Bonjour Jolie July 2020 "Colors of Summer" Review

FYI: Some readers have noted having some issues with getting their boxes as well as some poor experiences with customer service. This doesn't seem to be consistent across the board though and I actually had my own positive interaction with customer service this month (I am signed up independently of MSA, in case you're wondering!).

I received a shipping notification mid-July, but when I checked the tracking and noticed it had no movement, I reached out to customer service (on the 28th) and they responded about 2 hours later to let me know they were checking on it. They followed up 1 hour after that they let me know that they were still investigating but they would be shipping out a replacement box that day and my box arrived less than a week later. I was pretty pleased with how quickly they rectified the situation and this is similar to any experiences I have had in the past with customer service. Please let me know if you experience otherwise! I'm sure other readers will be appreciative! 🙂 Now let's check out the box!

This month's Bonjour Jolie box theme is "Colors of Summer" which feels bright and cheery!

Let's start with the goods. All of your menstrual products will come in a discreet bag that usually fits within our theme. This tye-dye bag is very summery to me!

When you sign up, you can choose up to 20 different menstrual products in any combination of tampons, pads, and liners. They offer a great selection of items from brands like Always, Kotex, and OB. You can check their selection out before you commit though, in case you are someone who has a preferred brand.

You can change your selections at any time by editing your profile, but keep in mind there might be a delay if you need to switch up your needs each month. The ability to switch it up is what I really like about this box and the fact that you can try new things without committing to an entire box of products.

Seventh Generation Ultra-Thin Regular Pads (20) - Buy 36 for $7.99

This month I went with all pads.

Goodwipes Down There Wipes in Sensual Seduction (2) - Buy 4 packs of 16 for $11.99.

I enjoyed the Classy & Sassy title on these wipes, but I'm not so sure about the "sensual seduction" part! Haha. They do have notes of amber, rosewood, and vetiver, plus these hypoallergenic, pH-balanced wipes are 100% biodegradable.

Advil To-Go Packs (2) – Buy 50 2-packs for $8.20

These little packets each have two pills, just enough to help with cramps or headaches while on the go.

Two Cloth Face Masks by Amira Sews – Listed Value $25.00

Well, I knew it was only a matter of time before a face mask arrived in one of my boxes. These 100% cotton masks come in two different sizes and fun tye-dye patterns. They are hand-sewn and while there is a website listed on them, nothing came up when I tried to link to it.

*Update 8/12/2020: The website does appear to be working now!

The rainbow mask is the smaller of the two and it still fits pretty comfortably. I think the pattern is really fun!

Since my head is larger in size, this one fit me a little better. I think this pattern is fun, too, and a bit more subtle.

Nyah's Dream Whipped Body Butter, 6 oz - Retail Value $15.00

Our next colorful item is this generous 6-ounce tub of whipped body butter. The scent is supposed to be watermelon, although I got more of a general melon scent with a little bit of honeydew and cantaloupe scent in there. It smells good, not too strong, and not super fruity. It absorbs well and definitely left my skin feeling soft and smooth with a faint hint of the scent. It contains shea and cocoa butter, coconut and jojoba oil, vitamin E, aloe, and arrowroot powder in addition to the fragrance oil. Again, there is a website listed, but it didn't take me anywhere. It's a little odd to me when it happens for two of the main products!

*Update 8/12/2020: The website does appear to be working now!

Keebler Chips Deluxe Rainbow Cookies - Buy a 20 count for $7.12

I'll eat pretty much any chocolate chip cookie and these with the mini M&M's were a fun rainbow treat.

The rest of our treats arrived tucked in this mesh bag.

Sour Power Belts, 2 - Listed Value $0.75 (Buy a box of 50 for $15.92)

I have never had these before, but they were pretty good. The strip had a tart fruity flavor and you can see it was coated in sugar. It was definitely a bit too much for me, but these bright rainbow strips did fit our theme well! These come from Holland and are gluten-free, vegan, and non-GMO. I preferred the Quattro flavor over the watermelon.

Twizzlers Rainbow - Listed Value $0.50 (Buy 6 bags of the larger size for $11.88)

Twizzlers are one of those candies that don't actually taste as good in miniature so these rainbow Twizzlers weren't that good to me. They were kind of waxy in texture and lacked flavor. I'd definitely try them in regular size though because the little flavor I could taste wasn't bad!

Rainbow Chewies, 4 packs - Listed Value $0.50 (Buy a bag of 150 for $14.99)

I've never heard of these candies either! They were very similar in texture to Skittles, but not quite as delicious. My daughter was pretty happy with them when I shared them with her though!

Cakebites Ultimate Party Cake - Listed Value $2.00 (Buy 12 packs for $24.00)

This last treat was another new one and it was pretty cute and colorful! This cake was like a grown-up Little Debbie Zebra cake. My husband and I both enjoyed it as the cake was dense and moist and it wasn't overly sweet. I have a real aversion to raspberry, but the tiny layer of raspberry jelly in this was subtle enough that I was still able to eat it without it bothering me. It looks they have so many more flavors like peanut butter with chocolate and lemon. Yum!

Twinings Cold Brew Tea Bags, 4 bags - Buy a 20 ct. box for $3.49

I have been craving some iced tea lately so I was happy to see these iced tea bags. I've never seen these at the store so I was glad to be able to try them and happy that they sent a variety of flavors!

I was in the mood for some peach tea and I thought the teabag worked great in cold water giving it a subtle peach flavor. I'm excited to try the other flavors!

Verdict: This month's Bonjour Jolie box had a bright, fun theme, but I'm not sure that it carried over into the box that well for me. The face masks are useful since there are mandates where I live and I liked the body butter as well as the fact that both are from small businesses. As for the treats, it was definitely a great mix of colorful goodies, but it felt super sugary this month with all the fruity chewy candies and as some readers have mentioned, a little bit of salt at this time of the month would be nice! The total value, using a mix of listed and found retail values, is about $50.74 which is great for a $24.48 ($16.50 + $0.99 tax + $6.99 shipping) box!

Hi everyone!

I too have issues with this company which is a shame as I really like their boxes. I subscribed in May and received one box in July – since then nothing. I also received a pre-shipment e-mail on July 21st and as of today, August 16th, my order is still in pre-shipment. My billing date keeps getting pushed forward, so someone is getting my e-mails. I’m not sure what’s going on, but it is a little nuts. They should just be transparent and let their subscribers know if they are having an issue. They would be surprised how understanding people can be if they are treated respectfully.

Love all your reviews Brandi
I have been getting this box, I think since January. The pandemic definetly slowed shipping on all packages, but I haven’t had any problems with this box or their service. Love that they use small local businesses a lot. I have found some great new products that I love.

I loved this box, it was one of the best the so far. I think April’s box? was pretty awesome too. The adult coloring books and hand sanitizer was spot on and well thought out during quarantine

I have been with them for about 2 years, Never had any problems. Their customer service has always been friendly and easy to deal with for me.

After multiple emails I reached out on social media and now have been blocked. I canceled my subscription and then they finally basically replied with a “sorry you’re impatient”. I would not recommend.

I’m traumatized from their customer service. I didn’t receive the February 2020 box but was charged for it. Once I received the March box I realized that the box wasn’t arriving late as I assumed, but just wasn’t coming. I reached out to customer service and was accused of lying about never receiving the Feb. box. After months of emails, I asked to cancel the subscription and for a refund for the February box. Charlie refused to give me a refund but said I would be receiving a month at no charge. After all the hostile emails from Charlie, I wanted nothing to do with this company and did not want another box from them. I disputed the charges for the month that I didn’t receive with my bank.
Another issue- their cheap “high end” makeup would often be Missing in my boxes and when I would reach out to CS, I would again be accused of lying by Charlie who responds to emails in the most condescending way ever! This was my worst sub box experience ever.

I have had a similar experience. I’ve had at least three boxes’ tracking say they were shipping and then not move at all for more than a month. Several emails went unanswered until I posted on social media. They ended up extending the subscription (which I didn’t want) and none of the hygiene products i’d requested in my profile.

Brandi D.

I’m sorry! Thanks for sharing your experience, Meredith! 🙁

This company’s customer service is the worst. I had three charges since I signed up in May but not a single box by July. I sent a few emails and it took two weeks for a response from the first email I had sent. (I’m sure they must’ve read the others but are just ignoring any and all complaints.) They claimed they had sent out a box but were willing to send a replacement. I then received my first ever shipping information email from them.
So, I now have had one box delivered, there was a second shipping email sent out shortly after the first, but that’s just been sitting in limbo for almost a month.
And the only reason I’m giving them so many chances is because this subscription is for my daughter. (Who loved the July themed box that we had received!) She is a newby to periods and I really wanted to make this a pleasant experience for her. I should’ve just coughed up the extra dollars and gone with Ruby Love instead.

This looks like a good box but hearing about the customer service & shipping issues is disappointing. If you rely on this box it is no good for it to arrive late or not at all :O

I’ve paid for six boxes and only received one. I’ve reached out to customer service multiple times. I received an email today that they were “looking into it” but no further follow up. I’m bummed because I like the boxes and wanted to give them a chance. But, I’m paying for something I’m not receiving.

I spent months going back and forth with Charlie from CS and I had to finally just dispute the charges with my bank. This sub is a real joke that should only be subbed to if your into being emotional abused by a narcissist (Charlie).

I had to cancel my card and have it reissued!

Brandi D.

Oh no! Hopefully, they can get this sorted out for you! 🙁

After a few follow up emails, I believe u have my issue fixed. I got a not-so-pleasant email back from someone telling me it was their second day and I should be patient with them. I had to follow up two more times before I got a response. Their fix was to tell me that I had actually received two boxes (I only received one) and that they would send me a replacement box for one month as well as the July box which I haven’t yet received. I’m nit holding my breath to receive either. He told me I was canceled so we will see if I get charged again.
