Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review

Before we dive in, I want to mention that this is my 6th month of Simply Earth, meaning I get a free Big Bonus Box! Every 6th month the Simply Earth Team includes additional supplies for making recipes and restocking your assortment of tubes, bottles, carrier oils, and more. The first part of this review will be the normal monthly products and the second will dive into the Bonus Box.

The first things I grabbed from the package were two cards with a note from Katie (the curator and aromatherapist behind this box!), an intro to Simply Earth's "Essentials Oils for Beginners" course, and all the info on the included oils this month. It also let me know that 13% of my purchase cost was donated to Disrupting Traffick, a non-profit dedicated to providing survivors of human trafficking supportive services. It makes me feel extra excited to support companies that give back and deliver awesome boxes.

Also included were 6 recipe cards and coordinating stickers to use on all my handmade items!

Now, for the oils I received this month:

Sweet Orange Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $7.99

From Simply Earth:

Likely originating in China, the dried peels of the orange tree were used in ancient Chinese medicine to treat coughs and colds. Now Orange Essential Oil is used for its uplifting and comforting effect on mood while also being able to ease sore muscles and aid in digestion.  It's also been used for centuries as an all-natural degreaser.

If I could only have one essential oil for the rest of my life, it would be a toss-up between this sweet orange oil and lavender. Luckily, I don't have to make such stressful choices, especially since a lavender + orange blend is my absolute favorite for my home. I use it in my diffuser, in a spray bottle with water for air freshening, and with white vinegar for cleaning. It smells just like peeling a ripe orange in the summer!

Dark Patchouli Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $14.99

From Simply Earth:

Patchouli used to be packed with silks and cashmere from India all throughout the British Empire to repel insects. In aromatherapy and perfumery, Patchouli provides an excellent fixative that can help extend the shelf life of other more expensive oils. It also helps improve skin's appearance and can calm nervous tension and worry.

I know people love to hate on Patchouli, but I adore this oil. Does it smell a little earthy-crunchy? Yeah, it does, and that's ok! I like to add it to floral oils like lavender to give it a softer twist, and find it also is gorgeous with sweet orange too.

Cypress Essential Oil, 15 ml – Retail Value $12.99

From Simply Earth:

Believed to bring comfort to those grieving, Cypress trees were commonly planted by headstones in old cemeteries. Cypress was traditionally used by early cultures as incense and as a diuretic, but now it's most commonly used for its aromatic properties that help with emotional stability.

I really love this oil! It smells like an evergreen tree if you took away all the "wintery" vibes that usually come with pine and juniper oils. Its also really comforting, so I get why it is associated with grieving. It reminds me very much of a reflective trip in the woods.

Energy Blend Essential Oil, 15 ml – Retail Value $12.99

From Simply Earth:

Energy Essential Oil Blend was created to give you a little boost during the day when you start feeling your energy drop. Diffuse in your car on the way to work in the morning to start your day off right!

This blend of eucalyptus, lemon, and peppermint is positively peppy! I am someone who usually dislikes peppermint but this blend is something I can totally get on board with.

Lava Rock Beads, 10 count

I have gotten a few essential oil bracelets in some of my boxes and they always have some of these very cool lava rocks. These black beads are absorbent, meaning you can add a few drops of your fave oil blend and wear it with you throughout the day. You can also add these to a cute dish and use them as a DIY diffuser.

Diffuser Sticks, 5 count

Speaking of diffusers, our box also arrived with 5 wooden sticks to use in a vase and to add oils. They soak up the blend and spread it throughout your room of choice.

Aromatherapy Inhaler - Retail Value $0.49

Our last item is a plastic inhaler with a cotton core inside.

I decided to try out the Anxiety Relief Inhaler recipe since I have never made an inhaler and I have been feeling a little on-edge lately.

That was a super easy recipe! I just added a few drops of the orange and energy oil to a dish...

Popped the inhaler open...

Soaked the core in the oils...

Then reassembled!

I love taking aromatherapy on the go, and even though I am not actually going anywhere right now, this is great for keeping at my desk when I need a moment to zen out.

Want to peek at what came in my Big Bonus Box? Let's go!

Simply Earth Coconut Oil, 12 fl oz - Retail Value $8.99

I love using solid coconut oil on my dry legs. Since my calves are especially sensitive, it is a great way to moisturize without any added fragrances that might make my skin angry. It also makes a great makeup remover in a pinch and works wonders on super dry dog paws.

Set of Six 10 ml Amber Glass Roll-On Bottles - Estimated Value $6.00 ($0.99 each)

I was actually needing a few more of these because I have been working on some custom blends in coconut and almond oil carrier bases. I love that these are light protective amber glass and that they have real metal roller balls!

Set of Six 5 ml Amber Glass Dropper Bottles - Estimated Value $6.00 ($0.99 each)

I also love keeping a stockpile of these little dropper bottles on hand too, because they make it very easy to share your favorite blends with friends or take them on the go.

Simply Earth Almond Oil, 4 oz - Retail Value $8.99

Almond oil is one of my favorite carrier oils because it is gentle enough to be used on my face without feeling too heavy. It can also be used in custom rollerball blends because while it does have a slight nutty scent, it doesn't compete with your oils.

Simply Earth Fractionated Coconut Oil, 4 fl oz - Retail Value $8.99

This is another fabulous carrier with zero scent. I find it feels a little heavier than sweet almond, but is super moisturizing. I like to use it as an oil cleanser too, mixed with just a little bit of lavender!

Simply Earth Beeswax Pellets, 2 oz - Retail Value $5.99

Our final bonus item is a smaller bag of beeswax pellets. You can melt these down to use in lip balms but I have been holding on to my smaller bags to combine into candles later on in the month.

Verdict: Simply Earth had some really awesome oils this month! I loved all 4, and my house already smells incredible. The recipes felt a little pared down this month, but I am actually really happy for some easier DIY fun. It is always a fun thing to get the big bonus box and I am happy that my stash of oils and bottles have been replenished. If you are into essential oils, this is a box you can't miss.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No—if you subscribe today, you'll receive the Starter Box as your first box as well as the big bonus box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $39.00 (with free shipping) so each of the 7 items in the monthly box has an average cost of $5.57. There is even more value here since this was a Big Bonus Box month for me, but that will vary on your own subscription schedule!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I love this review. Wish I could afford it, but you’ve convinced me to start working on getting chickens and I just got off the wait list for fortune cookie soap!
