Bombay & Cedar "Brave" May 2020 Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and highlights some of the brands. The theme this month is “Brave.”

Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil by Bombay & Cedar, 10 mL - Listed Value $16.00

Citronella Essential Oil Blend by Bombay & Cedar, 10 mL - Listed Value $16.00

My collection of essential oils has become my favorite thing to organize and go through lately. I use essential oils in diffusers throughout my house daily and they really do make a huge difference. I also have been using a few drops of oils on a cotton ball in my vacuum to keep it smelling clean inside. This month's blends were both great! The pink grapefruit is fruity without being too sweet smelling, even my husband liked it! The blend of sweet orange really gives a bright smell that is great to diffuse in the morning. The citronella is obviously used as a natural bug repellent, but it is also used to lift your mood, helps to heal wounds, and can help you become more at ease. It was hard for me with this scent at first because it just reminds me of citronella candles that I use outside, but it really does provide this light sweet scent that I really enjoy.

Cover-Up by Shiraleah - Retail Value $62.00 (found on sale here for $46.50)

This cover-up is fantastic! The booklet says you could have received a cover-up or kimono in various styles. I received this lavender cover-up but was unable to find this exact one on the brand's site. It is very lightweight and sheer, perfect for a hot afternoon. I have been going to the pool with my kids a ton this summer, or we are outside playing in the sprinkler at our house so I am in my swimsuit a lot. This cover-up helps to keep me cool while still feeling stylish, cute, and being a bit more covered up. The tassels and embroidery make it feel so delicate and pretty! I will say though that I think the price seems pretty high for a cover-up, and while I absolutely love this one, I could not see myself spending that much on it.

Kettle Cooked Potato Chips by Carolina Kettle - Listed Value $1.29 (Buy a case of 2 oz. bags here for $36)

I am not much of a snacker, but I have a house full of kids and a husband that could snack all day long! So these chips got eaten very quickly with the question of, "where can we get more?!" We received the sea salt flavor, a favorite in my house, and they had just the right amount of saltiness. The chips were light and super crispy, plus they had a ton of crunch which you want from a kettle chip. These chips are made in small batches in 100% sunflower oil, a super fun treat to receive for sure!

Pocket Pal Hot/Cold Pad by Gamago - Retail Value $13.99

Well, this is the cutest heating pad I have ever seen! Each little pocket pal is infused with lavender so it releases a calming scent that smells amazing and helps you relax. I love how small this is, perfect for using on your head, kneck, or smaller areas that might need a little TLC. The instructions say you can heat this pad in the microwave quickly to warm through or pop it in the freezer to make it cold as well. My son actually had a pretty bad case of swimmer's ear when I received this little llama and he quickly became a favorite item for my son. We just warmed the pal for about 30 seconds and my son was able to comfortably hold the llama to his ear for some relief. What a fun and cute heating pad that I know will get a lot of use by everyone in my family!

Graphic Wallet Comb by Go Comb - Retail Value $4.99

This comb is awesome and feels really right to receive in a summertime box! Like I said before, we have been going to the pool a lot and I've found that my kids' hair gets super knotted by the end of the day if I don't at least comb through it after they get out of the water. This comb is durable, made from pre-consumer recycled plastic, and has been perfect to quickly get through their hair. It fits right in my wallet making it really easy to use anytime and I know it won't get lost. It looks like you could have received various colors and prints in this comb, but I am totally loving this floral!

Hand Drawn Temporary Tattoos by Inked by Dani - Retail Value $12.00

Temporary tattoos are a staple with my kids, honestly, they love them so much! So everyone was super excited to see these really fun temporary tattoos this month. Each tattoo is inspired by the artist, Dani Egna, and her hand-drawn designs. Each tattoo in the box that we received came in solid white, which is really fun for summer. You can see the tattoos that both of my kids are rocking! They went on really easily and boy did they stay on for a while! Most of the temporary tattoos that we use are gone by the end of the day, but these lasted for a good 3 days on both of my kids.

Exfoliating Foot Mask by Grace & Stella - Retail Value $20.00

I received this product in a different box a few months ago. Unfortunately, when I used it back then I was really not a fan of this foot mask because it actually caused a lot of discomfort for me. The peeling can last for 5 to 7 days or up to two weeks, and I found that my peeling went on for well over a week. The instructions say not to use a moisturizer and not to help exfoliate the skin, which was pretty uncomfortable for me. I had some pain and tenderness in my feet as the peeling continued. Luckily it all cleared and my feet were smoother, but I just didn't like the exfoliating process that lasted for so long. I just recently had a pedicure and my feet are in pretty good shape right now so I am not able to use this product again right away. I am going to save it if my feet get bad again or I might see if my husband wants to use it (he never likes getting pedicures but his feet are in a bad way right now). All in all, I think this product can be a lot so maybe it's best for someone that really needs a strong exfoliation.

Artisan Brew Bread Mix by Soberdough - Retail Value $9.95

This bread mix was such a fun surprise!

Soberdough is based in Nashville and makes their mixes with 100% natural ingredients. Their products are also free of soy and dairy, and are made in a nut-free facility. I received the apple fritter mix and was really excited to see actual chunks of apples throughout the bread mix. The instructions are super easy to follow as well, and they give you a list of what types of beers would work best to cook with for your specific mix. My husband was really excited about this bread and decided to use a coffee porter beer for our bread. I don't love coffee porter beers very much, but I decided to let him roll with it. So we started by mixing some melted butter with the cinnamon blend packet. Then you pour the bread mix into a bowl and add your beer. Mix that with your hand until there are no dry ingredients left. Pour into your bread pan, drizzle the cinnamon blend on top, swirl with a knife, then pop it in the oven for 50 to 55 minutes. So easy! Our bread honestly turned out so well, it looked and smelled great. For me, I was not a fan of the beer we picked and really wish we had done something sweeter like a cider. I think that would have paired a lot better with the apple and cinnamon, but my husband was really excited about this so I wanted to let him select the beer. All in all, it was really fun and easy to bake this mix and I'm already ordering more mixes to give as gifts to family and friends around the holidays.

Verdict: This month's box was a lot of fun! It had a big summertime vibe to it with a few surprises thrown in! The biggest surprise item for me was the bread mix. It was so much fun to bake and was honestly so easy as well! I loved the packaging and the fun spin of adding your own beer to bake with. The cover-up is probably my overall favorite item this month; the lavender color and tassels are very my style, but I do think the price seems a bit high for the overall quality. The pocket pal, wallet comb, and temporary tattoos are getting used by everyone in my house, especially my kids! The only item that I didn't really love was the foot mask, but that is only because I've received one before and just found that it wasn't for me. I think it does work really well though so while it didn't work for me personally, it could be that shining star for someone else. The estimated retail value is $156.22, well above the $56.90 total monthly cost including shipping. This month really felt full of surprises, so while the overall curation might not have been there, it was a fun box that had a great variety to it.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your first month would be the July box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $49.95 + $6.95 shipping, which means that each of the 9 items in the box has an average cost of $6.32.

I used to subscribe to this box and I have always loved the items. That llama is so adorable!!! I would have enjoyed the bread too. The oils this month sound pretty good also. Great review!

I don’t get this box, but I went to the website linked in this review and purchased that llama. Actually that website has a lot of cute things that I picked up

Great review! I’ve eyed Bombay & Cedar for a long time and was hugely tempted by the July spoilers, then the flash sale yesterday sealed the deal! This looks like a great box as well, and I’ll definitely be watching their store for sales on past items. That llama–OMG! And thank you to Jill for mentioning there is a seal–I Googled that and it’s to die for, also!

One thing I always love about reading reviews is finding products for future gifts. That comb (in a plain black color, haha) will make a perfect stocking stuffer for my dad, whose hair is pretty thin but he always insists on combing it with a fine tooth comb that he keeps in the car before we go in to a restaurant, event, etc. (Oh, those were the days.) Such a small thing, but I always get excited to see useful products, especially for the men in my life, who are so hard to shop for!

Ooh, I like everything in this box. Not a subscriber so I’ll just have to try and swap.

Based on the swap section, looks like some people got a white baby seal version instead! I’m tempted to swap for that as well because it’s so cute…

Joy-Not the Other One

This looked like a great box! I love absolutely everything in it. I decided to take the chance after this one and I have signed up for July!

I received the Grace and Stella foot mask in a different box as well and I am actually a huge fan! It is one of the better ones I have used. I use a foot mask like this about once a month (which is as much as they recommend you use it due to the strength) and this one worked as well if not better as some more expensive ones I have tried.

I am so confused about this bread! LOL, why is it called Soberdough if you make it with beer? Are they saying it is sober and needs you to get it drunk? I am just missing it I guess. 🙂

I bought some of the Dani tattoos from the last Boxycharm sale and they are great! Very pretty designs and you are right, they stay for days!

That comb looks like a godsend. I lose my brush/comb from my purse like every other day so it is never there when I need it.

Lastly, I would pay for this box for that Llama alone. THAT THING IS SO STINKING CUTE!!!

Thanks for the review, I always enjoy your reviews!

They’re due to have a summer sale later this month or early August where they offer some of the items from the boxes, often at discounts. So maybe check that out? Plus they have mystery boxes periodically, where you can sometimes make requests (they don’t guarantee to honor them though).

I love the llama! Still need to make the beer bread and try the foot mask. And I got a different pack of tattoos.
