Sensory TheraPlay Box June 2020 Review
We received this one-page insert which includes photos of our items on the front with brief descriptions of them along with their retail values on the back. They have included their contact information as well as a disclaimer about how it is the responsibility of the adult to determine whether the items included are appropriate for the child. As someone with a Special Education background, I love that they include this since every child is unique and responds to various stimuli in different ways! There are some items that may not be appropriate for every child depending on those needs.
They always send a little motivational card each month and this one is pretty frame-worthy!
Find It! Kids Version - Retail Value $24.99
This game is so unique and cool! The large tube is filled with little colorful beads and hidden inside are tiny objects like rubber bands, marbles, or pom poms along with the complete alphabet on little white cubes. This is such a great calming activity for kids or a great car toy that is quiet and will hold their interest. I actually received the adult version in my Sensory Box (review coming soon!) and it is such a fun toy that I was glad to see one for my kids. I love that they made it educational too by including the alphabet beads. There is a checklist on the top and a pad full of paper checklists so you can mark off the items as you find them.
Odd Ballz Smiley Face Ball - Listed Value $8.99
I really like this ball! The outside is this transparent stretchy gel-like layer and inside are these smooth, firm, yellow smiley balls that slip and slide around inside of the main ball. You can squeeze the ball as a whole or work the smaller yellow balls inside for a different sensory experience. I found it to be very entertaining and I could see how it would be great for hand strengthening!
Toysmith Lizard Squishimal - Retail Value $10.97, Listed Value $8.00
We have been reviewing this box for some time now and we actually have this lizard but in a different color from a previous (older) box. The texture on the outside is rubbery and inside it has tiny beads for more texture. He is fun to stretch and squeeze and he actually holds up really well over time. The first lizard has been a part of my son's animal collection since we got it and is played with very frequently yet still looks almost new! You can bet he was super stoked to have another lizard to play with!
Play Visions Spin Cube - Listed Value $6.99
This spin cube is another repeat item (from a very long time ago), although in a different color, and despite having this thing for a long time, I have never quite gotten the hang of how to spin it! This fidget is fun to play with since the two different color parts spin separately from one another and while it makes a little bit of sound when you spin it, it's still a fairly quiet fidget. They recommend using it to help improve focus and concentration by using it as a fidget.
Here is my terrible attempt at getting it to spin!
Party Puppies Lobster - Listed Value $4.99
This last item is another squishy animal and it's just too cute! This party puppy comes in a removable lobster costume (there were some variations this month) and is filled with tiny beads making him fun to squeeze and squish. Removing his costume and putting it back on requires the use of fine motor skills (and some patience) which is great practice.
Verdict: This month's Sensory TheraPlay box felt a bit heavy on the squishy items, but they were some great ones that my family enjoyed. The real hero item this month was the Find It! game which is so unique and fun! It will be a perfect toy for the car when we head out of town this summer. The total retail value of this box, using a mix of listed and retail values, comes to $56.93 which is just a little over the $48.22 ($39.95 + $8.27 shipping) cost of the box. I thought it was a fun mix, but maybe one more non-squishy item would have rounded out the box a little bit for us this month!
To Wrap Up:
Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, you will receive the July box. To receive the "current" box, you must sign up on or before the last day of the previous month.
Value Breakdown: This box costs $48.22 ($39.95 + $8.27 shipping) so with 5 items in the box, that means each item has an average cost of $9.64.
