Switch is a jewelry rental service that lets you try out designer jewelry without the commitment. You pick your favorite pieces and try them out for as long as you want with a relatively small monthly fee. Switch also offers the option to purchase jewelry pieces at a discounted member price. For every month that you’re a member, you get a $10 credit that you can use towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry at the special member price.

This is a review of the $69 Black Membership that includes 3 pieces a month.

Switch offers free Priority shipping via USPS (1-3 day expected arrival). Each package comes with a prepaid USPS return label, so you can leave your return for your mail carrier or drop it off at the post office if you’re the nervous type. Shipping is free both ways, and they just ask that you package your items just as they were received to return them. It’s important to save the mailer and packaging for your return.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

Switch Subscription Box January 2020 Review

Everything arrived in a super slick and very high-end looking black box. Inside, there were multiple info cards explaining all the deets about this subscription. All of these cards are really informative and helpful in explaining all the facets of this service. They cover care tips, return instructions, and even a guide if you fall head over heels in love with a piece, which... does... happen.

Let's see what I picked this month!

Hermes Twisted Leather Cuff – Retail Value $650.00, Member Price $495.00

Oh, look, another cuff. Sorry, not sorry! I tried to kind of select my trio of items in a loose theme this month, and this cuff was the launching point. I loved the mix of red and gold. Though I am generally not someone who liked red, I think lately I have been feeling drawn to the more tomato or poppy shades, and this twisted red leather and brass cuff was calling my name. The leather does have a slight patina from wear, but that doesn't bother me much, as I like aged leather, even in red. It was slightly adjustable (with a lot of effort) and looked super cool on my wrist.

This isn't a piece I think I would ever buy, but I did like borrowing it.

Bea Bongiasca Tendril Crawler Enamel Earrings– Retail Value $690.00, Member Price $685.00

These were just so weird I had to borrow them. They also have that poppy red I am loving and are one of my fave combos: gold and enamel. These are 9-carat rose gold to be precise, and they are oh-so-cool. The front part of the earring is a pale pink marquis-shaped stud crystal, while the back has this odd red swirl that reaches around the outside of your lobe and curls inwards. I loved these as-is, but I can't help but think if the stud was a killer high sheen pearl they would be even better! These earrings are simple but quirky, and speak to my love of artists like Miro and Kandinsky.

I love these little weirdos.

Rebecca Pinto Luna Earrings – Retail Value $500.00, Member Price $450.00

Rounding out our trip this month are these awesome moon-inspired 14-carat gold studs. I love anything celestial-inspired and I have been leaning towards more simple earrings lately, so these were a must-borrow. I absolutely adore how they drape off of my lobe. They look super chic with my hair up in a messy bun and are somehow just a little edgy!

These are actually a great summary of my style vibes lately: minimal, but memorable.

The Verdict: My Switch assortment this month was a home run. Everything was beautifully made and easy to wear. I love that I followed a loose palette this month and I might explore that in the future. My favorite piece this time might have to be those red enamel and crystal earrings. They felt like wearing little mini sculptures and I had multiple people ask about them! I wore both the cuff and gold moon earrings together the next day with an oversized grey sweater and my hair up and again had a complete stranger approach to ask about my jewelry. Now if only I could just buy all of them!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? Pieces can get snatched up quickly, and the number of pieces they have per style varies. You may or may not see these pieces in their available inventory list – but you might just see something you like even more! This isn’t a “styled” subscription, meaning you can pick exactly what you want from the available list – it’s not selected for you based on an algorithm or your preferences.

Value Breakdown: In this shipment, I tried out $1840.00 of jewelry for $69 – which is about 3.75% of their retail value and a great deal if it works for your budget and needs. It’s pricier than Rocksbox (which offers mid-range designer jewelry) but less than Rent the Runway (which offers designer jewelry, accessories, and clothes, too).

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I honestly do not understand how those earrings can be worth $700. Can someone please explain it to me? I’m being serious, not snarky.

I think some of it is the “designer” element (always more pricey with a fancy name) and the other is that underneath the enamel they are 9 k rose gold. I was also a little surprised that they would cover up nearly all of the gold with enamel, but I also love enamel so I was like “sure!” haha

Love your choices as usual… you have great taste! I’ve been considering this sub for awhile, so I was browsing their site to see what they have, and they have so much! How do you keep yourself from buying?

It would be harder to resist if I had more disposable income when it came to jewelry. I do have a certain piece I rented before that I will be purchasing if tax season goes well though! 😉

I don’t know about you, but the nearly $700 price tag on crystal and enamel earrings you be a pretty good deterrent on making a purchase. Lol!
I do love the cuff, but honestly I’m just not careful (organized?) enough to trust myself and bank account to not misplace something.

So true Jo, lol! I’m just imagining wearing a vintage Chanel bangle for a month & loving it & then having to give it back… sad face
