BoxyCharm Premium April 2020 Review

Each box comes with a card detailing the items included and often listing upcoming sales and promotions. It looks like my assortment this month is box #35.

Now, on to the items!

Smashbox LA Cover Shot Eyeshadow Palette - Retail Value $45.00

I am really impressed with the color selection within this palette. There are 16 shadows (9 matte and 7 shimmers) and a full-size pencil of the Smashbox Always On Gel Liner in black. Inspired by Los Angles, this palette really has it all: bold brights, shimmering metallics, and soft neutrals. Most of these were super pigmented and smooth, though a couple of the bright mattes felt a little sparse at first and needed some extra layers to really POP. My favorite shades would be Venice Peach, Almond, Rose Bowler, and Hang. Including a full-size liner was a nice touch, and this one is a smooth and rich gel that will complement all of the eye looks created with this palette.

I can't even imagine the endless possibilities within this palette.

BECCA Luminous Blush in 'Dahlia', 6 g - Retail Value $34.00

I am a blush-aholic and a BECCA lover, so I was thrilled that my box had this inside! I am also pleased that it is in a rich deeper shade that I likely never would have bought myself. I tend to stick to the softer peachy pinks, and in all honesty, I have that shade more than covered in my collection. This is a deep and slightly dirty rose shade that actually looks amazing on, though I really have to be light-handed. This could also easily double as an eyeshadow due to the rich pigment and blendability!

This is a heavy swatch, but I wanted you to really see the shade!

Lavido Age Away Replenishing Cream, 1.69 fl oz - Retail Value $69.00

As a gal in her 30s with dry skin, I get really ticked to see any sort of skincare created for "dry, mature skin" in my box. I have been buying anti-aging skincare since I turned 25, just to get a headstart! I really, really like this cream. It has a natural fresh scent that is soft but still noticeable, and absorbs fast, leaving behind a velvet finish. I could see myself using this as a day or night cream. The big ingredients inside are hyaluronic acid, Summer Snowflake, and grapefruit seed oil.

Opulent Beauty Crystal Clear Brush Set - Retail Value $40.00

I own (and cherish) a TON of makeup brushes. But I don't have anything like these heavyweight acrylic-handled beauties. They feel very old Hollywood glam on my vanity. The heads are dense and the synthetic bristles are fluffy and perfect for powders. This set includes a large powder brush, a flat top, and a bullet shape that is perfect for powder highlighter.

Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Liquid Lip in 'Cameron', 2.2.ml - Retail Value $24.00

If you read any of my reviews, you know I tend to dislike Juice Beauty skincare products. They seem to be formulated for oilier skin, where mine is very dry. I tend to really love their makeup line though! This liquid lipstick is pretty awesome. First, it applies and wears like an opaque gloss, with loads of shine! It stays glossy and bright, but if you end up wiping it away or losing some to a straw or a sandwich, it wears like a stain, leaving color behind beautifully. I am also in love with this hot strawberry shade. It reminds me very much of a glossy version of NARS Dragon Girl, another fave of mine that is more matte but shares some of the electric pink-red look.

Obsessed with this shade.

Wander Beauty Mile High Club Mascara, 10 g - Retail Value $26.00

My final item is one of my favorite mascaras! I have long loved this Wander formula because it strikes the perfect balance between length and volume on my lashes in a very natural way. It also stays put all day, which is a big deal for me since I have one eye that always seems to get mascara underneath it by late-afternoon while the other one stays perfect! No worries of that with this.

Verdict: My BoxyCharm Premium was really great this month. There wasn't a single dud in here for me! I am really excited about the gorgeous Smashbox palette and the hot red lippy! I also adore my new blush, cream, and clear brushes. The mascara is an old favorite of mine, and something I am glad to have more of (my mom permanently borrowed my old tube!). The value was also good this month, coming to a total of $238.00, which makes the cost of $35 for this box feel like a huge bargain.

What do you think of the April 2020 BoxyCharm Premium Box?

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Almost subscribed.. But I think ill end up with a box full of products I wouldn’t touch and would need to sell on eBay.

I used to give a lot away, but stopped. Most people just take and leave. I got too resentful. It was my only use anyhow for some.

I liked all the palettes this month and did not get one. I picked the Becca blush for my choice and didn’t get that either. I was very disappointed with this month. There were a lot of things I liked and I didn’t get any of them.

Box twins! I really wanted the Smashbox palette and was very happy to receive it. I love gel eyeliner and I’m glad it was included. I chose the Becca blush as my choice item. I am also a blush-aholic and was very pleased with the deep rich shade.

This is my box too, but I had the opposite reaction. I am about as pale as you can get and that blush is way too dark. I had a Juice liquid lip before and it went bad so fast! The Wander mascara sadly transfer like crazy on my oily combo skin. Did I mention I am oily and acne prone? Yeah, a cream for dry mature skin is the opposite of my needs. Really disappointed that Premium started with variations. I subbed because of the better guarantee of products spoiled.

To be somewhat positive, the brushes seem nice, and I love brushes, so they’ll get use. The palette I swatched today and it seemed lackluster, but hopefully they are buildable. I have about 50 black eyeliners though, so that’s going in the pass along pile!

Wow. They sent you an AMAZING box. I could only WISH to get a box like this. I have to buy my own items I want on top of being subbed to all 3 tiers. I’m so sick of getting hair tools and stuff I cnt use or want and skincare I dont mind a thing here or there, but when it’s all skincare and haircare its upsetting.

I ended up with the farmacy and wanted a pallette 🙁

Truth be told, I had my fingers crossed for that Farmacy! I love that brand. Maybe we will both have better luck next time!

This was my first Premium Boxy, & I absolutely loved it! I also got the Smashbox Palette, but I put it up for swap since I already have a massive palette collection, & this one doesn’t have anything I’m missing. (I’d ideally like to swap it for the Violet Voss Sugar Crystals palette.) I also got the IGK hair smoothing spray (I really, really wanted this), the Lavido cream, the Nudestix coral lip, the Peach & Lily Toner (would have chosen this), & the M. Greengrass dry oil.

I did cancel for next month because I wasn’t feeling the spoilers.

I hadn’t heard of this until I was desperately scrolling through the boxycharm tag on Insta for base box spoilers, but apparently if you have “hello, charmer” printed upside-down on the front of your box (like it is in the picture of Megan’s box), you are eligible to win a bonus box by posting a photo of your box on FB, Insta, or Twitter & tagging it with both #BoxyCharm & #BoxyFlipsIt

Interesting about the box detail… I thought they just got a bad batch of boxes!

Oooo did the Violet Voss Sugar Crystals pallette come in a box?! I’ve heard a lot of people talk about that one.

It was a new subscriber bonus for the base box. It sold out really quickly.

Ash_Kay

My exact box. I agree, it was pretty good, though I gave the mascara to my older sis as I don’t wear it.

This was my exact box.

Ooooo this would be the PERFECT box for me. I love that mascara. I honestly think it’s my favorite mascara of all time. The blush looks great. Once Sephora stores reopen I may go in and see how it looks on my skin so I can buy it. Great review!

I got the brushes and mascara. The rest were different: Natasha Denona blush, Farmacy and Peach & Lily. I love my box. The smashbox palette looks really nice

What did you think of the ND blush? I Was kind of hoping for that and the Farmacy, but how can I not still be happy with this one?

This is one of the best Premium boxes. I would have been thrill to receive it. Lavido makes some of the best clean skin care in the business. That Wander mascara is THE BEST.

PS – if anyone doesn’t want their Wander mascara, I would be over the moon to have it! alicerachal at yahoo. Thank you!

I got the same box. I was really impressed with the palette – but the brushes are trash. They seem to be one of those private label companies that Boxy uses to drive up the cost of their boxes.

They included similar ones in their regular box (same brand but different name).

Great reviews. I received the same box. Thanks for the swatches since it may be awhile before I dig into mine.

The Lavido cream is amazing. It’s funny to me when I see people in their 20s who reject anything made for “mature” skin; I’m like you, got a head start on my skin before any signs were apparent and I look so much younger than my friends now that I’m in my 30s 😏

This was a great box!

Great review and enjoyable to read. I do not find the brushes to be dense compared to other brushes in my collection. I think they are just OK.
