Style Plan by Frank And Oak Review - February 2020

I received this page of info with my shipment that lets me know that I can find details about my clothing in my account. They also want me to know that they are a Certified B Corporation. Learn more about that here.

Here I am doing my best Sara pose (and not pulling it off as well as her 😉) with the items from this month's box. I only chose two items this month because I went for a big-ticket item: the Nevasca Boots!

Frank And Oak Smooth Crewneck in Black, size medium - Retail Value $39.50/Member Price $34.50

A casual, simple, black loose top? Don't mind if I do! This crewneck is new to Frank And Oak and is made with 100% heavy organic cotton that has been bio-polished (a finishing process that enhances fabric quality by decreasing the pilling tendency and fuzziness of knitted fabrics). I like the weight and fit of this top and the 3/4 length sleeves are nice n' loose so that I can easily roll them up if I need a little air. I appreciate the marriage of comfort and quality that this shirt delivers!

Frank And Oak Nevasca Water Repellent Boot in Black, size 6 - Retail Value $249.00/Member Price $217.50

I've been wanting some sturdier boots for hiking in sloppy conditions (my favorite time to hike, no joke) and these babies caught my eye- mainly due to how sustainably made they are and how well-crafted they look. I recently decided to stop eating meat (fish is still a go... baby steps) and even though I still sport leather since I believe it will last longer than most faux-leather pieces out there, these seemed like a really good idea and a way to dip a toe into non-leather goods. Not only do they feature the more sustainable bio-leather, but they are also made with a chrome-free upper sole, recycled wool felt lining, and a recycled rubber outsole.

The boots weren't originally in my Style Plan box, but I reached out to a stylist via the chat on the website and she was able to add them for me! It's that easy to give something a try in your Style Plan. She even let me know that they run big so she added a size 6 (the smallest size available) instead of the 6.5 I had listed as my size. I was a little concerned that they might still be a bit big but she reminded me that wearing a thick sock is standard with boots like this. It turns out, she was right. Although the toe is roomy, it feels good to walk in without suffocating my piggies.

Did you want to see them on? Good! I had Andy take some pics of them on my feet as well! I even swapped out the laces in the last slide for your enjoyment. The more I wore these throughout the day, the more comfortable they felt. Super warm and really tough, these babies are great for the crappy cold sleet we've been getting in Pittsburgh lately.

Verdict: I'm really happy with my first pair of footwear from the Style Plan by Frank And Oak as well as my new loose 3/4 tee. I can't wait to take a winter hike in these babies and really put them to the test. I think this subscription is perfect for those of us who mainly wear basics and have a penchant for sustainable clothing and ethical practices.

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? The Style Plan by Frank And Oak uses your preferences and tastes to curate a mix of styles just for you, so you may have different options than I did. You can sign up for your own Style Plan to see what the styling team will pick for you!

ACTIVE DEAL: Get $35 off your first month of Style Plan!
CODE: MSA35

Value Breakdown: The retail price for the two items I received this month is $288.50, but with the discounted member pricing it comes to $252.00. That's a savings of $36.50 for this box.

I love that black top, and finally decided to get a subscription. The way the clothes look on the models is not appealing to me, but I’m excited to see how they fit on my body. Fingers crossed.

Your approach to a more sustainable lifestyle is also a great read! Thanks for writing out your thought process about the boots and laying out all the factors that made them so appealing, including how great they look.
I hope they last a while on those fun, mucky trails.

Thanks, Melissabee! I’m far from perfect but I like knowing there are some options out there.

Marne, you look great (as always). Those boots are bomb!!! And thank you for trying out some animal-friendly footwear. I appreciate your super cool approach to what is now a very MSA sensitive subject!!! 😸✌🏻️🐮

My pleasure, DoxyMama! Everyone can come to their own conclusions about alternative materials, of course. If you told me a year ago that I’d be buying non-leather boots I would’ve said “No way” but these just look and feel so sturdy. I think the big takeaway for me with non-leather goods is HOW they’re made AND the quality. I wouldn’t buy boots from F21 for instance, but these I’ll definitely put money on in a bet to last.
