Premium Gentleman's Box "The Outdoorsman Edition" Fall 2020 Review

It looks like there was a printing mishap this month, which is why our box is not the sleek signature black box style we usually receive. I actually kind of liked this design and thought it worked well for an outdoor-themed box!

We did also receive a few promotional items this month, such as a coupon for Wine Awesomeness (check out our reviews) and a $50 gift card for Lawrence Hunt. There is no minimum to use the $50, but it acts more like a coupon code since you can't use other promo codes in conjunction with it.

Our theme for this quarter is "The Outdoorsman Edition" which is something that I knew my husband would be excited about. Gentleman’s Box is actually collaborating with Think Outside (check out Becca's reviews!) over the next few months, which explains this special outdoors-themed box. This booklet highlights our theme with nice photos of all of the items included in this quarter's box, along with some great tips for how to use some of them and a list of camping essentials. This box actually arrived at the perfect time because my husband had already planned to camp outside in our backyard with our two older kids!

Eco Vessel Blanket

Our first item is this really beautiful blanket. It is made from 30% wool and 70% acrylic (handwash only – eek!), but it made a perfect picnic blanket for our outdoor dinner. It packs down fairly small but is a generous size and would be cozy to snuggle up with as well. I really love the colors! Eco Vessel is a family-run business that is committed to sustainability and donates 1% of their sales to environmental nonprofits. It looks like most of the products they sell are food and beverage related and they included a 30% off code for us to use for shopping on their site.

Vintage Gentlemen Knife

This knife is both beautiful and intense-looking! I love that it comes with a case because that blade is pretty sharp! This will definitely come in handy when camping, fishing, or hiking. The stainless steel blade is 4 mm thick with mirror finishing and the handle is made from solid pakka wood. It's both stylish and useful!

Gear Scope Parachute Hammock

This hammock from Gear Scope is really cool! The pouch unfolds to form the hammock which has two carabiners attached to either end and a zip-up mosquito net top. It also came with rope for hanging it and a smaller string to help hold the mosquito net up. This hammock can support up to 440 lbs and fits one adult, or two children comfortably. You can see my daughter here testing it out for us. Our booklet gave some thorough instructions for hanging it, although I just hung it up quickly in the spot our backyard hammock usually hangs and did my best to put the net up. Even with my haphazard hanging, it still supported my daughter and even held up to the kids horsing around a bit with it. I love that the pouch it comes in turns into a pocket on the outside and there is even a smaller pocket on the inside that could hold your phone or a water bottle.

The mosquito net that zips completely closed is the coolest part to me. Here's a view from the inside where I was able to lay comfortably. It even keeps out those pesky toddlers! Haha.

Baker Rye Co. Charcoal Face Wipes, 25 count - Retail Value $19.99

After a day of hiking or camping these face wipes will definitely come in handy! These all-natural wipes contain charcoal for a deep clean, and grapefruit extract which gives them a pleasant smell. While my husband isn't usually one for skincare I can definitely see him using one of these to freshen up his face after a long day.

Gents Essentials Roll Up Checkers and Chess Game

Our family loves to play games and this on-the-go checkers board is such a great item! I don't know how to play chess, so this will strictly be used for checkers, but I love how all of the little pieces fit inside of the zippered end and that everything rolls up so compactly since they just printed the chess figures on the round pieces. This is one of those innovative box items that my husband and I really enjoy receiving. Although this one did have a very strong odor when I first opened it up. I am letting it air out outside and I think it's starting to smell better already!

Verdict:  This Outdoorsman Edition of the Premium Gentleman’s Box was fitting for my husband, and really for my whole family! There were some great unique items, like the hammock with the net and the roll-up checkers set, while the blanket and knife are incredibly useful and the wipes felt like a nice bonus item that made sense in this box. I know not everyone is the camping and outdoors type, but I think the value was there for this $100 box (with free shipping). As for the value hitting that over $300 mark, the only retail value I could verify was for the face wipes, but a quick search for some similar items gets us well over the $100 mark, which I'm happy with.

While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!

I cancelled this subscription for my husband once the spoilers were revealed. We have been disappointed in the last couple of boxes and this one would have been yet another disappoitment. To me, the value is not there. The last several boxes have been underwhelming in terms of value and in terms of curation. How many men really want a picnic blanket and a travel chess/checker set? I’m glad your man is satisfied with the box but my city slicker husband would not have enjoyed a single item in the overpriced box.

I agree I also canceled this box! The last 3!! Have been total crap! I also don’t see the value and would have not enjoyed any item on this one or the last few ones! I cancels the one for December as well until I see what it is if it’s crap like these last ones I’ll be canceling all my boxes with gentleman’s box and only using the other men’s subscription service box

Thanks for the review! I’ve been debating this specific box for my husband. I tried asking gentleman’s box on IG for specs on the hammock and got no response and the company that makes it seems brand new with no website so I’m a bit wary of signing up.

It’s definitely tricky with a new company and no reviews on the product! I’m sorry that you weren’t able to get a response from customer service about it – hopefully this helped! Thanks for reading! 🙂

I received this, because I completely forgot to cancel. You have to call to cancel the subscription, which annoys me. I’ve also received zero emails from them, since my last box 6 months ago, and no reminder to cancel. So I’m really disappointed in the company itself.

The items are nice, though. The knife is great, and heavy. And incredibly sharp. It’s funny, because the booklet listed ways to use the knife, and one of them was, you could use it to remove splinters in your finger! And, we were like, yeah . . . and accidentally cut your finger off in the process! 😳

I didn’t realize that the blanket is hand wash only, that’s pretty silly. I love the pattern and feel of it.

Sorry about your experience with the order! Hopefully you’re able to enjoy the items – although I definitely don’t recommend the knife for splinter removal! Lol.

I did actually wash the blanket on delicate and hung it to dry and it held up! 👏🏻😊
