Simply Earth Essential Oil Recipe Box Review

The first things I grabbed from the package were two cards with a note from Katie (the curator and aromatherapist behind this box!), an intro to Simply Earth's "Essentials Oils for Beginners" course, and all the info on the included oils this month. It also let me know that 13% of my purchase cost was donated to Call to Freedom, a non-profit dedicated to providing survivors of human trafficking supportive services. It makes me feel extra excited to support companies that give back and deliver awesome boxes.

Also included were 6 recipe cards and coordinating stickers to use on all my handmade items!

Now, for the oils I received this month:

Lemon Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $7.99

From Simply Earth:

Lemon oil has been historically recognized as a cleanser and reached the height of fame when the British Navy used lemon to counteract the effects of scurvy. This citrus fruit is energizing, cooling, and promotes mental clarity.

Ahhhh, lemon. So crisp and clean. My favorite surface cleaner in my house is a mix of white vinegar, water, and citrus essential oils. Lemon is a major component of this blend! In addition to smelling fantastic, it is also a natural disinfectant.

Ho Wood Essential Oil, 15 ml - Retail Value $9.99

From Simply Earth:

Ho Wood Essential Oil has recently become popular as a replacement for Rosewood Essential Oil which is a threatened species.

I am floored by how beautiful this oil smells. It is like a magical blend of wood and florals. It was gorgeous alone in my diffuser and even prettier with a little bit of ylang ylang and lavender. This is the perfect wood oil for springtime.

Clary Sage Essential Oil Blend, 15 ml – Retail Value $18.99

From Simply Earth:

This kid-safe oil is a favorite for relieving pain symptoms. It's sweet herbaceous aroma is calming and uplifting perfect for soothing the mind along with the body.

Oh wow, this is an expensive oil to find in my box! It is also quite dreamy. Imagine a super soft sage with a floral undertone and you have a pretty accurate idea of this scent. It is delicate, so I tried it solo in my diffuser so it wouldn't become overrun with other oils and it gave my bedroom such a delightful and calm perfume.

Relief Blend Essential Oil, 15 ml – Retail Value $13.99

From Simply Earth:

In life, we are unfortunately subject to occasional discomfort. Relief Essential Oil Blend is a warming blend that can help relieve that discomfort.

I was immediately in love with this blend of rosemary, juniper, eucalyptus, peppermint, and copaiba essential oils. It is a warming oil, meaning it is perfect for massage oils (which we will dive into next!). It is herbal but calming, and feels just the right amount of medicinal.

Amber Spray Bottle (2 oz) - Retail Value $2.99

Little bottles like this are perfect for taking your on-the-go essential oils blends or making spray-on moisturizers with coconut oil.

Small Amber Bottle

How freaking cute is this little bottle? It is perfect for any handmade creams you may whip up, or the perfect travel amount of massage oil.

Avocado Oil, 2 oz

My skin was been SO dry lately! I was super excited to see this bottle of avocado oil in this box because I love it for moisturizing my legs and arms.

For this reason, I decided to give the Relief Massage Oil recipe a try.

Although my box came with an amber bottle, I decided just to make enough for a single-use for my arms and legs. I started by adding some avocado oil into a glass dish.

This alone would be enough to give my skin a major moisture boost, but I was eager to add in some essential oils too.

Since I was making a significantly smaller batch I only used 2-3 drops of the Relief essential oil blend. This was more than enough to give the oil a great fragrance without being too much.

Avocado oil isn't the heaviest oil I have ever used, but it still packs a punch! This stuff felt incredible on my calves and upper arms and the light scent was very relaxing. It also had a just barely there warming sensation which made it feel more than a little spa-like!

Verdict: Simply Earth was a knock-it-out-of-the-park home run for me this month. Each of the oils were top notch (as usual) but they also felt like they had been custom picks for the sort of scents I love! I think this will likely become more and more apparent the closer we get to spring, because I love herbs, woods, and florals, and I can only imagine what surprises the ladies of this subscription have for us. The recipes were easy and fun, and I loved making the massage oil. If you are an oil enthusiast with a love of DIY, give this box a try. I bet you will love it!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No—if you subscribe today, you'll receive the Starter Box as your first box as well as the big bonus box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $39.00 (with free shipping) so each of the 7 items has an average cost of $5.57.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

Is there any way to opt out of certain oils? I am massively allergic to eucalyptus oil of any sort and it would bum me out to receive an oil I can’t use. Otherwise, this box looks fantastic

As far as I know, you can’t opt out but you can exchange any oil or even skip the whole box. I’ve done exchanges many times. Usually because I already have it or because I’m not a fan of the notes of a particular oil or blend. They charge $2 for each exchange and they’ll include it/them in the monthly box so no extra shipping. 👍 Their only caveat is that the newly selected oil value cannot be more than $2 more than the oil you are exchanging with. They even do the math and give you a list of oils to choose.

I like I can exchange oils but I’d prefer to be able to select any oil I want after paying the difference if it’s more than $2. Also, the label sheet will not include any exchanges. I know that’s a minor detail (nearly invisible, frankly) but my OCD kicks in when some of my bottles don’t have the cute labels. 😖

Hope that helps. 🙂
