Took the plunge. This makes advent calendar number 7. I couldn’t resist, all the gifts look lovely

Liesl

Which 7 did you order?

I’ve purchased the Kiehl’s, and plan to purchase Beekman 1802. Beyond that, maybe a food advent calendar?

I saw several Advent calendars on the Boots website, but they do not ship to the USA. So disappointing.

Lana

I’d get it for $200, but the shipping really blows the budget here

Ashley

I think this is a pretty large package to ship overseas. I know I’ve shipped items in MSA swaps to Canada that were about the same.

tracy

what do you get if you don’t choose makeup?

TRACY MANTY

bought this for a close friend. indulgent but she’s super generous. i bought it without makeup so I hope there are good substitutions for her! Love the no plastic and love the donation component as well!

Ashley

Yeah, I would agree that it’s indulgent…but the price of not dining out or doing normal activities, makes up for it. I just wish the US would get on board. Love Goodly has a platform of giving back. I’m not sure if they are in business still.

…And all the holiday get togethers and parties we won’t be attending this year. ..a nice advent calendar provides a little bit of fun each day in December.

I imagine this year’s advent calendars were already in production when the pandemic hit. I wonder what sorts of changes next year’s advent calendars will hold… more stay-at-home, indulgent, pamper yourself? Scaled down due to a depressed economy?

Will any of the advent calendars that usually sell out not sell out this year?

Jackie

This looks stunning, I wish there was something comparable sold in the US. That $50 shipping is just too much for me on top of the base price.

I took the plunge. This is right up my alley as far as the type of product’s and the full on message it sends. I know this is out of most people’s price range, and understandably, but I’m a nurse who’s had a rough several months, and wanted to treat myself. The product’s look amazing. Zero plastic packaging, the calendar itself is gorgeous and will definitely be reused to store small items, the makeup items look amazing, and most importantly, the three charities you are supporting. I love this concept. Watch the unboxing with Sammy Lou; very thorough and thoughtful; had me in tears especially when she talked about one of the charities. So, in my opinion, it’s worth it to me. But to each is own. I love seeing everyone’s input.

I really liked the packaging as well. And the candy they featured looked really yummy.

I didn’t catch the names of the charities. Would like to research them before I purchased the calendar and “donated”. There are so many terrible charities, and I’ve been burned before, that I research beforehand.

Ashley

There are three charities. I don’t remember the specific names, but the gist was no animal testing related to Covid, a charity to providing food, and giving to a farm sanctuary, which is what drew me to this. The story is heartwarming. And mind you, this is in the UK. I would love if sub boxes did stuff like this in the US in the future. I would totally support.

Liesl

Good for you for treating yourself during a rough year! It’s a beautiful calendar, and Sammy Lou did a great job with the unboxing. Some of the unboxing videos I’ve seen have been…annoying…for lack of a better word.

This is a nice looking one that’s unique. It’s not worth the price to me.

There are some reasonably priced advent calendars, such as Nivea, Dove, and Soap & Glory, that are only available in the U.K. I don’t know why these brands, that sell high quantities in the US, don’t also offer these calendars in the US.

(I did email Nivea last year asking if they would sell their calendars in the US, and received a very curt and unfriendly “No”. )

Neutrogena and Olay should also offer advent calendars as a way to get customers to try their many different product lines.

Ashley

Nivea and Dove are a far cry from what this calender is. You can’t compare.

Reply ButtonReply

Liesl

So true! It wasn’t meant to be a comparison.

Yves Rocher has an advent calendar (24 items) for $69 (free shipping in the US and probably in Canada too). Full spoilers on their website. Combination of hair, makeup, body, skincare, and fragrance. You also get two gifts with purchase (the first gift is your choice of three options). The second gift right now is a bag duo.

I’ve been a YR customer since 1999. I’m skipping their advent calendar because I just bought the Birchbox annual for $100 and I want to get the Allure annual for $165, which they’ve extended. YR is not what it used to be, but still a VERY good deal if you’re itching for a beauty advent calendar and have $69 to spare!

Lana

Makenzie – they extended for existing monthly subscribers. Maybe if you call and ask, they’d give you the discount too (if you’re a new sub)

Kathleen

Thanks, Dea, this sounds cool.

Dea

Makenzie, the “oops” email they sent a day or two ago says that they extended it. They better have told the truth this time LOL!

Makenzie

Have they extended the allure $165 deal? On their website it says $250 for an annual.

Lana

You don’t get any tax back shipping to US?

Reply ButtonReply

Kathleen

Lana, I checked and it would be $241 total if I had one sent to me on the East Coast. I sent one to my sis in England and the shipping to her was free. We can’t all fly to be together this Christmas, so I figured this would be a fun gift for her since nothing’s gonna be very traditional for us this year.

Alice

I l9ve the concept. If it was in the hundred dollar range with free shipping I would purchase.

Reply ButtonReply

Carmen

I love the idea of this calendar but it is a little bit too expensive for me.

Reply ButtonReply

Kathleen

I watched the unboxing video (linked on their site) and a lot of the items are pretty high-value and at least deluxe sample to full size, plus a few items (ornaments that are also seed-growing paper) represent charity donations. I think this calendar is a good value–and no wasteful packaging! I am sending one to my sister in England. If she winds up loving any of these brands, she can prob find them over there.

The box itself is gorgeous, and at least full size are included—but the shipping is ridiculous.

I’m definitely keeping my eye on this, maybe it will go on sale with reduced shipping.

Let’s be nostalgic for a bit… remember when advent calendars were so fun and cute little surprises to give your day just a bit of extra happiness? Smack, down goes that reality. Why are we spending a fortune on samples and brands we aren’t sure about (if we love them, we are already buying their full size equivalent at a better price than an advent calendar). I want something in an affordable price range that is either exciting or useable. My best option is the sock calendars from target! My kids get the best overall with LEGO calendars 🤦🏻‍♀️

Bee

How many posts did you put this on? I count at least three so far.

Reply ButtonReply

Nat

Yeahp, I saw 3. And it’s same thing. Just copy and paste.

Joy-Not the Other One

Wow! I truly hope you have a better day Bee. 🙂

HeatherK

There was a golden age of advent calendars, where they were just starting to get some variety but the prices were still low. That age has passed, I’m afraid.

I know! I remember when it was fun and exciting and reasonably priced adventure picking out which ones to buy. Advent calendars have become extravagant gifts that far exceed my gifting budget. I bet those who get this will love it though.
