BREO BOX is a men and women's lifestyle subscription box that costs $159 ($144 with our coupon) with a focus on the latest tech, home goods, and health & fitness items. 5-8 products arrive each quarter that are always really cool items I probably haven't seen or wouldn't normally buy for myself but end up loving after using! Case in point- I'm still enjoying basil that I've been growing from the fall 2019 box

BREO BOX Review - Spring 2020

BREO BOX recently stopped including the heavier wooden boxes and they've switched to a more lightweight but still super giftable box with a lid that can be reused. This quarter, it's a very springtime-appropriate robin's egg blue. It also comes in a drawstring dust bag, inside of an outer cardboard box so that the nice box is kept clean.

They've also recently switched to a more informative booklet to focus on each item included for a more in-depth look at how to use them.

PhoneSoap Pro UV Sanitizer - Retail Value $119.95

This phone sanitizer came just in the knick of time, didn't it? The PhoneSoap Pro is the newest model of UV-C sanitizers from PhoneSoap and is currently sold out on their site (along with all the other models), so BREO BOX really came in with the save. What this compartment does is use 4 UV-C bulbs to neutralize surface bacteria on your phone (or anything else you can fit in there) in five minutes. It measures 9.63 inches in length and 5.38 inches wide on the outside which gives 7.13 inches of length and 4.38 inches of width on the inside that fits virtually any phone on the market. The chamber inside is 0.72 inches high so it can also fit some smaller items like keys, AirPods, and other non-porous items that you'd like to disinfect with the powerful rays. I've even put my sunglasses in there. The design is really simple: once it's plugged in, just add the item you'd like to clean and shut it. It will automatically start cleaning and turn off after the needed five minutes. If needed, you can also use your own cord to plug into the device to charge your phone while it's being cleaned. There's a slit for the cord to exit so it can stay shut while doing so and it's been created to let sound out as well so that you can hear alerts, alarms, or any other noises you need to stay connected. I've been keeping mine on a table right next to my front door so I can pop my phone in as soon as I return home.

*Please Note: UV light is clinically proven to safely kill 99.99% of bacteria and viruses upon contact. Since the . current Coronavirus is so new, there is no solid data to guarantee that UV-C will kill this particular virus, but there are indicators that it is likely. Be sure to do research and use your own judgment when purchasing and using these products specifically for Coronavirus. Here is a Consumer Reports article about Coronavirus-related questions that I found very informational and addresses UV sanitation.

Tooletries Silicone Body Scrubber - Retail Value $15.00

I've seen other versions of silicone scrubbers like these around the internet and always thought they'd certainly not be as sudsy as a puff or a good old fashioned washcloth. I was wrong. I was immediately impressed with how much body wash this scrubber held and how it didn't rinse out quickly, requiring me to add more. I was able to use the same amount of body wash that I normally do and the little silicone nubs kept it while getting sudsy and allowing me to wash my entire body. Very impressed! It also feels nice on my skin and is quite gentle. It definitely seems more sanitary than a traditional puff as well.

Bed Scrunchie - Retail Value $34.95

Here we have an item called the Bed Scrunchie that helps keep your sheets tightly on your bed and prevents any slipping. It's extremely rare for me to have my sheets slip off my bed, so I wasn't sure if this product would be all that helpful for me. I decided to give it a whirl anyhow. It claims to have a system that allows you to put it on without lifting your mattress, but the very act of changing your sheets does need a little lifting, so I was wary.

I began with my fitted sheet flat on my bed, open side up, so I could attach all of the eight plastic and nylon clips to the elastic edge of the sheet. I then snapped each clip to the large elastic band that would be used to do the "scrunching." Once everything was attached the proper way (the directions were helpful), I flipped the sheet over and proceeded to put it on my mattress as I normally would. The thing with my mattress is that it's quite high at 11 inches and some of my sheets are already a struggle to get on, especially because my mattress fits into my bed frame very tightly. I found it a little more difficult with the scrunchie attached since the plastic clips need to end up UNDER the mattress. This also means that there is some lifting involved...and boy is my mattress heavy. Needless to say, it was quite the workout and I ended up with one long side being tighter than the other once I used the bottom of the scrunchie to cinch everything. I do think that this would be a great product for thinner mattresses, or better yet, blow up mattresses since those typically have a greater chance of sheets slipping off. The other way to use this would be to convert a flat sheet to a fitted sheet, when in need. As for me- I didn't find is especially helpful for my specific bed setup.

Greater Goods Digital Luggage Scale - Retail Value $7.95

We may all be grounded at the moment, but I know in my heart that we will be able to fly again one day and that means airlines charging us for luggage, especially if it's too heavy! Many, many years ago when I was a fresh-faced 24-year-old, I moved to Los Angeles from my hometown of Cleveland with just three suitcases. One was clothing, one was shoes, and one was filled with stationery. You know, the essentials. This scale would have come in handy since upon my arrival I was told that my largest suitcase was way overweight and I had to pay an extra $50 (which may as well have been $1,000 to me back then). This small, lightweight electronic scale can be attached to any baggage and simply lifted with it in hand to show how much it weighs so that you aren't surprised at the airport like 24-year-old Marne was. It can also be stowed inside your travel bag to ensure you don't come back from a trip with too many souvenirs that will weigh you down and cost you money!

SPREADTHAT! Butter Knife - Retail Value $23.95

What a peculiar and unique item. Growing up, my mom always kept the butter in the fridge, so I can sympathize with needing a way to smoothly spread butter across toast. I'd take that cold butter out and would have to wait for it to soften or deal with the hard clumps, trying to spread them over some toasty bread. This knife is designed to take the heat from your hand to melt the butter as it spreads. And it does really work (I tested it on the backstock of butter that I DO keep in the fridge). These days, my roommate keeps a stick of butter out so that it's always soft so this isn't as dire of an item for me. It can be used on other items like peanut butter, Nutella, or soft cheese as well which will make things easier at a party with a charcuterie tray. Remember parties? 😛

Sous Shop Manual Coffee Grinder

I've never owned a manual grinder, but this will come in handy on camping trips or in the event that I don't have access to electricity! This simple grinder has a stainless steel hopper and handle, and a hard plastic vestibule to catch the grounds. I just had to adjust the grind I wanted (shown in the 4th photo), add the beans to the hopper, and get crankin'.  I'm not going to lie, it's a little time consuming and took me maybe five minutes to get the amount shown, but this is certainly worth it to get a cup of coffee. This can also be used for spices for those who may not be coffee drinkers!

Cadena Coffee Mocha Java, 12 oz. - Retail Value $25.00

What a great companion to the coffee grinder, especially at a time like this when trips to the grocery store are reserved for dire need only for me. While I prefer a lighter roast, this pound of coffee is a welcome item in this box and I've used it to make some DIY lattes since I'm not able to go to the coffee shop right now. The whole beans smell wonderful and this dark roast is nice and rich. There's also a coupon code on the bag for 10% off your next purchase from Cadena.

Here's a cup of coffee I brewed with the beans, using the manual grinder (and my pour-over set up).

Verdict: This spring's BREO BOX was filled with items that I find super useful in my daily life. I found the phone sanitizer to be particularly timely and appropriate and it'll be getting a lot of use from me. The coffee and manual grinder are a nice treat and while I can't use the luggage scale quite yet, I know it'll come in handy for future travels. I was also surprised by how well the silicone body scrubber worked. The bed scrunchie was a bit of a flop for me, but I can see how it would be super helpful in the right situation. Although I couldn't find a value for the grinder, this box has a total retail value of at least $226.80 which is almost $100 over the cost of the box. Since the next shipment is slated to ship in May of 2020, that will also be sooner than the projected restock date of the PhoneSoap Pro on their website which to me is a big draw to this box.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? The Spring 2020 BREO BOX is currently on backorder but is expected to ship again in May 2020. They only have limited quantities available so lock yours in now by signing up to receive the next shipment of this box.

Value Breakdown: At $159 for this box, you're paying roughly $22.71 per item.

I’m glad to see some people received their boxes I was so looking forward to the phone sanitizer but I received an. I’m sorry e-mail, we oversold so I can get a refund or take the summer box and I’ve been a subscriber since February 2018, very disappointed

Interesting. I ordered the Spring box on 3/22 before they officially marked it as being sold out on the website, never gotten any communication back then or recently, and am still marked as pending shipment on my account. I guess I should contact them. sigh.

I didn’t know where to post this! The Price is Right just had prizes to win with Menlo box, Nadine West, Breo Box and one other sub! I was so excited Lol!

Loved the wooden boxes.

They should keep the wooden boxes, at least as an add-on option. Or, even better- the wooden boxes could be that long-ago promised, but never materialized, perk for long-term subscribers!!

Generally like everything in our BREO boxes but I have to say the “unboxing” experience wasn’t as fun this time without the teal box and bag. Everything was just packed into a cardboard box. It seemed more like a box from amazon. I hope this isn’t the new norm.

Amanda

Agreed, but my box came with a slip apologizing for the lack of box. So, I don’t think it’s the new normal.

I loved everything in this box. Well, maybe not the coffee and grinder but that’s only because I don’t drink coffee. However, my son drinks iced coffee drinks and I’m contemplating making cold brew with the cold brew maker we received a few months back. My favorite item is the butter spreader but I must say we are getting a lot of use of the phone sanitizer. I purchased a nintendo switch a few weeks ago when Animal Crossing came out. If you take the side controllers off the main part of the switch fits in the sanitzer chamber perfectly! Which is great because the switch is used by several folks in the house so lots of handling by different people.

I was okay with not receiving the teal box (and no cloth bag; all the items were put in the outer cardboard box) until I saw that MSA received the cute box. The reason given for no cute box was that the shipment was delayed and they didn’t want to delay our boxes any longer. If they were delayed then why did the MSA receive one?

Disgusting to send a different item to influencers and reviewers than people actually paying. This box was sent at no cost, included different shipping coverings to give it a more “luxe” feel, and we get stuff in brown paper stuffed in there with a shipping label on top? Paying customers get less than what Breo gives away?

Not a big deal in the scheme of what is going on in the world today, but be consistent, Breo Box. Not cool…at all.

I miss the lovely wooden boxes. I don’t care what color a cardboard box is because it’s going into the recycling…but where’s the pretty, reusable wood box? The box was one of the reasons I subscribed annually to this.

Perfect timing to receive the Phone Soap Pro! My mom and I both receive the Breo box and neither of us had the robin’s egg box or drawstring dust cloth in our boxes. Maybe they weren’t available and just wanted to get them shipped out.

Also wanted to add, Great review! Everything in the box is a treat and will definitely get used. We received the phone soap in white and charcoal. My mom needed a bed scrunchie. I’m happy I finally signed up, this was my first Breo Box.

So glad she has a use for the scrunchie!

This is the first Breo box I have ordered in a long time and I can’t wait to get it.

Great review. Just an FYI… a letter was sent out with my box explaining there would be no “box” due to the situation going on in the world etc. All our stuff just arrived in the one outer cardboard box. It was a lil disappointing but I guess understandable. They must have made sure reviewers got a box.

We love the phonesoap. The grinder is nice. A back up incase my electric one breaks. Luggage scale is nice. We have one, but a backup is always good. (I do prefer the ones that dont use batteries.) The knife is cool to have. The bed sheet thing is points. Maybe with cheap sheets or if someone goes extended periods of time between washing. Idk I will definitely pass that onto someone if I can find someone interested in it.

Thanks, Michele. We were not aware that subscribers would not be receiving the box, so I apologize for the understandable feelings of disappointment that you and others are having. We always request that we do not receive anything different than regular subscribers when accepting a box free of charge for review, but unfortunately, it did not happen this time.
Thanks for reading and we hope to portray a more accurate unboxing for future shipments!

Wow…so not only is the wooden box gone, subscribes also didn’t get the robin blue box as well?

Yep. Giving away free what they don’t include with paid boxes.
