definitely wouldn't be mad if these came in another box... soon!

Nunaturals Salted Caramel Flavored Syrup - Retail Value $6.39

Fat 0g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: ?

Crazy story... I literally just started drinking coffee last week, and it's always the 3-hour old leftovers from my husband's morning brew. Anyways, I was rushing around to get out the door when I realized I forgot my coffee, which I had flavored with this salted caramel-flavored syrup. I needed to transfer the concoction into my travel thermos when I realized I forgot the thermos at school. Reaching into my cupboard I ended up somehow knocking down three mugs, shattering one all over the kitchen before I got the spare thermos out. Hurriedly, I splashed the java into the thermos and flew out the door. In running to the car, my backpack slipped down my shoulder and knocked the thermos out of my hand, spilling almost every drop all over our driveway... needless to say I didn't get to give this syrup a try yet. Hopefully, I'll have better luck tomorrow as this sugar-free, gluten-free, vegan syrup smells delicious and is my favorite flavor ever.

Superseedz Somewhat Spicy Gourmet Pumpkin Seeds - Retail Value $3.75

Fat 13g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

Bring on the seeds! If you have read some of my other reviews, you may know that we grow pumpkins as a side gig. This year we sold over 500, and ate our fair share of seeds. While I generally do a salt and pepper seasoning, we found this "somewhat spicy," no shell version fantastic. My kids loved the fact that they were easy to eat and you didn't have to chew through the hard shell. While this recipe had a little bit of kick to it, they suited my 5-year-old just fine, and he has already added them to his birthday list.

JiMMY! Blueberry Nut Protein Bar - Buy a pack of 12 bars in a different flavor for $29.99

Fat 15g | Net Carbs 5g | Taste Score: 5/10

I have to be honest and say this bar had A LOT going on in it. Besides being flavored with blueberries, nuts, and grains, chocolate was also incorporated into this 5 net carb bar. While I enjoy the fact that this brand creates "bars with benefits" I just couldn't get on board with the flavor. The texture was pretty good, and it was a lot less greasy than a lot of other low carb options, but I think I would have enjoyed this more if they had skipped the chocolate and stuck with just the fruit flavor.

Think Jerky Original Grass Fed Beef Stick - Buy a pack of 10 for $19.99

Fat 5g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 10/10

I get so excited to see beef sticks with a low carb count, as a lot of brands tend to be on the higher side. This grass-fed beef stick had a great texture, was easy to chew without being greasy, and had a really natural flavor that left me craving more. My kids and husband enjoyed this stick as well, hence why I would have liked more for myself!

FBomb Macadamia with Sea Salt Nut Butter - Buy a 10-pack for $22.94

Fat 22g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 6/10

I really want to get on-board with the fancy nut butter train, but in my mind, nothing beats some plain old peanut butter. This macadamia and sea salt butter is really tasty in its own way, but I did not love the packaging. This included quite a bit of nut butter, and a resealable package would have been ideal. As it was a little on the thin side, it had a bit of a different texture than what I'm used to, but it was fun to try.

The Naked Market Flock Original Chicken Chips - Retail Value $2.99

Fat 14g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: 4/10

I have enjoyed more than my fair share of pork rinds, but I had never experienced the chicken chip, until receiving this box. These crunchy chicken skins are seasoned with salt, are sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free. Serving suggestions include sprinkling them on salads, serving on a charcuterie board, or enjoying them straight out of the bag. I decided to give them a go straight out of the bag, and I have to say I was a bit disappointed. While the chicken flavor is there, it really just reminded me of stale chicken skin on days-old KFC. I wanted to love this, but I just didn't, and my husband wasn't a fan either. While we won't be ordering more of these, I'm glad we were able to give them a chance.

Bunker Hill Cheese Brick Oven Pizza Crunchy Cheese Crisps - Buy a 4-pack for $14.99

Fat 15g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: 9/10

Cheese crisps are one of my favorite go-to's for low carb snacking and this pizza version was top notch. The hard crunch, the tangy cheese, and the pizza flavor were exactly what I needed in my life, and I will be purchasing these in the future.

Smart Baking Company Raspberry Cream Smartcake - Buy an 8-pack for $27.99

Fat 2.5g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: 10/10

We have received Smart Baking Company Smart cakes in the past, but the raspberry cream version was new to me, and I am a fan. This cake has 0 net carbs, which is absolutely astonishing because it is perfectly sweet with no weird aftertaste. The spongey, soft texture melts in your mouth, and I had to hide the second cake from my kids because they were devouring the first one before I could even get a bite. I'll take one of these in every flavor, please!

The Verdict: I love Keto Krate because it gives me the opportunity to discover new low carb foods. Keto snacks are expensive and usually have to be bought in bulk. I don't want to buy a 12-pack of bars when I've never had them before, and risk not liking them. The point of this box for me is to try new brands, flavors, and snacks, plus have a fun taste-testing session with my family! This month I had more hits than misses and found some really awesome new brands and flavors that I otherwise probably wouldn't have tried. I can't wait to see what they send next month!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, no. If you subscribe today, your first box will be the November box.

Value Breakdown: The box costs $39.99 + free shipping which means that each of the 10 items in the box has an average cost of $3.99. I also want to share that on their website, it states the retail value of this month's products is $39.95, but you would pay $62.59 in shipping costs for each product, plus you would have to spend $44.99 to get the discount code savings of minimum orders for each product, which would bring your total value to $147.53, so I think $39.99 is a pretty good price to test out different snacks and find new faves!
