Brown Sugar Box April 2020 “Feelin’ Myself Edition” Review
Each Brown Sugar Box includes a mini magazine that highlights the theme of the box, lists the products included, and offers interesting and inspiring articles. This month’s box is the Feelin’ Myself Edition and it is all about celebrating you!
Brown Sugar Babe Barcode T-Shirt – Listed Value $25
This pretty baby pink tee has a white barcode across the chest to remind you that everyone will be SCANNING you from head to toe. I think this T-shirt has a great message behind it and goes along beautifully with the theme of “Feelin’ Myself.” We can all use a little boost of self-confidence this month and any month. For me personally, the huge barcode across the chest isn’t really my style, but I’m sure there are some vibrant brown sugar babes out there who adore making an entrance. And this T-shirt will have all eyes on you. My one recommendation — order a size up as this pink tee runs small and is 100% cotton.
Brown Sugar Babe Phone Ring Kickstand – Listed Value $12
This adorable phone ring kickstand comes in one of three Brown Sugar Girl prints with a gold, rose gold, or silver base. I received the silver base in my box and this is my absolute favorite product in this month’s box. I think we can all say we’re relying heavily on technology nowadays for entertainment and productivity. This product is incredibly useful, and the saucy mocha-skinned babe blowing some bubble gum on the surface gives it a hip, fun vibe. This ring kickstand is convenient for hands-free video watching and the 360° rotation makes texting and taking selfies simple.
Black Girl Illustrated Zippered Canvas Tote – Listed Value $40
Black Girl Illustrated Cosmetic Bag – Listed Value $10
This lightweight canvas cosmetic bag and tote pair comes in one of five prints. I received a print with these two elegant queens in headscarves. The cosmetic bag is Izzy & Liv branded and has enough space for all your essential beauty on-the-go products. The canvas tote has two inside pockets and a waterproof lining. The tote is incredibly lightweight and great for a quick run to the store or a change of clothes at the beach. The faux leather straps are a little narrow, so I can see them biting into your shoulder a bit if you were to fill the bag too much.
The Bar Set High Reversible Necklace – Listed Value $20
A minimalistic design, this reversible engraved bar necklace has “Brown Sugar Babe” on the front and “Loved” on the back. The necklace comes in real gold, rose gold, or silver-plated. I received mine in rose gold, which I am thrilled about. Rose gold is my absolute favorite gold alloy. The clasp is easy to open and close, and the chain is exquisitely delicate; it rests like a sparkling line of stars along your neckline.
Dream Big Gold or Silver-Plated Hoop Earring Set – Listed Value $25
These earrings definitely are a statement piece and an exciting accessory in any wardrobe. They come in either gold or silver-plated, and round and triangle or square and hexagon silhouette pairing. I received the silver-plated square and hexagon set. The pairs are very lightweight, so they don’t seem as though they would be cumbersome or weigh down your earlobe even at their size. I myself only have cartilage piercings, so I won’t be getting any use out of these. But I do have some gorgeous fashion divas in my circle of friends who I know will adore these. If you like to enter a room with a bang and accent your outfit with a bold geometric pop, these earrings are definitely something you might like to try.
Lips Glossin’ Lip Gloss Trio – Listed Value $20
High-shined and pigmented, this lip gloss trio comes in two sets of three. Subscribers could receive either Set 1: Brick House, Mahogany, and Glow Girl or Set 2: Cocoa Cutie, Brown Sugar, and Glow Girl. I received Set 2. If you’re looking for a set of brightly colored lips, you are going to love this set. Each of the lip glosses are highly pigmented and give your lips a nice pop of color and a glossy shine.
Brown Sugar Babe Commemorative Enamel Pin – Listed Value $10
This third year anniversary commemorative Brown Sugar Box sisterhood pin comes in two designs. A fun, flirty tank top wearing babe, like the pin I received, or a gorgeous woman in an off-the-shoulder red dress. I love pins, I think they’re fun to personalize backpacks, jean jackets, fanny packs, and other accessories. I can’t wait for it to get a little warmer so I can pin this on a jean jacket of my own.
The Verdict: I think this month was a solid Brown Sugar Box. I love the theme of celebrating yourself and I think that is needed during this time we’re all living in. It’s so easy to stop pampering yourself in situations like this, let alone celebrate yourself. The mission behind this box is also incredibly powerful. Supporting black-owned businesses, designers, and creators who are also women is AMAZING! I loved the phone ring kickstand; it’s something I will actually use in my everyday life. The design takes something mundane and ordinary and makes it eye-catching and full of personality. I love the delicate chain on the reversible necklace, and also the fact that it’s reversible and came in my favorite gold alloy is a huge win for me. I’m not completely sold on the T-shirt because of the placement of the barcode, but I think the message of self-confidence and the color are very nice. The cosmetic bag and canvas tote aren’t something I’m going to reach for every day but will definitely get some use on occasion. I like how they are lightweight for quick, easy trips, and we can all always use another bag. I will have to regift the earrings, but I was impressed with the aerodynamic design, and I’m sure my friends will love them. The lip glosses are a neutral for me. Sometimes I wear lip gloss, most times I don’t, but these are in some pretty colors that complement my skin tone. I absolutely adore the commemorative pin and look forward to customizing my jean jacket with it in the spring. I would say this box has a good value overall and the products are diverse enough to satisfy a large range of subscribers.
