Earthlove Subscription Box Review – Spring 2020

Earthlove is a quarterly subscription box for conservationists and fans of Mother Earth! Each package is full of eco-conscious gifts that help you enjoy nature and heal the planet.

Subscribers can choose between Vegan or Beegan for the same cost. The latter option includes honey and other bee products.

This review is of the Beegan option for $59.95/quarter + free shipping.

FYI: “SHIPPING DELAYS: Governor Jay Inslee here in Washington State has announced a “Stay Home – Stay Healthy” mandate due to COVID-19 forcing all non-essential businesses to close for two weeks, which includes Earthlove. In order to comply with the order, we cannot fulfill new Spring Box orders until at least April 8th (or possibly longer if the mandate is extended), though you can still order on the website and we will resume shipping when we are able to do so. I’m truly sorry for the delay if you were planning to signup post-reveal, but this is an unfortunate and uncertain situation and I thank you for your understanding.”

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Earthlove Spring 2020 Review

This booklet was included with information about the theme and the items inside. This month, funds from the box go to help wildfire recovery in Australia.

Moodtopia by Sara-Chana Silverstein – Retail Value $17.99

This book is dedicated to natural ways to improve your mood. Mine has been a little in the dumps lately, so I can use all the help I can get!

Unearth Malee Thai Lime Sage Natural Deodorant, 2 oz – Retail Value $10.00

I have a complicated relationship with natural deodorants because I used to have one I LOVED but randomly one day I started having a reaction due to the baking soda inside. Womp womp! This might be a nice alternative though, as it is wax and arrowroot powder-based. I have tried it for 2 days now and it seems promising, though admittedly I am not exactly “on the go” these days! The scent is really great, a soft lime with an herby twist. It applies nicely without any drag and doesn’t seem to leave anything terrible on my clothes. Kind of excited about this!

Scentuals Sleep Well Lotion– Retail Value $15.79

This is my new favorite lotion. It smells SO good and absorbs wonderfully! The exact blend of essential oils isn’t listed on the label but I can pick out ylang ylang, lavender, jasmine, and maybe sandalwood? It is really strong on the ylang ylang, meaning I am in love! The formula is really moisturizing because it is a blend of aloe, avocado oil, and olive oil. Big fan here!

Baiser Beauty Formula N°9 Moonstone Perfume, 10 ml – Retail Value $65.00

FYI: It looks like the packaging differs a little if you purchase the item from the manufacturer.

This roll-on perfume is a blend of bergamot, coriander, rose, jasmine, and neroli. It is much stronger than your typical essential oil roll-on, which justifies the perfume title! This is a really warm and sensual scent that feels really earthy and also sexy. There is also a little piece of rose quartz inside to infuse it with heart opening and love.

Papercraft Miracles Handmade Paper Stationery Set – Listed Value $16.00

I love handmade paper and this set of 4 notecards is pretty exquisite! You can look at the paper and pick out grass, recycled newspaper print, confetti, and bits of fabric. Each comes with an envelope so you can send some old-fashioned snail mail.

Dona Bela Shreds Belabands 2-pack – Retail Value $12.00

These are kind of cool! I didn’t really know what they were at first but apparently you can use them as headbands, a textile necklace or bracelet, a scrunchie, and more. The strips of fabric are made from textile remnants that would otherwise be trashed. This pack came with two: a sunny yellow print and blue/white pattern.

Hobbs Tea Hawaiian Tea Sampler, 4 bags – Retail Value $8.99

Your girl adores tea. Even more than that, she loves wildcrafted tea! This sampler has four varieties (black, white, green, and oolong) all harvested in Hawaii. The nights here are still chilly, so I can’t wait to curl up on the couch with a cuppa before bed.

Meliora Laundry Bundle – Retail Value $12.99 (plus $1 bonus wooden scoop!)

Will and I already use a clean liquid laundry detergent, but I am always open to experimenting with something new. This set has enough lemon-scented laundry powder to do 16 loads (32 if you have a high-efficiency machine!) a laundry stain stick, and a handmade wooden mini scoop. I used a little bit of this to handwash some of my more delicate items earlier today and I love how clean they look and how the lemon scent lingers.

Supah Stah Mulberry Chocolate Bar – Retail Value $5.99

Chocolate was the item I forgot to buy a stash of before we all ended up at home. When I saw this bar arrived in this box, I legit ate it right away. It is covered in coconut shreds and mulberries and although the chocolate is a dark 70%, it more than hit my sweet tooth! The mulberries were kind of chewy and really wonderful, while the coconut gave it some interesting texture I couldn’t get enough of. More please!

Reel Bamboo Toilet Paper – Buy 24 rolls for $29.99 (currently out of stock)

If only we knew how precious this item would be if we time traveled back a few weeks? I think I will always be grateful for the little things now. This toilet paper is made of bamboo and is “tree-free”! Normally you could order yourself a nice big box subscription of more rolls, but, unsurprisingly, they are currently sold out.

The Verdict: I totally enjoyed this month’s Earthlove box. This quarterly sub always seems to have some really cool stuff inside that I can feel great about adding to my home. This quarter’s assortment, in particular, felt very practical, which suits my current situation (of avoiding stores) just fine!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Yes, the Spring box is still available, but please be aware of the following note from Earthlove regarding shipping delays:

  1. I received this today and I am so glad I ordered! It made me happier than anything in a long time. The scents are fantastic! Thank you MSA & thank you Earthlove! I look forward to the next box!

  2. I decided to get this box after CA Found ended their subscription. While I loved the jewelry from CA Found more than anything, this Earthlove box has a lot of great personal and household items. My favorite items are the roll-on perfume and deodorant. The perfume has a predominantly rose scent which I initially didn’t think I’d like, but now I’m obsessed with it. It’s just so feminine. And the lime deodorant both smells great and works very well! I’ve already purchased a few other items from Unearth Malee. I’ve also used Meliora’s detergent before, and it’s in my regular rotation. (I haven’t had much success with their stain stick, however.) The toilet paper cracked me up. While it’s not as soft or strong as my usual TP, it’s a timely item to include!

  3. Is the code to get this as my first box or to get the starter bundle along with my first box? Just want to make sure I’m reading it right.

    • Hi Brittany,

The code is to include three extra items in your first box (a Waves of Change ring featured in our Summer 2019 box, a nylon-free bamboo toothbrush from Truly Eco-Friendly, and an organic EO blend “Uplift” from Roots Apothecary). The Starter bundle is valued at $36 🙂

Let us know if you have any other questions about the box!

      • Thank you for clarifying that! It confused me a little!

      • Just caved and bought with bundle code. Very excited.

  4. I thought their previous box was outstanding. This one wasn’t near as good. I feel like it was “missing” an item. I do love the smell and formula of the lotion, and the bottle itself is very sleek looking. My belabands are both black patterned and not near as sunny looking as yours.

I canceled my subscription, but now with California Found ending, I might pick it back up again.

    • Hi Beth,

We’re bummed the box fell a little short for you. The retail price of the perfume alone is $65, so you could think of it as paying for the perfume and getting eleven other eco-conscious items for free 😉

We’ll be featuring a piece of upcycled jewelry from a Californian artisan in the next box! If you’d like to suggest items to include in our upcoming boxes, be sure to fill out the feedback survey as well. Many of the items are requests from Earthlove members ^_^

      Green blessings,
      Serina

  5. This looks like a neat box to try out but why can’t they include the shipping in the price? At least raise the cost to include the shipping so we THINK we’re getting free shipping. 😏🙄😬

    • Hi Kelly,

We totally understand how much shipping sucks! Shipping is built into the price for annual members, while it is cost-shared for quarterly subscribers. We had switched to separating the price because USPS has been increasing their costs by quite a bit each year and we wanted to explicitly show how much half the shipping costs (it’s roughly $10 to ship one box to New York) as well as make it easier to increase the shipping as needed. If you’d like “free” shipping, sign up for a year 😄

      Green blessings,

      • Is UPS shipping any cheaper? And you are 100% right about the cost of shipping via USPS. Any time I have to ship anything, I about 😲😬😣😤 when I get the price. It’s ridiculous and the main reason I’ve been hesitant to sell anything on Mercari, Poshmark, etc

      • Both UPS and Fedex are far more expensive than USPS for small businesses. We’ve researched our cheapest shipping options and USPS still comes out on top (at least for us). Larger subscription boxes can absorb the cost more easily because they have millions in VC funding and use it as a loss leader to gain new subscribers (and due to economies of scale they can leverage that power for lower shipping terms). Small businesses just don’t have the resources to do that, including us.

We don’t even charge the full shipping price for our members because it would be an $8-10 cost on top of the sub box price. We settled on a cost-share model that helps mitigate this cost without anyone feeling like they are paying too much for shipping.

  6. Update: The Washington State “Stay Healthy, Stay Home” order was extended to May 4, 2020 by Governor Inslee.

    • I’m in Washington state as well and am here to agree that yes, at the moment it is now Stay at Home until May 4th.

    • That’s true! We have started batch shipping 1-2 times per week, but have a big backlog of orders so our ship time is now at about 10-14 days. No matter what, boxes will get shipped within our Spring window 🙂

      Green blessings,
      Serina

  7. Hi. On their site it says shipping is only free with an annual subscription. If you do monthly boxes you have to pay shipping. Can you confirm please?

    • Hey KC! Thanks for the callout. I changed the shipping info to reflect that annual memberships ship free while quarterly ship for $4.95 a quarter.

  8. I really enjoyed this box! I literally laughed out loud when I saw the toilet paper 🙂 I think the lotion & the perfume are tied for being my favorite items but everything was fantastic. This box was even better than the last, can’t wait to see what they have in store for summer.

    • Hey Allison!

So happy to hear you enjoyed this season’s curation ♥️

  9. Looks like a great box. And nice review, thank you. One question…. Is the toilet paper soft/thick? From the pic it looks a little thin but I dont know.

    Thank you

    • Hi M,

I just went & felt up my toilet paper so I could answer your question… It’s a little on the thin side (feels like less than a 2 ply thickness) but soft. It has a bit of texture to it too. Kind of reminds me of RV/motorhome toilet paper just a little more substantial.

      Hope that helps!

      • Thank you!

    • It is on the thinner side but feels substantial thanks to the texture. Admittedly, I buy cheap toilet paper regularly though…

      • Hahahaha thank you!
