JourneeBox Winter 2020 Review

FYI: This review has all customization variations! You will receive one of each in your box based on your selections for this quarter.

Included is a highly detailed booklet with info about all of the products. The theme this month is "A Journee to the Qingdao!" Our booklet arrived this month with gorgeous Chinese paper cutting, featuring waves and scallops that nod to this unique coastal city and its traditions. It really added so much to an already exceptional unboxing experience!

Monoi and Hops Bath Scrub - Listed Value $38.00

Our first item is a yummy smelling salt body scrub! Inside is a mix of salt, coconut oil, tropical flowers (tiare, frangipani, and hibiscus), and hops! Inspired by the beer culture of Qingdao, the hops add such a nice earthy touch to a very soft and mild smelling scrub. I found this formula much less abrasive than many other salt scrubs and the coconut oil left my skin soft and hydrated. I especially loved this on my legs!

Set of 2 Organic Napkins - Listed Value $29.00

These 18 x18 inch cotton napkins are printed with a traditional Chinese wave pattern in navy. Inspired by the unique seafood cuisine of Qingdao, these are a lovely accompaniment to a meal for two and can elevate all of those at-home dinners we are all living through right now.

They also make truly adorable bandanas if you are into this sort of scarf look!

Ombre Scarf in Blue OR Grey - Retail Value $98.00

FYI: This scarf is huge! Around 50 inches long and 75 inches wide.

Subscribers could choose from ombre options in grey OR blue.

The scarf included this month is one of those perfect blanket types that are heavy enough to keep you warm in the spring chills, but not heavy at all. I am currently hunkered down in my drafty unfinished dining room while we finish up some work in my office, and this is the perfect sort of wrap.

Here I am all bundled up!

Theme Box Necklace Set - Listed Value $61.00

Subscribers could choose from sterling silver OR 18k gold plate.

This subscription always has really lovely jewelry. This set of 5 necklaces is a great example of that! Subscribers could choose between sterling silver or gold plate, and truly there is no wrong choice. Everything is lovely! This is exactly the sort of jewelry I find myself loving lately: simple, luxe, and layerable. The biggest stunner is that lapis design, IMO. It wears on the longer side and the contrast of the chunky stone dangling from such a delicate chain is gorgeous. It also looks great when you wear it with some of the shorter necklaces. Each necklace also has a 4-inch extender built-in, so you can wear it exactly how long you prefer.

Here is a little gallery of all the necklaces on individually.

Ceramic Vase OR Marble Jar - Listed Value $38.00

Subscribers could choose one of these two styles for their box.

We like having little containers like this in my kitchen to keep our favorite teas separate.

Stationery & Referral Set - Listed Value $32.00

This stationery set is interesting because it can be used as traditional stationery for any message or you can use the included flat cards to invite any friends you want to join Journeebox. If they do, you both get a special gift next month in your box. If that isn't your style, no worries. You still have a gorgeous set of 5 different cards to send some snail mail to whomever you want!

Three-Pair Earring Set - Listed Value $48.00

FYI: This is an annual subscribers only item.

Annual subscribers could choose from sterling silver OR 18k gold plate.

Our last item is a set of three earrings that will arrive in the boxes of annual subscribers. Again, you get a choice of metal color, which is really nice! I immediately was in love with the hoops. They are the perfect size and the hammered texture really speaks to me. These are the sort of earrings I will wear all the time! The crystal stud with the half-circle was also really modern looking and geometric in a great way. The third earring is a little pave bar that is adorable in a multi-piercing stacked look.

And here they are on!

Verdict: JourneeBox is always filled with exciting and high-quality items, and this month was really fun to unbox! I think my favorite item would have to be that necklace set. It just felt above and beyond! I also loved the scarf and I am finding it quite functional as I work from home. The salt scrub was beautifully formulated and the container and stationery set felt very on theme for this Qingdao-inspired box. If I had to say anything was missing, it might have been nice for some sort of sweet treat to have been included, but this box still felt wonderfully complete as is. This continues to be a box I look forward to every quarter.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? Yes, as of publication, you can choose the Winter Box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $54.99 + free shipping, which means that each of the 7 items in the box has an average cost of $7.86. I included the annual set in this calculation.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I love this box. I didn’t get the blue scarf because it was sold out but the entire box was very well curated and awesome. I hope the Grand Canyon box is just as spectacular.

Just curious… Is there a discount/coupon code for a 1st time customer to try out the box?

By far best subscription box out there! I have had every box since the beginning and each box gets better and better. I loved the first one. The new format of traveling to new locations with each box only brings more excitement to the Journee. Every item is of the highest quality and I feel each item is thoughtfully chosen to make a cohesive box packaged exquisitely for me. Thank you, Kevia and the Journee team!

Is the sterling silver jewelry silver plate or actual sterling silver? Thanks!

Customer Service

They are sterling silver plate.

I thought they were sterling silver, not plated sterling silver. I am highly allergic to metal (earrings) so I always go for sterling silver, havent try mine yet and now I hope they will be ok.

On their site, it says you can add a Welcome Box to your subscription for $34. The contents are listed.

This was the box that made me sign up. And it was fabulous! I also took advantage of the sale items and coupons! They really know how to take my money! 😂. Joking aside, this box is such exceptional quality! Everything is spectacular and I expect it to last a while. The sterling silver necklaces were exceptionally beautiful.

Sterling silver PLATED. My jar came in pieces and the salt scrub latch was broken and I had a mess. A lesson to stop buying so many sub boxes.

Christina

Everything was packaged adequately for normal shipping situations. My box arrived with no damage. Such comments should be addressed to Kevia first, as they will make it right and have no reflection on the quality of the box.

Are they plated? They claim to be sterling silver or 18k gold plated, both the earring set and the necklace set.

This is also my favorite box, it’s just so beautifully done and the items are useful and lovely. I also loved the hoop earrings and have worn them a lot already – they show up nicely on Zoom meetings! I would love another set of napkins if anyone wants to trade.

I really loved the box this season. The only items I had no use for were the napkins which dont match anything I have.

They make beautiful face masks!

Dawn

I might make face masks out of them.

In general the quality is stellar! There have been a few misses (the leaf dish in the first month was light plastic, one of my earrings this month came with a bent post) but overall this subscription always feels like crazy value, the textiles especially. For the 2-3 items I’ve been disappointed with, I’d say that literally every single other item I’ve gotten (I’ve been subscribed since the first or second box) has made me over the moon pleased.

This, by far, is the most exquisitely curated subscription box ever. The quality of the box is bar none. The outside box is perfect and reusable. When you open each box you are met with a beautifully curated and beautifully wrapped items. Kevia has such lovely, feminine taste and everything looks and feels lux. I am so amazed and grateful that my hubs got this box for me. Every year he get a new subscription for me when the other runs out. I have had quite a few sub boxes but this sub box is the one I want to keep. The box is on a different schedule than the others but it is well worth the wait.

I’m stealing someone’s quote and I apologize because o don’t know who to credit but this box is like a gift from a well-travelled friend.

Sadly I’ve gotten two boxes and both were torn in the right corner so couldn’t reuse.

Really? This is your complaint? Gorgeous products, well-curated, and comment is about damage to a cardboard box?
Can you tell I’m a fan?

Tiffany

l love your review and am tempted. However, I purchased a Kevia trinket holder in FFF add ons and the handle for the lid popped of right away. I’m a little hesitant because of that. Can anyone speak to the quality of the products?

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

I’d contact them ASAP! The quality of everything (including CS) at JB is over the top. They answer quickly (at least pre-virus) and really seem like they actually WANT to hear from customers if there is a perceived problem, because they want the opportunity to fix it!

I think the quality of their merch is the best I’ve seen in ANY sub box, and the “unboxing experience” is also wonderful. The quality of their items is certainly well beyond others anywhere near their price point. I’m trying to think of another box they’re comparable to and I can’t. For example, at practically the same price point, FFF is (IMHO) a truly poor, cheap sister, with no real CS (or even reliably functioning website) compared to JB.

The only thing I’m not truly wild about is their jewelry, but only because I personally don’t wear much costume jewelry. (Though I think if one does wear costume jewelry theirs is very nice and tasteful!)

Btw – one thing I’ve never seen mentioned in MSA reviews: when you customize your upcoming sub box, you can add other items from the JB website for 40% off. Remember those great tunics they sent in Summer 2019? That includes those!

Reply ButtonReply

Beth

@tiffany – I just noted that your item was purchased through FFF. so you may have to take it up with them, not Kevia. Sorry for misunderstanding.

If you do not get help through FFF, you could try kevia, since technically it was their merch. Though, that may not work. The one time I got a defective item in a sub box and the sub box owner would not do anything, I tried talking to the company that made the item. But they said that my only recourse was through the sub box itself. (I don’t know why. Maybe in that case the sub box had knowingly bought “seconds”!…)

The napkins have been repurposed Into face masks for my husband, an Essential DoD worker.

That’s a a good idea. We’re in the same boat, my husband is essential and supposed to wear a mask but they’re not providing them. Stay safe.

You and your company are the absolute best. I’m an RN and I worked in the hospital setting. I have subscribed to your box for the last year. They are truly a source of escape, like a mini holiday in a box, that is greatly appreciated, especially in these unique times. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
