Quirky Crate June 2020 Review

Quirky Crate samples one item from a featured artist or brand each month. This month features the OG Quirky Girl, Rochelle Nevedal, the founder of Quirky Crate. This info card gives you a little info on who she is and her inspirations and intentions for QC.

On the flipside, Quirky Crate includes an itemized list of each product and its value. This month’s theme is “Peace, Love & Summertime.”

Time to get quirky!

Retro Floral Socks – Listed Value $9

Every month Quirky Crate comes through with an awesome pair of socks! This month the print is a retro floral with a rolled top. I’ve never had socks with this roll-top style, but I like the look. This medium-thick, comfortable fit pair with adorable graphics is the same quality I’ve come to expect from QC each month. I wear a size 8 shoe, and these fit me perfectly.

NPW DIY Hair Garland – Listed Value $12

This small kit comes with everything you need to make a cute floral headband or bobby pin. There are several different instruction printouts that walk you through making every project pictured, or you can make up your own accessory design. My sister’s birthday is coming up, and she happens to wear headbands every day and always loves a DIY, so I am going to include this in her b-day package.

Mushroom Purse – Listed Value $35

This month Quirky Crate is celebrating their three year anniversary! Honestly, this toadstool bag might be my favorite so far from QC. It is such a unique design, and I love the bright red faux leather and silver hardware. This bag is quite roomy, too, compared to some of their monthly bags that barely hold my cell phone. Who wouldn’t want to power-up with a ‘shroom bag?

Gnome Pen – Listed Value $5, Buy 4 for $20.22

This is a silly pen, but it actually writes very smoothly. It feels clunky in my hand; I know I won’t be writing any letters with it, but I just love having this peace-sign-giving, funky blue gnome on my desk. It will also be so easy to track down if one of my coworkers decides to walk away with my pen!

Lava Lamp Enamel Pin – Listed Value $10

I would have killed for this lava lamp years ago! It is awesomely retro and so groovy, baby. I love the peace, love, and happiness feel it is giving me. I didn’t know this before, but Quirky Crate‘s founder designs every pin sent out in this subscription. This one is a little smaller than usual, but it is adorable nonetheless.

Wild Wood Ruler – Listed Value $3, Retail Value $3.50 (on sale for $1.50)

It isn’t very often I have to pull out a ruler, but this is such a cute upgrade to your boring, everyday wooden ruler; I will be happy to measure with this little guy. Having cute little accessories makes such mundane chores much more pleasant! I love every detail from his little pink nose to his easy to read markings.

Flamingo Drink Holder – Retail Value $5.99

If only I had a pool to float this handy cup holder! This flamingo is a generous size to accommodate any sized beverage without capsizing. In the meantime, I will just have to let my son play with this in the bath, which may be a better use for it, anyway!

Flower Power Hair Clips – Listed Value $12

These clips are fantastic! They hold a sizable amount of hair (please note: I do have fine hair), and they remind me of something I bought from Claire’s in the past. I am feeling this funky array of colors, too; the green daisy and bright yellow/green clip really pop in my brown hair.

The Verdict: June’s Quirky Crate was a joy to unbox! I went through a very groovy phase in elementary school, so I considered this box a tribute to little Abby with the pink and purple lava lamp and flower power accessories. The total value of this box adds up to $90, double the $36.95 + $6.50 shipping subscription cost. This box consistently brings a smile to my face which always makes this box worth every penny for me.

Abby has been a box enthusiast since July 2011, finding her calling with Birchbox. That was the start of a new era for Abby, because she is now hooked on the subscription box life; she loves the idea of receiving (several) thoughtful treats from genius curators such as Lisa Sugar and Rachel Zoe. A few other loves of hers would be her dog named Bill Murray, Bill Murray and chocolate babka.

  1. That shroom purse and gnome pen! LOVE!

  2. I just subscribed due to MSA best of article! I hope I get this box. The gnome pen and lava pin are yay!!

  3. That mushroom purse is soooo adorable. I was sorely tempted to re-sub!

  4. I remember socks with a roll top from when I was a kid. I’d roll them down as far as they would go and wear them with my jelly shoes (yay for cool 80’s fashion! 😀 ).

  5. It’s a very cute box with very cute things, but way too expensive.

  6. The ruler and the hair clips are my favorite! I actually think the hair clips are more elevated than Claire’s because of the retro color palette. If they were pink and sparkly I would agree but I enjoy the reference anyway. I would wear them!

    • Claire’s was my go-to for my funky accessories growing up. They just closed the one in my local mall within the last few years; the 10-year-old inside of me wept!

  7. I always love your reviews on this box! So much fun…

    • Thanks, Bess! 🙂

  8. The lava lamp pen is so cute!
