Our Ipsy Glam Bag Ultimate March 2020 Review

We didn't receive much of an info booklet this month which was kind of a bummer because I like to read through each of the products and this has no product info.

This month our bag is teal pleather with an electric lime interior and silver studs.

Now, on to the items!

Complex Culture Angled Foundation Brush - Retail Value $35.00

This might just be my favorite brush brand of 2020! I keep getting different styles from the brand in my Ipsy boxes and I just love them! The matte grey handles are stunning and the brush heads themselves are such wonderful quality. This is a large triangular-shaped foundation brush which buffs liquid foundations beautifully, and the angles allow you to apply your product in the little corners near your eyes and nose!

Chella La Vie Eyeshadow Palette - Full Size! Retail Value $45.00

Chella is a new brand to me, and this compact is quite lovely! Inside are 4 quite large eyeshadow pans, 2 mattes and 2 shimmers. There is also a large mirror inside the lid (which is always a plus), and a double-ended brush. These colors are really nice and I like the formula too. The shimmers look chunkier in the pan than they actually do on skin, and the mattes are nicely pigmented and apply well with both fingertip and brush. The shadow pans themselves are both removable and magnetic.

Top to bottom: Femme, Instincts, Dynamic, and Vitality.

Benefit Cosmetics Brow Contour Pro - Full Size! Retail Value $34.00 (currently on sale for $17.00)

I had loads of those super fun multicolored pens with the carousel of clickable colors when I was a kid, and this is like that but for brows! At the top, there are shades for defining and highlighting your brows. Each "pen" is very small and delicate, making detail work really easy. There are two shades of included brown so your drawn-on flicks have lots of natural definition. There are also 2 shades of lighter highlighter.

Here is a shot of all 4 shades included in the pencil.

Smashbox Gloss Angeles Lip Gloss in 'Michelada', 4 ml - Full Size! Retail Value $20.00

Your girl LOVES lip gloss, and I also really enjoy Smashbox cosmetics. This shade is pure summer, a sheer orange with a reddish twist, and loads of golden and orange shimmer particles. Though this shimmer is very noticeable, it isn't a texture you feel when you rub your lips together, thankfully! This color is really pretty on bare lips though I am sure you could also layer it!

Just a little sheer orange action!

TokyoMilk Library of Flowers 'Honeycomb' Handcreme, 2.3 fl oz - Retail Value $20.00

Big Margot Elena fan here, and with all this hand washing, I am going through hand creams like a bandit! I really love this sweet honey scent. There is something comforting about it, but also sophisticated. I think it is because the honey scent is also blended with sugar, vanilla, and some florals too. My hands are really enjoying the fast-absorbing and softening cream, and since putting on perfume feels a little silly stuck at home, this is a nice and fragrant alternative.

Youth to the People Superfood Cleanser, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $2.25 (Buy 8 fl oz for $36.00)

This is one sample I wish had been larger! I have been wanting some of this cleanser ever since I read a recent review by Marne. She was totally right! This is one enjoyable cleanser. It kind of smells like some sort of super healthy green juice you would do in a shot at a smoothie shop and lathers up so beautifully. It was wonderful for removing the day's dirt and makeup and left my skin soft, bright, and smooth. My only complaint is that getting the gel formula out of this glass bottle is a waiting game, but that is ok. I have loads of time on my hands right now.

Dermadeli Nourishing Eye Serum, 5 ml "compact size" - Retail Value $12.00

I enjoy a good eye cream or serum, but this one just wasn't my cup of tea. I think that might be because I prefer a little more of a moisture boost for that delicate skin, and this was more of a serum that absorbed immediately without leaving really any change in texture. I also think the price is really high for the size of the vial. It does have kelp in the ingredients though, a botanical that my skin tends to love, so I plan on trying this out over a longer period of time.

Face Hero Face Oil, 0.34 fl oz - Estimated Value $11.56 (Buy a full-size 1 fl oz for $34.00)

This is one of my favorite oils since I received a full-size last year! It smells great, absorbs into my skin quickly, and makes a great additive to my moisturizer if I need a little less oil. The blend of buriti, jojoba, and rosehip oil has loads of antioxidants and essential fatty acids to help protect and nurture your skin's moisture barrier without going overboard. If you are on the hunt for a great face oil without the sticker shock of some brands, this is a great place to start.

Hey Honey Show Your Glow Beauty Mask, 15 ml - Estimated Value $19.20 (Buy a full-size 50 ml for $64.00)

Yay! I am always pretty thrilled when a mask arrives that isn't clay heavy. My dry skin much prefers these anti-aging moisturizing types. This is also fun to apply because it is a soft metallic gold. It stays moist on your face, and when I washed off after 10 minutes my skin felt like velvet! I also noticed a reduction of redness which is a huge bonus for someone like me. The shea and squalane in this formula also gave my skin a moisture boost throughout the rest of the day.

Sunday Riley CEO Serum, 15 ml - Estimated Value $42.50 (Buy a full-size 30 ml for $85.00)

I like Sunday Riley, and this bottle arrived just as I was emptying my full-size bottle. This is a great vitamin C serum that is fantastic for evening out skin tone and brightening its appearance. It is also a cream, so in addition to the serum benefits, you also get a nice moisture addition that makes your skin look radiant and plump. It also helps restore the skin's firmness over time. I like to apply this at night before my heavier night cream!

Christophe Robin Purifying Scalp Scrub with Sea Salt, 40 ml - Estimated Value $8.62 (Buy a full-size 246 ml for $53.00)

Will is going to be SO happy! This is hands down his favorite hair product and one of the only things he gets excited about me bringing home. This chunky scrub is filled with sea salt and feels great on my scalp when I massage it into my roots. I tend to need a lot more of this than Will does because my hair is so thick, so I tried to use this sparingly so he could enjoy. It feels moisturizing as you apply it, but when you rinse it away your hair literally SQUEAKS with cleanliness. I exclusively use this on my roots because my strands would be super frizzy if I used it lower. It is an excellent monthly scalp reset.

PIXI by Petra Glow Mist, 2.7 fl oz - Full Size! Retail Value $15.00

This is another familiar product, and one that I also love. I am a mist enthusiast. I use them all the time! Before my night routine, before and after makeup, as a pick me up throughout the day, you name it! This PIXI one is probably my most affordable favorite. It is a solution that has two parts so you shake it before you use it. Inside there is a solution with all the good stuff: aloe, propolis, argan oil, and more. It is an instant moisture veil on skin and also does a fantastic job of setting makeup while giving a dewy finish.

111SKIN Rose Gold Brightening Facial Treatment Mask - Retail Value $32.00

I truly adore the luxurious 111Skin sheet masks, though I can't ever imagine paying this much for ANY sheet mask! This was one of those gel types and it felt incredible on my stressed-out skin. I wish there was a sheet mask like this for my mind right now! It was cooling, calming, and moisturizing. What more can I ask for?

111SKIN Celestial Black Diamond Eye Mask - Retail Value $15.00

Following in the footsteps of that amazing face mask, I applied these black diamond eye gels. They further amplified the benefits of the whole face mask, but in a concentrated way to the delicate skin under my eyes. I don't know of anything that would get rid of my bags right now, but this at least made me feel human!

Verdict: This box has a value of around $312.13 which is fantastic for a $50 investment. If I had one complaint, it would be that some of the samples were just ridiculously small, but other than that this was a really fun assortment filled with new treats and old friends. I loved the balance of skincare and makeup too, because to be quite honest I haven't been wearing much makeup since I am staying home, but that does give me a lot more time to work on my skin!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Still haven’t received my bag was mailed out beginning of March still shows undelivered. Contacted ipsy they said they would send out another bag, minus my add on brush set because they ran out. 🙁 Also warned me it could be completely different from the bag I was supposed to get. They finally got it right on that bag was so excited for it. So bummed out right now. Grateful that they could send out another bag but bummed out. Was so looking forward to my new brush set desperately need them. 🙁

I thought the spoilers were so great, but I got almost this same box and was pretty disappointed. Hardly any makeup, even though my preferences heavily favor makeup. The palette was fine, but nothing to write home about. Also didn’t like the small sizes. I’ve been disappointed by the 2 times I got Ultimate, but here I am, keeping it for April and skipping my GB and GBP based on spoilers, haha.

The Pixi mist has such a nice, fine spray. I think when I’m done with it, I’m going to try to repurpose the packaging for other products, since not all pump sprays produce such a nice mist.

I have a couple of mists from Pacifica and Grace & Stella that need new homes, thanks for recommending that!

I love the 111 Skin masks and will gladly take them every month! If anyone is looking for them at a reduced price, there are lots available on Poshmark.

This was my first ultimate bag, and I loved it! I chose the Sunday Riely and was so happy with the other things I received. I wish the April spoilers were better. I’m more looking for skincare vs makeup. I got he skin11 masks and the Margot Elena cream. Those items alone make it so worth it for me. ❤️

Too many tiny size samples! I’m hoping the spoilers for ultimate get better some day I’ve never been compelled to sign up for ultimate.

Did anyone else get a random package from Ipsy this past week? I got an envelope with a bottle of the R+Co dark waves fragrance gel. Nothing else inside, no note no nothing. It was a nice surprise but I’m confused as to why they sent it lol.

I got a 111Skin Vitamin C serum. Apparently it was to make up for less than promised full size items in March Ultimate bag? i never got an email or anything saying that, though, like some people did.

Zo

I received that as well. I had received an email from them approx. a week prior to that explaining that there were only 7 full-sized items instead of the 8 full-sized promised items so there were sending me an “accommodation” item. I didn’t even notice there were only 7. I do like the unique R+Co fragrance gel.

Ah, I didn’t see the email. I wondered if that was why. Maybe it was to replace my manna kadar blush cause that was a sad full size haha. I’ve been wanting to try the gel so I was happy to get it!

Jackie

I read in comments on msa that people were getting that, but I forget why. Maybe they got the pixi spray in a past box as well or something?

Only 6 full size items not including the masks. No one counts masks as full size – including ridiculously overpriced ones that you always get for cheaper in sub boxes. 🤔

Julia

They send you the full mask. Not just a patch to cover the forehead or one cheek. A mask *is* a full-size item. You can always cancel if that fact annoys you.

Jamey

Yeah. But like others had said with money being tight now, and the world so crazy they and all boxes are really going to have to step it up and bring it because people are going to have to pick and choose things.

MzKayleeJames

Yeah, it’s interesting so I’m gonna keep an eye in them. They are considering the skin111 masks and the Sunday Riley as full size. The SR is a special Ipsy exclusive size but they sent out the normal full size before so that’s confusing. I got the same bag except instead of the smashbox I got a thrive gloss and instead of the pixi I got a tiny manna kadar blush. Now they consider that full size but it’s tiny and cheap packaging and they send it out in the small Ipsy bags so I wasn’t happy about that. I’d have loved to have gotten the pixi. In the fence about skipping April. They need to really step things up right now because I’m sure a lot of bags are on the chopping block for people, myself included.

I have a collection of Complex Culture brushes. And I for the Chella palette and the boxed hand cream. The only problem is that I think they are all so nice and pretty that I don’t want to use them. Lol
