Basic Man September 2020 Review

White Tee, Size M - Listed Value $16.00 (Similar style in Grey)

You can't get more basic than a plain white tee. Typically I stay away from white clothes because I'm sure to dirty them up immediately. However, this shirt fits like a dream. So I'm wearing it straight out of the bag. I like that it's a little longer. That makes for a poor undershirt, but this is a cool, simple shirt that is meant to be worn by itself or maybe an open flannel. This shirt is comfortable and soft, made from 100% cotton.

Blue Polka Dot Socks - Retail Value $12.00

I dig these light blue socks with dark blue polka dots and accents. Most formal socks I have would leave it at that, but there are green and white rings around the toes and a sort of faded line along the sides. Looking at past Basic Man reviews, I see Basic Man does this quite a bit and I love the extra detail. They are made from a blend of 80% combed cotton, 17% polyester, and 3% elastic. They come up about 3/4th the way to my knee. I'm 5'9".

Light Blue Boxer Briefs - Listed Value $15.00 (Similar pair in Aqua)

I have these on and I've got to tell you, they're great. They are so silky soft and the mesh makes them very breathable. I enjoy the length and cut. And I just can't tell you how much I like the plain elastic band. I look forward to getting a few more pairs of these. They are made from 95% bamboo viscose and 5% elastane.

Verdict: This was my first Basic Man box and I really enjoyed it. I would describe myself as a basic kind of guy – one that doesn't like shopping for clothes. So these items were right up my alley. I appreciate any company that refrains from plastering their name or logo all over its clothes. Also, I like the "recycle when this fades" note on each of the items. The total value of the items is $43. That is more than twice the cost of the box, although $12 for a pair of socks seems a little high to me. Regardless, it's a fantastic value for the money and you don't even have to leave your house. I'm eager to see how Basic Man remains basic without getting boring.

So happy to see a man reviewing this man’s box – welcome Carlos! We love this sub which I’ve been sending to my now-junior year son in college. He loves the t-shirts, loves the boxer briefs and, while the socks are far more tame and, dare I say, boring than his extensive collection, they are high quality and wear well.

As for the socks price seeming high, we’ve gotten a lot of his novelty socks through HotSox and their men’s socks are $12/pair when they’re not on sale so this price point seems about right.

FWIW, we get this as a 6-month sub so that we don’t have to do a change of address during the school year and that works well because he doesn’t seem to need 12 new t’s, briefs, or socks per year.

Glad to be here. I guess what I was saying about the socks is that they are a little contradictory. Either they are “basic” and therefore, as a basic man, I wouldn’t pay $12 for one pair. Or they are a nice pair worthy of the $12 price tag, but therefore not “basic.” Does that make sense? Perhaps I’m getting too hung up on the word “basic.” Perhaps I’m a little TOO basic. Having said all this, the socks are very nice and I still think this is a great subscription. Thanks for commenting.

Great review Carlos! I’ve never heard of this box, but I’m thinking both my hubby and teenage boy might enjoy it. I seem to always be buying socks for one of them….how do you guys get holes in them so fast?! I may never know….
I’ll look forward to reading more reviews from you!

It’s a good set of clothes. The shirt is great and the boxes are good for the price. I would say don’t sign up just for the socks, if that is what you’re concerned yourself about. One, they’re formal socks and little on the pricey side, if your men are getting holes in their’s so often. Two, you’re probably better off just buying a cheap pack of socks. Guys don’t care. However, if you’re looking for all three items, it’s a good investment, I think. Thanks for commenting.

My boyfriend says the underwear and t-shirts are the most comfortable he’s worn. You should give it a try.
