Here is our info card complete with all of our items.

Our bag this month is a silver faux leather and marble combo with a wrist strap so you can use it as a chic wristlet. The inside is pink!

Now, on to the items!

Hanalei Lip Treatment, 15 g - Retail Value $20.00

Oooooh, it is that time of year where my lips are UNHAPPY. The cold and wind really strip their moisture, and the fact that I pick at them doesn't really help either. I am always stashing high-quality tubes of balm everywhere. This brand is new to me, and I really like the packaging. Thankfully, the product itself is also very nice. The main ingredient in this formula is lanolin, which can be hit or miss for some (it does have a very distinct taste and scent) but I happen to love it because it really works on my lips. It also is awesome for chapped elbows and knees too! This is the clear formula but this treatment also comes in different tints too. It has a bit of a sweet taste and a super-smooth texture.

Juice Beauty STEM CELLULAR Anti-Wrinkle Booster Serum, 1 fl oz - Retail Value $80.00

I personally don't like this product or brand very much, but I am not going to count it against this bag as a whole. I simply don't find Juice Beauty skincare to work for my dry skin. I have friends with more normal or oily skin and they swear by it. This is a nicer expensive item that just sadly isn't for me. The serum itself is full of fruit stem cells and antioxidants that are really great additives to most any skin routine. The feel is really light and clean, perfect for skin that doesn't need a moisture boost (mine does), but I personally don't really see a difference in my skin with this one. I will happily pass this along to that friend who will undoubtedly be thrilled. This item also made an appearance in my November Ipsy Ultimate.

Wander Beauty Wanderess Rush Eyeshadow Palette – Retail Value $25.00

This item also made an appearance in my November Ipsy Ultimate, so I feeling a little weird about seeing two items from a pretty recent Ultimate, though this is the Plus review and perhaps not everyone else gets to review all three tiers! I liked this palette before and I still like it now. OTW is one of my favorite shades for all over lid coverage because it is soft enough to just apply with a finger in a rush and it still looks so amazing on. The other shades are all nicely pigmented and even though they are certainly on the natural side of the color spectrum, you can still create some really dramatic looks with this set.

Top to bottom: Charge, Blitz, OTW, Hustle, Avenue, and Swift

Nature's Cartel 'Gin and Platonic' Lipstick – Retail Value $16.00

I love lipstick and I love new-to-me brands! I haven't even heard of this one, but they have some really lovely things on their pretty website. I liked this formula a lot too; it felt like a satin/matte hybrid because it was a flat finish but without the dryness. This shade is a rich rust-red that has enough orange to be different but still looks great on most complexions. I do recommend exfoliating your lips before wearing though, because I applied it to my chapped lips and it looks patchy. This was 100% more of a "me" issue than a lipstick problem though!

I love this shade and the coverage is awesome!

Sugar Cosmetics Wingman Waterproof Eyeliner, 0.05 oz – Listed Value $11.99

I know most of us probably have enough black eyeliner to last us the rest of 2020, but here is another one! I do really like this formula though, considerably more than others I have. It is amazingly waterproof even on my oilier lids. I actually had to break out an oil balm cleanser to remove this, which might not be ideal for me in terms of everyday wear, but I am going to hold onto this one for fancier occasions or late-night events. The tip is also really nice, a flexible felt marker.

Verdict: This box has a value of $152.99 which is exceptional for a $25 box. I am a little torn on how to give a verdict this month because the hero item was great quality, just not for me, and two of the items were recent repeats from Ultimate. I think if I was looking at these items as if I hadn't seen them before, this would be a pretty highly rated box. I really love the palette repeat. It is a great assortment of colors and totally wearable for anyone. The Juice product does have a really high retail, and a lot of people love this brand! The two lip items were both winners for me and I love that I have some new brands to follow. The eyeliner was also great quality and though I don't need more, I will be holding on to it. If you haven't seen any of these items before in your boxes or bags, I imagine you will really love this assortment and its high value!

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today? You'll likely start with January as your first month. As of publication, there was no Ipsy waitlist!

Value Breakdown: This box costs $25. Here is approximately what you are paying per product:

  • Hanalei Company Lip Treatment $3.27
  • Juice Beauty Serum $13.07
  • Wander Beauty Palette $4.09
  • Nature's Cartel Lipstick $2.61
  • Sugar Cosmetics Eyeliner $1.96

Alternatively, each item has an average cost of $5.00.

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am having money taken out of my account. And have never received nothing from ipsy. So someone needs to cancel my subscription or return my money. Not happy at all.

January was my worst Ipsy Plus box ever!! That lipstick smelled funny & it was so hard to get enough on my lips. I got Ahava skin lotion (big deal) and two strange highlighters that didn’t show on my medium olive skin at all.
Going back to Boxy I think.

I absolutely LoVed my January GBP. Maybe because I lean more toward skin care than makeup, but, must wear lipstick all day. I was surprised to read that Juice Beauty doesn’t work for your dry skin, as I too, have dry skin and just love it, however I use it as a serum with a cream over it. MY JANUARY BAG: JUICE BEAUTY Serum (choice), WANDER palette, NATURE’S CARTEL lipstick in 90’s Nostalgia (perfect mauve for me, but had to use coconut oil base because it sticks!), AHAVA DAILY MOISTURIZER (LoVe everything from this line – great fit for my skin), Purlisse 4-n-1 eye serum ( I haven’t found one of their products that impresses me – total bummer because I love all of their ingredients). I treated myself to the 111Skin Cryo Serum as an add-on. Unfortunately, this item was only 1/2 full. I only got one product that I won’t use – so it’s was a very good month for me. NOT HAPPY with the Spoilers for next month, tho. I’m hoping that the add-ons will lift my spirits because even my choice product didn’t excite me – it was like pick the lesser of all evils.

That Hanalei lip treatments’ distinctive taste is like plastic balloons to me. This was the worst bag yet, for me. Giving the GBP one more month. The Ultimate is getting worse every month. Seems like the more you spend the worse they get! The value of your box was way more than mine. Not happy at all this month with my bag.

I think the lanolin is the offender. My Dr. Lipp’s Nipple Balm tubes have a similar “taste” and they’re 100% lanolin. Not what I prefer, but I do find that it works and it stays put longer than some of the thinner lip treatments I have. Dr. Lipp’s site recommends also using their stuff as a cuticle/nail treatment so you might find that to be a better use for the Hanalei!

Mine contained completely different products and Ioved all. I love Plus.

I know the retail price shouldn’t be a determining factor in value, but wow your box has significantly higher dollar value than mine! Mine was sheet masks, the same lipstick in the other color, the same black eyeliner, the small Huda palette, and the eye cream sample. Excluding my pick (the palette), which I could have gotten as an add-on in my regular bag, all the items weren’t for me or inline with my profile. I ended up canceling. Low retail value is fine if you like and will use the items, but GBP just doesn’t seem to be for me since Ultimate came along.

The eye cream was full size? Unless it wasn’t the Purlisse? Which means they owe you a full size item😕

Alice

The Purlisse Eye Adore was my choice item and it’s full size. I’ve tried a lot of eye products and this one may be the best. It’s definitely the silkiest.

The makeup bag was so cute this month and I love that it doubles as a wristlet. I also received the Gin and Platonic lipstick and I like it. I use a lipstick primer before I use it and it glides on smoothly. I also received the Sugar eyeliner and since I only use eyeliner on my lower lash line this didn’t work for me.

Luna

Megan, I really appreciated your objective take on the bag’s contents in terms of not comparing the contents to past bags since not everyone subs to both Ultimate & Plus. 🙂

Jeanette

Thank you for for the great review. I am just really disappointed with this bag lately. The ability to shop and purchase add ons is the only thing keeping me but I am afraid I am going to have to pull the plug soon. Too many repeats.

I wasn’t super thrilled with the Nature’s Cartel. I received the other color, and found it to be a bit dry and waxy with a smell to match. Wondering if I just got a bad one. My daughter didn’t mind it as much, so I gave it to her.

Reply ButtonReply

LJ

Mine was super waxy and had no scent. It’s been snowy where I live and it took over two weeks to arrive, so maybe the formula is temperature sensitive? It was a miss for me too.

Bonnie

I got the other color too, but I loved it and the smell! Different strokes…

The constant recycling of the same products over and over again is one of the major reasons I stopped subscribing to Ipsy months ago. They really know how to run it into the ground. And I get that some people like getting second chances if they didn’t get an item the first time, but those Huda 9 pans showed up every month in one form or another for nearly a year straight and I’m still not convinced we’ve seen the last of them. Just looking at them in the spoilers every month has made me hate them and loathe to use the one I have, lol. Murad is another one they do this with, looks like Juice Beauty is in for the same fate.

Cycle through the product for a couple of boxes and then move on already. Or give it a rest for awhile and let it pop up again later on. Ipsy has gotten incredibly stale.

The wandress was a surprise fave of mine a few months back. It was my staple palette for the holidays. If you take avenue and do it all over (use your finger to apply!) it makes for a stunning single shadow bronze Smokey eye!

Alice

Agree! This is my favorite in the palette and my favorite overall daily palette. I received abother one with my Popsugar and was very happy about that.

I have a lot of palettes (at least 20 I haven’t given away) including 6 Pat McGrath, and I haven’t found a brow and inner eye color in those palettes that I love as much as Charge from this Wanderess Palette. The only other color that compares is the gold color in the PUR highlighter palette which I had totally used up. The other colors are beautiful as well.

I got the Natures Cartel Lipstick in Gin and Platonic and the Sugar Cosmetics Eyeliner in my GBP too. I absolutely love the Sugar Cosmetics Eyeliner. I wasnt excited at all to get it when my bag was revealed but when I actually had it and tried it out I fell in love. The formula is amazing and it’s very pigmented. It dries quickly too which is a must for me when it comes to liquid eyeliner. I saw a lot of people reviewing it on Ipsy saying it was dried out but I think that was used error. It says to store it upside down so the felt tip doesn’t dry out and to shake it before use. If you do that it doesnt dry out and it performs beautifully. I use my Sugar Cosmetics eyeliner everyday now!

I also really like the Natures Cartel Lipstick, it’s a gorgeous shade. It goes very well with my fair complexion. I love the formula and the name of the shade. I’ve been using this quite often as well

Oh I love this. Single shadow looks are my go-to because I am not super great at using loads of different colors on one lid without taking it too far. I will give this a try!

Megan- do you choose an item for the bags you review on choice day, or do you just let them go off of your profile?
I love the Wandress palletes!

Megan K.

Hey Ashley! I actually don’t choose anything from any of my ipsy bags, tempting as those choice spoilers may be. It is always a complete surprise what arrives.
