Birchbox Limited Edition: Favorites Box Review

Here is the info sheet for the items included in the box.

Benefit Cosmetics BADgal BANG! Bigger, Badder, Volumizing Mascara, 0.30 oz - Retail Value $25

This is one of my favorite mascaras from Benefit. It gives me great length and separation, and I can layer on multiple coats to get the va-va-voom lashes that I live for. This will occasionally clump on me just a little bit, but it’s never hard for me to brush those clumps out and avoid the spider lash look.

Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Daily Cleanser, 1 oz - Estimates Value $5.20 (Buy the 2.5 oz version for $13)

I love Kiehls, but I didn’t love this cleanser. It had a smell reminiscent of nail polish remover, and when I checked out the ingredients list the fourth one listed was denatured alcohol. This has some grit for physical exfoliation along with kaolin clay, so this is definitely designed for those with more oily skin.

ARROW BOOST Color Enhancing Lip Balm in Blush Hour, 0.14 oz - Retail Value $15

This is a lip balm that changes into a light pink when you apply it, and the color is a little different for everyone depending on your body’s chemistry. This is a solid “no makeup but I want to look put together” lip balm, but I don’t see myself paying full price for this.

Love of Color Liquid Shimmer Shadow in Daybreak, 0.03 oz - Retail Value $10

I like these liquid eyeshadows from Love of Color- they’re super portable, and the doe-foot applicator means you don’t need an additional makeup brush to apply. Daybreak is a gorgeous shimmery peachy gold that makes my eyes pop, and once it set I didn’t experience any shadow creasing.

Here is the eyeshadow swatched above the lip balm.

Juliette Has a Gun Not a Perfume Eau de Parfum, 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $6.95 (Buy the full-size 100 mL for $135)

The only scent note on this perfume is Cetalox. Cetalox is the synthetic version of ambergris, which is the intestinal fluid of a sperm whale. Apparently, the digestive tracts of sperm whales create delicious scents, as ambergris is a big ingredient in the fragrance industry! Luckily, no sperm whales were harmed in the making of this perfume. This is a very strong, spicy fragrance, and while it is not quite my jam for a day to day fragrance, I would wear this for a night out (remember those?).

amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask, 2 oz – Retail Value $12

This is one of my favorite hair masks. I have tried out quite a few, but if I could only pick one for the rest of time this would be a serious contender. Along with jojoba oil and panthenol, this also has sea buckthorn oil which adds a serious boost of nourishment. This makes a noticeable difference in the smoothness and softness of my hair, but it washes away without leaving a residue that leaves my hair feeling weighed down.

JUARA Candlenut Body Creme, 1.5 oz - Estimated Value $7 (Buy the 7.5 oz version for $35)

This body creme had a rich formula that took a moment to fully sink in, but when it did I was left with silky soft skin. This has a lightly nutty scent and overall was a real treat to use. I did think that the way the lotion settled in the tub looked a bit... interesting,  but a quick chat with customer service confirmed that is the way the body creme looks sometimes *shrug emoji*.

Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect, 6.7 oz - Retail Value $32

This is a nice lightweight leave-in that provided shine and moisture to my hair. It doesn’t do much to really stand out to me, but few leave-in products do, considering how finicky my hair is. I prefer a bit more slip from a leave-in since my curls love to tangle, but overall this is a solid product.

beautyblender Original – Retail Value $20

I love my beautyblender sponge, and I will always be excited about getting a new one. I have used other sponges, but the performance of this one just does the job so well I somehow justify shelling out $20 for a replacement. This is my favorite makeup sponge that I have used, and it works well for applying foundation and setting powder as well as blending out liquid or cream blushes and highlight. My favorite way to use this is by applying liquid foundation with a brush and then going in with my damp beautyblender to smooth everything out for a seamless finish

Here I am wearing the mascara and eyeshadow.

Verdict: This box was a hit for me- every single item was useful, and this was a great way for me to restock on some of my favorites like the mascara, hair mask, and beautyblender (which alone exceed the cost of the box). Value-wise, everything in this kit adds up to $133.15. That is a bit short of the promised value of $142, but overall I am still happy with the value of the box given the cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you order today? No, this is now sold out.

it was interesting reading about the perfume. I never knew that about sperm whales intestinal fluids. Thanks for teaching me something new today 😁

Wow, Birchbox really broke their shop! When did they do this? I don’t see any way to just browse the products available. The site is forcing me to go to all these weird subcategories with giant headers and a bunch of distracting ~helpful~ information.

I used to love checking out the “new” products section to add to my want list, since Birchbox uses that in their algorithm to select what’s in your box. They don’t even HAVE a “new” section now! What a bizarre way to run an online store.

This box was one of my favorite purchases last year from BB. (It’s been on their ‘menu’ for a while.).

It’s always interesting how our olfactory differs from.person to petson. I loved the scent of the cleanser. I found it very earthy and not alcohol-y at all. In fact, ive purchased the full size

The Juara is fabulous. And the Not A Perfume is one ofy favorites.

Thus is a strong box and was worth the spend for me.
