BoxyLuxe September 2020 Review

Now, on to the items!

Kate Somerville ExfoliKate® Intensive Pore Exfoliating Treatment, 2 oz – Retail Value $85.00

This is the second tube of this I have gotten recently, but you will get no complaints from me. This is one of my favorite exfoliants! This green goo has tons of little micro scrubbers that really do a great job of scrubbing dead skin off of your face. I like to apply in small circles all over my face and rub for about a minute, then immediately wash off. The directions indicate you can leave it on your face for around 2 minutes, but since my skin is dry I skip that last step and wash straight off. This treatment is a combo of manual exfoliation from those little crystals as well as chemical exfoliation from the lactic acid and fruit enzymes inside. If you have normal or oilier skin, try leaving this on for a little after that massage! My skin always looks and feels so great after this treatment. Because it is super effective, I generally don't use it more than 1-2 times a week. I always seem to have extra congestion around my nose and jaw right now though, so I have been sneaking in a little extra step in just those areas if my face is looking a little crazy.

HipDot 'Zion' Eyeshadow Palette – Retail Value $30.00

When I first pulled this palette out to test it, it had been in my cold car for a few hours and wasn't performing well. I decided to give it a day in my home to come to a normal temp and I am glad I did! These colors are so bold and pigmented. In fact, the only shade that wasn't impressive in terms of payoff and texture was 'Majesty'. In a palette of 15 shades, finding only one lacking is pretty impressive. This was also that rare sort of palette where the mattes outperform the shimmers. Seriously, these mattes are kind of nuts, especially the 'Maze' shade. 'Wanderlust' was another total knockout. They have a bit of fallout in the pan, but I can forgive that. I was really thrilled to see the lilac shade perform so well because I feel that particular color is hard to really do well in shadows in general, especially in a matte finish. This mix of oranges, pinks, and purples aren't going to be for everyone, but I am kind of really feeling them and think they are an incredible complement to my recent fave Spanglish palette!

Top to bottom: Sandstone, Virgin, Canyon, Maze, and Surreal

Top to bottom: Wanderlust, Grounded, Angel's Landing, Wild River, Whisper

Top to bottom: Sublime, Narrows, Majesty, Mystery, and Vibration

Persona Lip Gloss in 'Honey', 6 mL – Retail Value $16.00

This was another new brand for me, and right off the bat, I thought the packaging was really pretty. The nude gloss inside is one of those shades that anyone could pull off well. It has enough pink/peach to suit fair tones but is warm enough to work on deeper tones as well. There is a very, very subtle shimmer to this formula and it smells like sweets and vanilla. The formula is heavier but not sticky, and the applicator is one of those with two flat sides, making application a breeze.

I like it!

Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in 'Afternoon Snack / Mo' Hunny' - Retail Value $36.00

Fenty Beauty always gets me excited! The packaging and the Riri hype makes this one of my faves. I always feel a little cooler wearing something from Fenty. Anyways, this is a duo highlighter in a warm champagne shade. The compact is a very subtle pearl white and has a mirror inside. One side of the powders is a little darker and smoother, while the second is more of a chunky metallic. These shades are a little too bronze for me to use as highlighters, but dang do they look great on my lids! In typical Fenty fashion, they are both smooth as butter and wildly pigmented.

Top to bottom: Afternoon Snack, Mo' Hunny

MILK MAKEUP Melatonin Overnight Serum, 1 oz – Retail Value $36.00

This is another one of those effortlessly cool brands that I enjoy a lot! I can't remember if I have ever tried a stick serum but I find the idea kind of genius. If you have ever attempted to do your night routine while already laying down in bed, you understand me here! After cleansing and toning, simply apply this stick to your face and massage in. Literally, that's it! This isn't going to be a super performance sort of serum but it does have hyaluronic acid, lavender, and some antioxidants inside. It smells like relaxing lavender and feels great on my skin, kind of like a very thin balm. I noticed my face looked less red and felt very smooth after using this for a few nights in a row, though some of that might also be due to my nightly cream which I use as a final step before sleeping. I think this is probably ideal for someone who doesn't have super dry skin or who doesn't yet have fine lines, but it was still a really cool product that I was very happy to see in my box.

PÜR Signature Travel Essentials Brush Set - Retail Value $49.00

I am going to admit that even I was a little overwhelmed by this brush set. It has TWELVE brushes inside. Even as a self-proclaimed brush-hoarder, I only travel with maybe 2-3? These cute pink brushes arrived in their own travel case to keep them safe. This case also functions as a brush holder for your away-from-home vanity set up. These brushes are all cruelty-free and feature rose gold accents than suit the cute pink handles really well!

111SKIN Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Masks, set of 5 - Retail Value $135.00

111Skin is one of those super pricy brands where the products I find a little hit or miss. These sheet masks were a hit, though I was disappointed to see alcohol as one of the ingredients. It is pretty far down on the list though, so don't let me saying that dissuade you from trying these out! There are also loads of great things like hyaluronic acid, cica, and collagen within these masks too. The mask itself is a thicker gel that fits my face well and is super cooling. My face looked bright and glowing when I removed this after 20 minutes. While I would NEVER pay $135 for any sheet mask set, these Korean made masks felt very luxe and fun.

Billion Dollar Beauty Sponge - Retail Value $15.00

My last item is something I have quite a few of, but honestly, these make a really great sort of stocking stuffer! We do stockings with Will's family every year and of course, my mind is in holiday gifting mode. These little sponges are great for applying primers and liquid foundations, but my fave use is to get one a little damp then use it to pat on a powder highlighter. Pure dewiness!

Verdict: The total retail value of this BoxyLuxe was around $402 which is awesome for a $49.99 box. I thought this was a pretty great month filled with brands I already know and love, along with a few little surprises. I am really happy with an extra tube of Exfolikate, loved the bright palette, and enjoyed the Milk serum stick. I also enjoyed the pretty lip gloss, Fenty highlighter, and mask set. I plan on gifting the brush set and sponge this holiday season.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but you can claim a spot for the December BoxyLuxe box by upgrading your BoxyCharm subscription in your account section.

Value Breakdown: At $49.99, here is what you are paying approximately per item:

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

OMG that palette is calling my name. Those mattes are just gorgeous, I love how there are 10 mattes and only 5 shimmers (I can’t do shimmers). I might just buy the palette – maybe try to find it on ebay/Mercari/etc.

BEAUTIFUL!

I got the same box. I loved it but gave away the palette because I already have six open. I adore the lipgloss.

Your review of the Zion palette has convinced me to open it for myself instead of giving it away. I do like some of the shades but I was worried bout the pigment and performance since I’m unfamiliar with the brand and somewhat burned out on eyeshadow palettes right now. The swatches really look nice and I’m happy to hear there is only 1 shade in the entire palette that doesn’t perform as well as the others.

Great review! I’m now officially excited to play with a new palette instead of being bah humbug about it.

I think I’m gifting the brush set. I have a million amazing brushes and the quality of the brushes themselves didn’t look top notch to me. It is super cute though and I know a couple of ladies who would love it.

I (along with many, MANY others) have yet to receive my Luxe box that I paid for back on Sept 4th. Boxy says they are shipping replacements, but I have recieved nothing yet. The latest response from them is they might not have enough replacements to send out since SO many people did not receive their boxes. They are refusing refunds, and instead sending leftover products. I canceled, and am continuing to push for a refund on the box I never received. They are not responding to emails. I am about to escalate the issue with my bank.
