Fortune Cookie Soap “Cereal Killer” September 2020 Review

Here is the info sheet for this month's box.

Dead And Breakfast Body Milk, 2 oz

I am always down for a lightweight body lotion because that means less time I have to spend rubbing it in – sometimes I really just can’t be bothered. This has notes of fruit loops “drowning in coconut milk” and it smells as good as you think it would. Plus, the milky texture sank into my post-shower skin fast and left me ready to get back to my favorite activity, doing absolutely nothing.

Hellraisin Bran Deep Conditioner, 2.1 oz - Estimated Value $12.99 (based on the deep conditioner available in a different scent here)

Oh boy, was I stoked when I pulled this out. I love the deep conditioner from Fortune Cookie Soap and have re-purchased multiples from FCS over the years, so getting this full-size in the monthly box made this an automatic win. If you’ve never used it before this is definitely a heavier deep conditioner, but after a few minutes of soaking in my strands, it’s much easier to comb through any tangles my curls have gotten themselves into. Plus, the smell of rum raisins, caramel cream, and maple syrup is a tasty combination that smelled even better once the heat from the shower water warmed up the scent.

Cookies & Scream Foaming Sugar Scrub, 1 oz

I’m a fan of sugar scrubs, especially on the parts of my body that are touched by other humans. Since the size is small I used this on my legs and upper thighs, and I enjoyed the way the scrub got sudsy when mixed with a little warm water. The scrub itself was more mild than harsh, which was exactly what I needed. The smell of chocolate, marshmallow, and pound cake didn’t really give me cookies and cream vibes, but it did leave my skin softer and smelling like a snack so I’m not mad.

Psych-O’s Wax Tart

I use candles way more than I do wax melts, but this adorable spoon fits the theme of this month's box so perfectly I have the strong urge to melt it just to finish the "Cereal Killer" experience. Plus, I definitely wouldn’t mind having my kitchen (where I usually use wax melts because I don’t have a wax burner) smell like green apple, nutmeg, and brown sugar.

The Verdict: I have been reviewing Fortune Cookie Soap for years and I think this is one of the best monthly boxes I’ve received from them. From the curation to the packaging, to the scents and the names of the products, this really was a well-thought-out home run. Plus, did I mention I love that deep conditioner? FCS killed it with this one – and has anyone else started playing “Among Us?” I’ve become obsessed, and this packaging really makes me think of the fun mafia-style game.

I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

I am so confused with the timing of the charges for this box. Customer service said that they charge a month in advance, but I was charged twice already and haven’t received a single box. Can someone confirm if this is customary for them to do?

The other Lee

I had the same situation. I just got my shipping notification today.

I believe this is customary, yes. I was charged in mid-August for a September box and then again in mid-September for the October box before I received anything. They start shipping around the 12th of the month and it takes them a day or two to get all the orders out. I bet you’ll be getting your October box this week if all goes well and they get them shipped tomorrow/Tuesday (mine arrived the day after I got my shipping notification in September!).

This was an excellent box and I love all the products in this. I bought full size products of three of the scents and they are all lovely.

Has anyone gotten their coupon code?

Tiffany

I got mine on 9/18 for September that is valid until 10/16. I haven’t gotten one for October’s box.

Tiffany

It came in an email.

Sophie

Tiffany, did you get your code in an email or did it come in your box?

Jen

If I can ever get through my stash of products, this will be my next sub box. I usually do the Easter, Halloween and Advent boxes and they are always awesome. So sad they are not doing the Advent box this year (darn you covid!!) Their deep conditioner is the most amazing product for my dry, dry hair. And their CS is great – they always respond quickly and are helpful and friendly!

I just signed out for this. I am kinda of bummed I did not get this box, I hope the October box is awesome!

I just got my October box and it is amazing!!!! All the items are super useful and there’s no propene glycol in this month!

Boxtopus!

This box looks fantastic! I don’t subscribe to FCS, but it’s on my list to get in a year or so. I haven’t played Among Us because I’m too obsessed with Fall Guys. Season 2 dropped today, and I can’t wait to try it!

This is my new favorite sub. I am obsessed! Love the uniqueness of it! So excited for October!

FCS is my favorite sub box, hands down. This one seemed to arrive a bit late, but was worth the wait. I found the body milk to be too runny for my overly dry skin, but had one of my favorite scents to date! I agree with you, their deep conditioner is the best! I have never skipped a month and can’t imagine cancelling. I also enjoyed my Halloween box and was bummed to hear that there will be no FCS Christmas advent calendar this year.🙁

Can anyone with experience with this box tell me if the products in the review are the same as those in the box? I recently purchased a sub solely on the contents reviewed on MSA, only to receive fewer items (one was missing entirely), and the one product that I wanted to try was substituted with a tiny container of some nasty-smelling body cream. Needless to say, I’m never bothering with that sub again, and I am now wary of these smaller subs (the customer no-service was awful).

Flora

Which sub was that?
Mine was exactly the same as MSA but my spoon was broken in half (not a huge deal for me since it will be melted anyway).

Aimee

Customer service is excellent for fortune cookie soap. I had something spill in a box previously and they very quickly sent out a replacement. Been very happy with this subscription

Penny

I’ve always received the exact same items reviewed on MSA. Some of the items, especially the whipped body cream, are on the small size, but this sub seems like a great value for the money in my opinion. On a side note, I’ve had to reach out to customer service once or twice regarding orders not related to my sub box and have found them to be pretty helpful. A great company to deal with in my opinion.👍

Melly

Mine was exactly the same as in the review.

Tiffany

Try using the Body Milk on damp skin right after bathing. I find it works similarly to their Shower Oil.

Penny

Thanks for the advice! Maybe on slightly damp skin it will have better staying power for me. I went to slather it on and made quite the mess of it, very thin.😜 Smells amazing, though!

Sharon in SE TX

I like that the items included weren’t too scary or gory.

Oh man, I have been trying *so* hard to pare back on sub boxes and not add them (I have So. Much. Product.), but this box seems so fun and is getting harder and harder to resist!

Tiffany

I’ve stopped getting it twice and always miss it. It’s one of my favorites, and I’ll get rid of other boxes before this one in the future. I really like and prefer a lot of their products to others from similar brands, so having the monthly sub makes sense for me because I get to sample the fragrances before purchasing full sizes. And, the $10 coupon code each month pays for the shipping on whatever I want to buy full size. I do end up purchasing full sizes most months because I want my favorite products in the scents offered that month. It’s definitely added to the product overload, but I love the option to choose whatever scent I want that day. It’s a silly spot of pure joy for me each day.

Melly

I felt the same way, but the waitlist opened and I went ahead and did it. I don’t regret it one bit. This month’s box was amazing, I am waiting for a full-size of that lotion, who knew I wanted to smell like fruit loops all day? lol! It’s amazing! The month before was based on the Princess Bride and I was just in love with everything! Just do it!

Melly

OK, not sure if I am responding correctly here, but thank you for the heads up about In the Loop! I already added a few things. I have always wanted to try their shampoo bar, so this may be the scent that finally makes me do it.

Tiffany

Their fragrance “In the Loop” is even more fruit loopy and it’s usually available in select products. Just search “In the Loop” on their site to see what’s available.

Katrina

oh my, what a fun box!
