Bombay & Cedar Limited Edition Fall/Winter 2019 Review

The box comes with a booklet of information that lists out the products and a short description along with the retail value.

Hair Growth Essential Oil Blend by Bombay & Cedar, 10 ml - Listed Value $14.00

I am here for this blend! I had horrible postpartum hair loss with my first son that lasted well over a year, and now that I am done nursing my daughter, I'm nervous the same thing will happen. So I am willing to use anything and everything to keep my hair healthy, strong, and growing. This blend will really awaken your senses with peppermint and turmeric at the forefront of smells I picked up. The blend is easy to use, just add a few drops to each fingertip and massage into your scalp from front to back. You can wrap your hair and either let the oil sit for about 15 minutes or you can sleep with it on. I have been using it on nights before I wash my hair and just sleeping with it on to let my hair drink in the benefits. The idea is that this blend will awaken blood flow which encourages hair growth. If nothing else, I found this to be a really relaxing practice that makes me feel as though I'm pampering myself and my hair!

Lip Crayon in 'Keen' by Axiology, 0.12 oz - Retail Value $28

You could have received this item in several different colors.

This is a semi-matte finish lip crayon that is vegan and made with all-natural ingredients. The crayon goes on so smooth and really left my lips feeling hydrated. I received the orange color which I didn't think went on as dark as I like, so I had to go over my lips a few times to get the tone I desired. There was a light shimmer as well that I wasn't expecting just by looking at the crayon up close. The biggest surprise was that this crayon left a light orange flavor on my lips, so delicious! While this shade wasn't for me, I was impressed with the ingredients, lasting power before having to reapply, and the overall quality. I am going to pass this shade along to my Mom who is more of an orange-red kind of gal and I am going to try this brand in a different shade for myself!

Green Tea & Aloe Toner by Kaneli, 4 fl oz - Listed Value $19

I have very dry skin so toners are not something that I typically like to use as I find them to dry me out even more (no one wants that). However, this toner has been amazing for me without drying me out! The green tea & aloe work to hydrate your skin while still clarifying. The aloe works to tighten your pores while still hydrating and calming any irritations. This mixture has a powerful, almost minty, smell to it that really wakes you up and I can feel a slight sting when I first apply (nothing overwhelming and I haven't noticed any redness or irritations after use). I have only been using this for a few days, but I have noticed my skin looking smoother, nourished, and brighter with a calmness to any breakouts that I currently have. I don't think I will need to use this every day, but I think I will be incorporating it into my evening routine every other day for the best results for my skin. Not to mention this bottle is so adorable, it is made of glass and the label is enough to make me feel so fancy when I look at it on my sink.

Soothe Facial Oil by Akar Skin, 1 oz - Retail Value $90

You could have received either the soothe or clarify oil.

Where have you been all of my life Akar?! If you have tried or use this oil, then you know what I mean. My skin is super dry, as I mention all the time in my beauty reviews, but the winter can be so hard because my face can get so dry that it hurts (by the end of the day my makeup feels awful on my skin). I have only been using this oil for a few days, but let me tell you, I can already see and feel a difference in my skin! My skin looks brighter, smoother, and has a glow that I usually only see in the summer. This vegan oil is made with omega 9, vitamin E, elderberry, sunflower seed, sandalwood, and much more. The oil works to penetrate deep into your skin to thoroughly hydrate while antioxidants work to heal any damage. The best part for me is that this oil absorbs very quickly into my skin so I know it is working and I'm not wasting product. I have been applying 3 drops into my palm, holding together to warm, rubbing my palms together, before patting gently onto my skin. I've only used this at night so far, but after reading reviews it looks like this is a great primer to use before applying your makeup in the morning. I can't wait to see the continued results of this oil, what a special item to receive this month!

Charcoal Infused Cotton Pads by REVELE, 80 pads - Listed Value $9

These cotton pads are infused with charcoal which works to detoxify your skin and remove impurities. After reading about these a bit more, it sounds like they are meant to be used with a toner, astringent, or lotion to help remove makeup, oil, and dirt. I love that an item was included that can be paired with the toner that was in this month's box, super awesome curation! Since these are made with cotton, they are meant to be gentle on your skin while improving your skin's texture and purifying your pores to allow for a deeper clean. While I love that I can use these with my toner instead of just a standard cotton ball, I didn't really notice a huge difference in my skin after using and didn't find that it did a great job removing my makeup. It could be because my skin is dry that I didn't see a big difference when using these pads, but I could see this being great for someone with oily skin or that maybe wears a bit more makeup than I do (my makeup routine is fairly basic).

Tea Tree Infused Nose Strips by REVELE, set of 8 - Listed Value $8

I remember when nose strips were a big thing in the late '90s and rushing to the store with my Mom to buy a box, but they never really seemed to work for me. This little box, however, worked wonders for me! I don't have large pores, but I do find that I do get a good amount of buildup and blackheads on my nose that drive me crazy. These strips are infused with tea tree which disinfects your pores and removes blackheads, and witch hazel which draws out impurities in your skin. The directions were super easy to follow so once I got my strip on, I just let it sit for 15 minutes (I drank some wine and wrapped presents while I waited). There was some tingling and tightening during this time, but nothing that was too uncomfortable and the tea tree scent really helped to relax me (I seriously love tea tree, it reminds me of my Mom). Once the 15 minutes were up I removed the strip which, ouch, hurt a bit more than I would have liked. I looked at the strip and was shocked to see so much buildup on it that came straight from my pores. I mean it looked like the nose strip commercials of my youth, and it was kind of amazing to actually see how much these strips worked for me! My nose looked amazing as well with fewer blackheads and my pores looked way better. This box comes with 8 strips, but I really want to get another to have more!

Soft Touch LED Light Up Slanted Tweezer by Simplosophy - Listed Value $6

I use tweezers a lot to fix my eyebrows and for my husband who gets a lot of in-grown hairs in his beard (sorry if that is TMI!). I was so excited to see these in this month's box because OMG now I don't have to hold my phone up to get extra light to use my tweezers! I went to try this out and was so bummed that they don't really work as well as I would have liked. They are really hard to get to grasp, especially when attempting to tweeze that one wild hair in my eyebrows without pulling out too many others that don't need to go. It might be the light that actually doesn't allow a good grasp, but I really struggled to get these to work for me. I am not giving up yet though because the light works really well so I want these to work for me! I will keep trying until they do!

Dual Blusher by Moira Cosmetics, 0.26 oz - Retail Value $7

You could have received one of six color sets.

I love a dual blush set that are buildable to create so many different looks. Plus, this is a pressed powder so it went on my skin flawlessly and blended so well! I was able to use the blush and then added a little shimmer to my cheekbone to create a fun look that I would repeat for a date night with my husband. It does note that these shades are universally-flattering, but I did feel that the shade I received was a tad darker than I normally wear. It is winter though where I am, so I think it was just too drastic for my pale skin right now. However, I was so impressed with the quality and overall look I was able to achieve that I am going to hold onto this dual set to use in the summer when I have a little healthy glow!

Take Me To... Paris Eyeshadow Palette by Mavie Cosmetics - Listed Value $23

You could have received this in three different destinations.

I really love receiving a fresh new palette because it tends to get me out of my comfort zone or a makeup rut that I might be in. I received the Paris themed set in my box, and could not wait to dive into these bold colors! I have never used this brand of makeup before, but I was very impressed with the quality. Each shade went on nicely, I was able to build a complete look with the various colors, and there was hardly any fallout when applying. Staying power was great as well throughout the day, which I really love because it drives me crazy when I get little creases from my eyeshadow and liner. At first, I was a little bummed to see so many shimmery colors, but after applying I was so happy because they don't go on super glittery so I don't feel like I'm wearing too much makeup. My favorite combination so far is 'French Cafe' and 'One-Way Ticket' to create a bold look that still feels simple enough to wear throughout the day. Honestly, I didn't realize how badly I needed a little refresh, but I have been having so much fun mixing looks with this palette!

Multi-Tasker 4-in-1 Makeup Brush by Alleyoop - Retail Value $24

Being a busy Mom, I really appreciate it when I can simplify any part of my life. For me, having a set of brushes all in one is exactly what I am looking for! This is so great to just toss in your bag or would be perfect for traveling so that you don't have to bring along all of your brushes. The quality of this brush set is amazing, each side is super soft, made of synthetic fibers, and allows my makeup to go on smoothly. This tool comes with a sponge for concealer, plus brushes for brows, eyeshadow, and blush.

Digital Hot Brush Smoothing System by Tiri Pro - Retail Value $99.99 (currently out of stock)

I have seen so many hot brushes like this on Instagram this year that I was so excited to see one in this month's box. I mean, seriously, what a treat! I mentioned before that I suffered from awful post-partum hair loss so I really try to keep any heat away from my hair. However, I wanted to give this brush a try before passing it along to my sister in law who will get much more use out of it than me. Honestly, I wish I had this back when I used to spend hours straightening my hair! This brush was so easy to use and it actually works! The best part? I didn't burn my fingers like I used to with the flat iron. It dried and smoothed super-fast without pulling at my hair. I almost considered keeping this for myself and straightening my hair more often, that is how easy to use this was, but I know that it will see more love with my sister in law. Off it goes, but boy will I miss you forever hot brush!

Verdict: Wow, this box was the gift to myself that I didn't know I needed! With a total listed value of $326, I loved every item in this limited edition box, and if it was something I wasn't able to use then I gifted it to a friend knowing that it was a quality product going to a good home. I loved that this box was all about beauty because it really allowed me to pamper myself during a time of year that I am so busy getting things ready for my family Christmas that I tend to forget about myself. The big-ticket item was clearly the hot brush, and even though I wasn't able to keep it for myself, I was blown away by the quality and how well it worked! Plus, how fun that I got to finally try these famous hot brushes?! My favorite product of the month is hands down the soothe facial oil by Akar. I mean, I want to scream from the rooftops how much I love this product! The toner and the eyeshadow palette are my runners up for box faves, and are really reminding me that it is ok to take a little extra time in my routines to get myself ready for the day. This box would make a great gift to yourself or to your bestie that loves discovering new beauty products. From curation to quality, this was a win all around!

Taryn, I don’t know how that essential oil worked for you. I did want to mention a product from across the pond.. Anacatelos is the name and they specifically treat Post partum hair loss. I had a hair dye incident and wow.. i just use now on the regular the shipping sucks but up until the virus, no issues with Royal Mail. You can see them on Instagram for before and after… Good Luck and I hope you are enjoying your baby. I jumped on as I am thinking about the Limited Edition Spring box.

Hello, I bought the same strips for pores as you, but it was not easy for me to understand how they are used. Could you tell me how they go?

Hi, I came to the review to see how everything wore…. may I ask why there are no swatches of the blushes, eyeshadow or lipstick? What’s the point of a review if we can’t see what the color payoff is, what it looks like on how sheer or textured the finishes are…..?

Thanks so much for your feedback! I’m so sorry we missed the swatches on this review but will ensure that they are always there moving forward.

Great review, though I would’ve loved to see swatches of the eye shadow and lip crayon. I considered ordering this box until I found out the Hot Brush is a variable item – it’s either the Hot Brush or a blow dryer, and I definitely don’t need a blow dryer. Looks like a great box though!
