Keto Krate August 2020 Review

I am happy to report that two months after my gallbladder removal, I have been able to slowly shifting towards a lower carb, higher fat diet successfully! While I am not quite as low carb as I used to be, I have seemingly found a happy medium that has me seeing results while not being quite so restrictive. Like always, I am on the lookout for new treats to keep this lifestyle exciting, and this month's box included some keepers!! Come along to discover which snacks I'll be adding to my online shopping cart!

I always find the included pamphlets entertaining. I love the funny comics and the awesome success stories. There is nothing more motivating than seeing the results of other people! This fun informational guide also features recipes, inspirational quotes, the link's to the month's product info (krate.club), and tips on how to manage your subscription.

While I have never received a coupon in this subscription before, this month we received two Primal Kitchen coupons for $5 collagen fuel, $1 off any condiment, dressing, or sauce, and $2 off any one Primal Kitchen meal or frozen bowl.

Peanut Butter and Raspberry Atlas Bar - Buy 15 bars for $39.95

Fat 11g | Net Carbs 5g | Taste Score: 9/10

I am a peanut butter and jelly addict. Pre-keto, I took a PB & J sandwich to work every day. Obviously, that is no longer the case, so receiving this peanut butter and raspberry bar had me excited! The bar itself was dense and thick, but the flavor was spot on. The peanut butter was perfectly creamy with bits of peanuts throughout, and while it wasn't as sweet as a tub of Jif, the raspberries sprinkled throughout the bar gave it the perfect bit of sweetness. I really enjoyed the fact that it left me feeling satisfied with no funny aftertaste. The package also mentioned that the adaptogen of Organic KSM-66 Ashwagandha is added to this bar to help battle stress and fatigue, plus assist with endurance, burning fat, and building muscle. After one bar I didn't notice a decrease in stress or fatigue, but after doing a little research on Ashwagandha my interest has been piqued and I may have to look more into it!

Kiss My Keto Butter Cookies - Buy a 2 pack for $9.99

Fat 13g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 10/10

I've tried my fair share of keto cookie; some have been decent, some have been terrible. While I have tried peanut butter cookies and chocolate chip, I have never experienced a butter-flavored keto cookie. I am delighted to announce that these cookies are AMAZING! The light chewy texture is just what I look for in a cookie, and the sweet, buttery flavor is a bit like a highly textured shortbread cookie, but low carb!! Hank and Charlie asked if they could try a cookie, and while they don't follow a low carb diet, they loved these cookies and asked for seconds, so I consider that a win!!

Perfect Keto Snickerdoodle Nut Butter - Buy a 2 pack for $16.99

Fat 17g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 8/10

Check out this interesting package! Here we have a resealable pouch of snickerdoodle nut butter. This nut butter is loaded with almonds, coconut, macadamia nuts, erythritol, MCT oil, cashews, cinnamon, and sea salt. All you do is gently knead the pouch to mix, and add it cookies, celery, or anything else you would normally spread peanut butter on for a low carb, tasty addition! I mixed the pouch really well, but still found the butter to be a bit more runny than traditional peanut butter. The flavor was everything though! It was obviously nutty, but that hint of cinnamon really spiced things up to create a really delicious addition to my celery snack! Plus, the squeeze pouch makes application a heck of a lot easier and cleaner! I definitely wouldn't be upset if they send some of the other flavors to us in the future!

SPORTea, 1 pack - Buy a case for $12.29

Fat 0g | Net Carbs 0g

Growing up I was surrounded by tea drinkers. When we would go to my grandma's for a visit, the table would be arranged with mouth-watering desserts and beautiful vintage teacups. While I would eat all of the desserts, I never got into drinking tea, so while this packet of energizing and stress-fighting tea sounds amazing, I will be passing it onto my mom who will enjoy it much more than I will! This tea can be enjoyed both hot or iced, and suggests that it is delicious without lemon or sweetener.

Coconut Cocoa Chip Munk Pack Bar - Buy a 12 pack for $24.99

Fat 13g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

Now, this is the kind of bar I love. This low carb granola bar is filled with almonds, coconut, and unsweetened chocolate (which surprised me because the top didn't have a speck of chocolate!) It was perfectly chewy with the best texture and was perfectly sweet without tasting fake or flavorless. I would happily have put this in my purse for an emergency snack, but found it way too tasty and ate the entire thing during my box tasting!

Sea Salt Skuta Pumpkin Seeds - Buy a 6 pack for $24.99

Fat 19g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 20/10

In previous reviews, I have mentioned that I grow pumpkins to sell each fall, and with that, I have made my fair share of pumpkin seeds. I love trying new flavor combinations for my seeds, but they have never come out like this. These are honestly the best pumpkin seeds I have ever eaten in my life. These almost black seeds are cooked double-slow, and dry roasted for nutty richness. When you bite into them there is no tough shell, but a hollow inside. They are perfectly salty and absolutely addicting! Plus the bag itself is resealable so they are perfect on the go. While my kids and husband enjoyed their sunflower seeds while we were catfishing, I brought this little pouch and found all three guys sneaking into my bag instead of theirs! This sea salt variety was amazing, and I see they also have a chili-maple flavor which I must get my hands on!!

Primal Kitchen Mint Chip Protein Bar - Buy a 12 pack for $32.95 (currently on sale for $23.95)

Fat 16g | Net Carbs 4g | Taste Score: 2/10

Mint and chocolate are one of my favorite combinations when it comes to ice cream, but after trying it in protein bar form, I have decided I just am not a fan. This tiny protein bar is packed with 8 grams of protein and is gluten- and grain-free, which are lovely things, but in tasting this bar I found it to have a gritty texture, a potent unsweetened cocoa flavor, and wayyy too strong of a natural mint flavor. I really wanted to like this bar, but just couldn't even take another bite.

Primal Kitchen Collagen Peptides - Buy a 1.2 lb canister for $34.95

Fat 0g | Net Carbs 0g | Taste Score: No Taste

I have a little experience with collagen, but not a ton. This unflavored variety can be added to just about anything, even baked goods, which I never even thought of! I love the effects these collagen peptides have on my hair and nails, but just hadn't found a way I really enjoyed them, so the baked good tip will be used with this little package!

Creamy Peanut Butter and Sea Salt Raw Rev Bar - Buy 12 bars for $26.99

Fat 11g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 9/10

I am so excited about there being so much peanut butter this month! This creamy peanut butter bar with sea salt is made of organic ingredients like peanuts, pea protein, brown rice protein, flax seeds, and chia seeds. It has a nice chewy texture with ample peanut butter flavoring that left me full and satisfied. I loved the addition of the chia seeds for the boost of protein. This small bar is packed with 15 grams of protein which is amazing! My husband is going out West this fall, and has asked me to order him a case of these for his pack!

Country Archer Pineapple Pork Stick - Buy in a trial pack for $9.00

Fat 7g | Net Carbs 2g | Taste Score: 10/10

I've never had a pineapple-flavored meat stick, so I was pretty excited to give this one a shot, and I gotta say I'm pretty impressed! This pineapple pork stick at first tastes like a traditional meat stick, with a juicy meaty texture that you can bite into easily, but is followed by a lightly sweet hint of pineapple. It is not enough to easily detect, but is just enough to sweeten up the stick and leave you wanting more. The kids and I thought this was excellent!

Quevos Dill Pickle Egg Whites - Buy a 12 pack for $29.99

Fat 10g | Net Carbs 4g | Taste Score: 10/10

Seriously!! These egg white crisps are AMAZING!! Sometimes I just want a chip...or a cracker, or some other carby snack that will lead me to eating the whole bag. These have come to my rescue! I have tried versions of these before and fell in love and am soooo happy they sent this variety! Now I'm not the biggest fan of dill pickle chips, but these crackers are delish. The texture is perfectly crunchy and crisp, while the flavor is just strong enough to leave me wanting more. With 8 grams of protein, I feel good about eating these, and my kids even enjoyed them. Win, win, win!

Sweetwood Smokehouse Jalapeno Meat Stick - Buy a pack of 20 for $60.00

Fat 8g | Net Carbs 1g | Taste Score: 10/10

Hooray for more meat sticks! Like I have mentioned in the past, my kids hover over my shoulder while I unpackage this box waiting for the unveiling of the meat sticks. This month we received a version of a brand we have received in the past, but in jalapeno flavor. I love a little spice, so I was excited to give this one a try, and I wasn't disappointed. The chewiness of the meat and the high heat of the jalapeno left me in search of a glass of water (but in a good way!) While I enjoyed this heat, Hank thought it was a bit too spicy, which meant I got the rest of the stick to myself!

Hilo Life Super Cheesy Snack Mix - Buy a 6 pack for $14.94

Fat 20g | Net Carbs 3g | Taste Score: 10/10

This snack mix includes crispy cheddar cheese bites and almonds for a deliciously cheesy snack! The cheddar cheese bites are perfectly crunchy and tangy, without being so pungent that they aren't enjoyable. The almonds too are lightly flavored with cheese dust for a great pairing and even better snack! Even my non-keto family couldn't resist these!

The Verdict: I really enjoy the Keto Krate box, but this month blew it out of the water! Most months there are a few items that just didn't do it for me, but this month I only had one and a half miss—that mint chocolate bar and the tea—so I am extremely pleased! I have discovered so many tasty snacks through this box that I would have never given a chance to as they are mostly found online or they have to be bought in bulk which can be reallllly expensive if you don't know that you'll love it. The curation this month was awesome, and I loved the variety they sent; it was both exciting and tasty! I hope next month is just as good!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Unfortunately, no. If you subscribe today, your first box will be the September box.

Value Breakdown: The box costs $39.99 + free shipping which means that each of the 13 items in the box has an average cost of $3.07. I also want to share that on their website, it states the retail value of this month's products is $40.96, but you would pay $74.08 in shipping costs for each product, plus you would have to spend $50.86 to get the discount code savings of minimum orders for each product, which would bring your total value to $165.90, so I think $39.99 is a pretty good price to test out different snacks and find new faves!

I like those RawRev bars. (I do not eat anything remotely approaching a keto diet.) I have ordered boxes of them before. They do not do so well in the heat, they get really melty (well, the chocolate bits do) and are kind of hard to resolidify. That hasn’t really stopped me from buying them, but I tend to limit my orders to cooler months.

Thanks for the tip Ragan! I appreciate the tip about ordering in the cooler months! I have more peanut butter ones coming, but can’t wait to try other flavors!
