July 2020 No Make No Life "Fruity Kiss" Review

Before we get started, it's worth noting this is the first box I've received since March. Japan faced shipping backlogs, suspended shipping to a growing list of countries, returned shipments, and other complications due to COVID-19. More from nmnl:

NOTICE FOR USA BASED CUSTOMERS: Unfortunately, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, on April 23rd Japan Post announced that flights to and from the USA have been reduced by 90% which resulted in delayed shipment of up to 4 months for Air Mail, with no guarantee of shipment. As such, we have made the decision to use Surface Mail, as it continues to operate during the COVID-19 crisis with a better guarantee of shipment at an estimated delivery time of 60-90 days.

Because of continued challenges, it looks like nmnl is moving away from Surface Mail in favor of other options. You can get all the details here.

The booklet gives you detailed information on each item, as well as instructions on how to use certain products. This month's theme is 'Fruity Kiss.'

Mystery Japanese Beauty Tool (Makeup Bag)

This month's box came with a mystery beauty tool item! You could receive something from Sailor Moon, Sanrio, or San-X in a makeup organizer or a pouch. I received this adorable pouch with lots of fun Halloween images on it. This honestly feels perfect for me because everyone in my house is a little Halloween obsessed! I showed this to my son and he asked if he could have it to keep his markers in. How could I say no?! So while this is probably better used as a travel case for beauty products or as your daily makeup bag, my son is getting lots of use out of this at his art table. What mystery item did you receive?

Fruity Face Pack - Retail Value $1.75 (currently out of stock)

I received the strawberry face pack this month, but you could have also received this in peach. This mask fit my face nicely and had lots of extra serum that I was able to rub into my face, neck, and chest. While it wasn't anything super magical, it did provide my skin with deep hydration! I used this mask at night before bed for 20 minutes before removing and rubbing everything into my skin. When I woke up in the morning my skin was smooth and plump!

16 Brand Fruit Chew Edition Lipstick - Retail Value $17.67 (currently out of stock)

This Fruit Chew edition lipstick is incredible! First things first, the packaging is adorable looking like a Fruit Chew bag. Inside is this bright pink lipstick that has a sweet candy scent. While I don't normally love fruity lipsticks, I found this has a strawberry scent without any of the flavors, which I really like. The color goes on with a matte finish and provides nice hydration. You can go as light or as dark as you want with this color as well! When I came downstairs with this lipstick on my son told me how pretty I looked, so obviously I have been wearing it every day since I got it!

Fruity Point Pack, 10 pieces - Retail Value $2.23 (currently out of stock)

Let me start by saying these little point packs work! Each little circle patch has hyaluronic acid and fruit extract that you can apply to your face or body for quick moisturization. Leave the patch on the spot you need hydration for around 15 to 20 minutes, remove, and rub the excess serum in. They are like a spot treatment face mask! When I read that you could use this anywhere on your body I instantly knew I wanted to try them on my knees. I don't know why, but the past few years my knees are just super gross and dry year-round. I am on my knees a lot playing with my kids, changing clothes, changing diapers, you name it, so that might be why. OMG, these worked instantly! I left each patch on for 15 minutes and was instantly left with soft skin. I have been using these once a day until I run out, which will be soon sadly, and have seen such a big improvement in my skin.

Pure Smile Moisturizing Hand Jelly, 59 g - Retail Value $6.09 (currently out of stock)

I received the hand jelly in Cassis & Cherry Blossom, but you might have received it in Savon, Muscat Grape, or Plumeria. I honestly thought the scent was a bit much at first, but it really did grow on me as I wore it. I loved how lightweight the jelly is, absorbing super quickly into my skin without feeling wet or greasy. My hands have been a mess since February, so I am always looking for a moisturizer that really works. This left me feeling super soft! I also love how pretty the bottle is!

Strawberry Milk Petit Soap, 85 g - Retail Value $3.20 (currently out of stock)

I love receiving petite soap bars like this! I usually use them in our downstairs powder room or I put them in my sock and undie drawer to keep everything smelling super fresh and lovely. This bar is made with natural ingredients like strawberry extract, fruit juice, and fermented milk. So not only does it smell nice, but it also will give skin some extra hydration!

Japanese Juicy Face Mist, 51 g - Retail Value $7.83 (currently out of stock)

I love using face mists. They are great to use before applying moisturizer, sunscreen, or even used throughout the day to add a little hydration to your face. I received the peach scent, but you could have also received the tapioca fragrance. The mist does have a light fruitiness to it without being too overpowering. Since the bottle is more of a travel size, I have been using this at the pool to provide some freshness to my skin before reapplying my sunscreen. My kids are loving it too; they think it is so silly to get sprayed with a fruit mist, but I can tell that it is also helping keep their skin hydrated.

Fruity Moisturizing Lip Cream - Retail Value $7.83 (currently out of stock)

This lip cream is amazing because you can use it as a base under a more matte lipstick or you can use it as a clear gloss with a bit of shimmer. Either way, you are going to get intense hydration from this cream! I received the cherry scent, but I can't say that I got too much of a fruitness from this. Not to worry though, it gave me so much hydration that I have been using it every day under my lipstick.

Verdict: No Make No Life Box was super fun this month! I haven't received this box since March, but boy oh boy did I miss it! This month was all about that summer fruity flavor, which I normally don't go crazy for, but this curation really worked for me. I loved that most of the products were focused on hydration, something that I myself always need, but something that I think people forget to give their skin in the summer months. The Fruit Chew edition lipstick is my new favorite color and I feel so cool knowing that my son liked it. Both the mask and the patches worked wonders on my dry skin, and the face mist has become a pool and sunscreen favorite. The total retail value came in at $46.60 which is a pretty solid value for the $35 monthly cost of the box. This month really brought on the full theme of fruity summer, bringing in quality curation and products that I truly enjoyed trying!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you'll receive the August box.

FYI, NMNL has a very deceptive practice: they charged me $35 for the box- and then the MEXT month, charged me the $35, and then an ADDITIONAL $12 for shipping without any approval or notice. When I asked about this they told me it was shipping for the previous month. ?!? Who charges separately for shipping a month late? Answer: someone who wants to get you signed up for $35 and then hopes you won’t notice the $12 per month of additional charges after that.
