Our Ipsy Glam Bag Plus April 2020 Review

Here is our info card complete with all of our items.

Our bag this month is a pretty pale mint color covered in abstract flowers. The zipper has a really cute branded wooden pull ring, too.

Now, on to the items!

Ciaté London Triple Shot XXL Mascara, 8 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $22.00

I am not too excited for a black mascara, but they do arrive in boxes pretty frequently. This one worked really beautifully on my lashes, giving them loads of length and a nice amount of volume, but not really much curl. My only real complaint is that there were some little tiny clumps when I used it, but you did have to be really looking to see them.

Lavido 2 in 1 Purifying Facial Mask and Exfoliator, 50 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $36.00

The first thing I noticed about this product was that it had this really nice natural scent that reminded me of clay and an herb garden. I liked it a lot! This is a two-part sort of deal, providing both exfoliating and mask benefits. Simply rub it onto your skin in circular motions then leave on for about 15 minutes. Once you wash it away your skin looks really bright from the exfoliation but also feels great because the mask was moisturizing.

Shaina B. Cosmetics Mini Miami Blush and Highlight Palette – Retail Value $20.00

I love blush. Even as someone with a redder skin tone, it is probably my favorite makeup product. This palette has 4 different shades inside. The first is a champagne shimmer highlighter, follower by a whisper soft pink highlighter. There is also a gorgeous matte blush and a shimmer blush. All of these applied so well with a fluffy brush and give a very diffused natural effect to my skin. I also love how large each pan is because my bigger fluffy brushes have plenty of room to dip!

These are really pretty! Top to bottom: Sugar Bomb, Guava Glow, Rosa, and Bricknell.

Céla Creme The Very Best Crème Rose, 4 oz – Full Size! Retail Value $39.00

I have tried another cream from this brand and loved it, but sadly the scent of this version did absolutely nothing for me. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE rose scents. Big time! This was more of a fruity floral that just didn't jive with my sniffer. It was just too sweet and the notes of apples and peaches totally drowned out any real rose scent. The good news is that this stuff feels amazing on your hands and the packaging is gorgeous, so if you end up liking the smell more than I did, this is such a great addition this month for you!

tarte Tarteist Double Take Eyeliner in 'Black', 0.11 g – Full Size! Retail Value $24.00

Finally, our last item is a black eyeliner pen. I was totally underwhelmed at first, even though this is one of my favorite cosmetic brands, but then I noticed this is double-ended and has a creamy pencil on one side and a marker-style liquid tip on the other. That is pretty freaking practical! I tested both out and was surprised that the cream was significantly more waterproof than the marker, though both were gloriously dark and smooth.

I like that this has both cream and liquid options. Very smart!

Verdict: This box has a value of $141.00 which is great for a $25 box. Was it the most exciting Ipsy Plus bag I have ever opened? No. I wish there had been items other than black mascara and eyeliner. But the ones they sent were solid, so that is something! The cream would have been a home run with a different smell, and I have to say I loved the exfoliator-mask combo. The palette was the high point for me personally. I can never have enough blush.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You'll likely start with April as your first month. As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $25. Here is approximately what you are paying per product:

  • Ciaté London Mascara $3.90
  • Lavido Exfoliator $6.38
  • Shaina B Palette $3.55
  • Céla Cream $6.91
  • tarte Eyeliner $4.26

Alternatively, each item has an average cost of $5.00.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Did anyone else have a problem with the Bloom Effects Dutch dirt mask? It burned soo bad when I applied it for about 5 minutes! I couldn’t even rub it in to exfoliate. My skin was very soft after using it but I’ve never had anything hurt that bad before!

My April bag still hasn’t shipped. Customer service did reach out to me and told me shipping is delayed this month for obvious reasons and it’s also taking longer because I had add ons so hopefully it will ship out before May.

Last month my box was lost all together so I had to wait on a replacement which luckily had all the same items in it.

Then my Boxycharm box arrived with an eyeshadow palette when I chose the Elemis Hydration juice. They tried telling me that wasn’t my choice item. The previous month they sent me only 4 items then told me my 5th item was something different than what was on the card. They just send whatever the heck they want. Just filler stuff.

Ipsy does have nicer customer service representatives who do their best to resolve issues and answer your questions. . Boxycharm takes forever to respond and when they do it’s just never taking any responsibility and they have this “Oh, well!” approach that I’m just getting tired of.

Page did you get your April bag yet? I had $73 in add-ons and it showed in FedEx due to be received 4/18. I have reached out three times and got generic answers. I totally respect
The slower mail. My problem is their tracking numbers show the stuff if still sitting in NC at their warehouse and it’s now 5/2. I have asked for a refund when it was past their 10 day shipping rule and have gotten nowhere so now I have to open PayPal claims against them. So disappointed. Let me know if you you got your April bag and add ons. Thanks!

I agree about Boxycharm. I ordered THREE subscriptions for my daughters and when the first two boxes did not arrive trying to get replacement boxes took way too long and then we only received one box. Later we were told “sorry , there is nothing we can do but refund you” which I still haven’t seen deposited to my account. There is NO phone number to speak to anyone either which is very difficult. I cannot recommend Boxycharm even the product was decent. Too hit and miss.

Does anyone know when choice will be? Does IPSY send emails, unlike BC?

Reply ButtonReply

Luna

I’ve seen people say it’ll be the 23rd. When I was subbed, I would get an email from Ipsy, but it was well after choice was up, so I recommend just logging into your account rather than waiting for an email…. that’s what I always did. 🙂

My bag included some things that I will use:

Lavido 2-in-1 Purifying Facial Mask and Exfoliator
Shaina B Mini Miami Blush and Highlight Palette (ugh, so many of these palettes)
Tarte double-take eyeliner in black
Dose of Color liquid matte lipstick in Campfire (too orange, since I’m cool-toned)
Starskin VIP Dream De La Creme & The Diamond mask (2 masks)

Plus, they included a nice blush and a highlighter as bonuses for subscribing for a while, I guess? It was nice to receive the extras.

Is anyone familiar with picking choice the month after pausing? I paused April and next GBP is set for May. I am wondering if I will be able to automatically make a choice on choice day or is there some odd thing I need to do first? Thanks for any help!

Jess

You should be fine. I remember when i paused mine.. I was still able to choose next months choice just like everyone else..

Jennifer

Thanks for answering, I also paused April and am looking forward to choosing for my May bag!

Bag twins!

Cela is by far my favorite lotion/cream brand. I bought the big pump bottle of Creme de la Creme Light in a FFF sale and I’ve been hooked ever since. It smells like orange creamsicles. I’ve since tried the regular Creme de la Creme, the scrub and now the Rose and I love every single one.

I love the blush palette but the flamingos are so cute that I don’t want to use it!

I used the tarte liquid side yesterday for a video call. It was the first time I had worn makeup in at least a month. My eyes are quite watery, but it held strong. I’m not the biggest Tarte fan, but it worked well for me.

Lavido is another brand that FFF introduced me to. They are eco and ingredient conscious and I appreciate that. I haven’t tried the mask yet, though. Haven’t tried the mascara yet either

This is the first time for me to be a bag twin!! I like this box, it was pretty solid. It doesn’t sound exciting-black eyeliner and mascara, but everything is very useful. I really like the face mask, it felt nice and the texture was good for an exfoliator. I picked the blush pallet, I’m happy that I did because it is really pretty.
The bag itself? The reason I didn’t skip plus this month was for the bag-but turns out I love the box and the bag is crap. I hate to complain since some didn’t even receive the bag, but honestly, it’s useless!
What did the drawstring bag look like? Anything special?

I thought the scent of the lotion was full-on rose. I LOVE the quality and performance of the Cela products. I got the shadow palette and it’s gorgeous. Ipsy is a strong sub. The bag quality left a wee bit on the table…mine was sewn all crooked and the zipper jams because of the poor craftsmanship.

This was hands down my favorite bag, I’ve been a subscriber for a year. 😍 I was underwhelmed at first about the eyeliner but it ended up being my favorite thing ever….

I was so disappointed by the quality of the bag. I know it’s not supposed to be first-rate bag, but it was so poorly made. The lining puffed up and kept jamming the zipper. It was unusable. Such a waste.

Reply ButtonReply

Marion

Some people didn’t even receive the zip bag this month. Ipsy sent a random selection of subscribers a drawstring pouch instead.

Reply ButtonReply

Alice

I saw photos of those. Wasn’t impressed. Ipsy better be careful. They shouldn’t be messing around with success.

Alice

Same. It was sewn all askew. I love the bags and was really looking forward to the Plus’ color and design. The craftsmanship was so poor on this. I’m also disappointed in the reduced size of the Plus bags.

I’ve used the tarte pencil before and was disappointed in how quickly the pencil part was gone. Not much in there. Nice idea, but the product is totally unbalanced.

This is a solid box, but kind of boring. I miss when GBP was exciting, I feel like all the good stuff goes to Ultimate now.

Anyone got email with survey from ipsy and had their glambag sent in padded envelope + got no make up bag, just a drawstring pouch?

Reply ButtonReply

I got the drawstring bag as well 👎

I got a drwstring pouch instead of the bag for my plus pouch. I don’t quite know how i feel about it. Truthfully, i might use it more than the bag but the bag with the wooden ring is so cute.

Beccah

I contacted them and they are sending me the bag! That’s why I bought all 3 this month. I wanted to have a set!

patricia.gorman

I received the pouch also when I contacted them they basically said too bad so sad 🤬

Beccah

YES!! I’m 😠😠!

I thought it’s smelt quite rosy! I like it a lot a lot more then I thought I would. Guess shows how different we all are. But I thought the bag was more of sampler size bag although very cute. Also a lot products lately may say “full size” but I feel Theyr more deluxe samples. The lotion doesn’t specifically say hand lotion so expected bigger my context nail duo also seemed small. Other glam bag plus before as well seemed more deluxe sample not full. Maybe I’m expecting too much?

The mascara review has a tarte photo mixed in.

I totally agree! The Cela cream feels amazing on your hands but I was so disappointed in the scent. I thought I was getting a rose scented cream not a fruity one. I mean why name it rose?????

Reply ButtonReply

Mel

Agreed. I like the smell, but there is not a hint of rose in it. I smell fruit.

I wish it was more of a natural scent…not so fake perfume-y
