January 2020 MoonBox “Rise” Review

MoonBox sends out an info guide every month describing the featured items included in the box as well as instructions on how they should be used. It also gives a general overview of the major cosmic events happening this month. This month has a New Moon in Capricorn; MoonBox suggests that this is the perfect time to rise to the occasion and follow through! Ambitious Capricorn reminds us to get our acts together and succeed with whatever you're striving for.

MoonBox is making some changes starting next month. They will now be shipping so that you receive your box around the 20th of each month, and they are allowing you to customize your box more by swapping out items in your box.

Dr. Botanicals Moroccan Rose Face Oil, 1.01 fl oz - Retail Value $19.90

Check out this beautiful bottle! This limited edition packaging is gorgeous, and who doesn't love brightening, vegan-friendly skincare? I drench my face every night in pure rosehip oil, so I was pretty excited to try this... until I read the ingredients. The blend of almond and olive oil for a dry, sensitive complexion sounds amazing, but when you mix in hydrogenated castor oil and benzyl alcohol, I'm afraid that's when I jump ship. I used this on the back of my hands, and it felt cool when I applied it first and after rubbing it in it almost instantly dried into my skin; its consistency reminds me more of a liquidy serum. The scent smells so much like my favorite bougie fragrance, Maison Margiela's 'REPLICA' Lipstick On, so I am pretty disappointed that this one won't work for me, but I'll definitely use it to moisturize my body.

Moonbox Pendulum - Listed Value $12

This is the first pendulum I've received in a box! Although I am not very familiar with the usage of pendulums, I know that they are often used for spiritual healing and for those seeking answers. I am having trouble accessing this item on the Gaia Collective website, so I am not sure what this crystal is, but I think it is gorgeous, along with the little crystal embellishments.

Scentuals Organic Hand Repair Cream, 100 ml - Retail Value $12.49)

Dry winter hands, rejoice! Now is the perfect time for a great hand cream, and this one seems promising. This moisturizes using shea butter, cocoa butter and aloe, leaving your hands feeling soft and supple. I am also impressed at how hydrated my hands feel, even though this product sinks into the skin quickly without leaving any product behind to feel filmy or greasy. Love it!

Zen and Meow Moon Phase Crystal Grid - Retail Value $9

At first, I thought this was a coaster (which it could be), but it is a tiny crystal grid! The unfinished birch wood looks great with its moon phase design and will look even better with all of my smaller crystals on it.

Bonus: MoonBox Essential Oil Roll-On

These roll-on essential oils are so handy! I am picking up notes of patchouli and mint in this blend, which is the exact smell that comes to mind when I think of essential oils. This was a nice gift MoonBox offered to celebrate the beginning of a new year.

Black Tourmaline

This crystal represents one of my favorite ideas: being present. Not a day goes by that I don't think to myself how consumed we all are worrying about the future and the past and how much I could be missing out on from not being in the moment. It is also a purifying stone that could transform dark energy into positive, lighter vibes. This stone is relatively small, but it is pretty dense for its size.

The Verdict: MoonBox's January "Rise "Box was filled with items to help you rise to (and conquer!) the occasion. I feel this box gets better as time goes by, and I love their mix of beauty and lifestyle items. The value of this box usually just about meets its subscription cost, and if you're someone who loves astrology and crystals, then this is a great box to treat yourself with each month.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, but sign up by 1/22 to get the February box!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $34.00 + $2.00 shipping, which means that each of the 5 items (not including the bonus roll-on) in the box has an average cost of $7.20.

I’m a self-proclaimed “cool mom” who loves a little, who am I kidding, a lot of razzle-dazzle. I have been box-obsessed for over 10 years, and I am always on the hunt for new beauty, fun flair and trendy clothing boxes. A fun night for me includes an exfoliating foot mask and a bag of Dot's Pretzels while binging Rupaul’s Drag Race.

One way to use the pendulum: ask to be shown yes and no then ask yes or no questions!

A little hard to tell on the pendulum, but I’m thinking cacoxenite amethyst – better lighting and it might be easier to make a guess?

I follow your reviews of this each month and love the box. I wish it was a little less expensive to fit into my budget.
