Nosejoy November 2019 “Very Vanilla” Review
1 of 4 2 of 4 3 of 4 4 of 4 Nosejoy usually sends a welcome card with a note from the sub’s curator, Emily McBride, and an info slip that gives Emily’s description of each item in your box. The subtitle of the box name is, “everyone craves the aromatic fave,” and I like that she acknowledges that this month’s theme is diving head-first into a classic scent. Typically I’m not one to go for vanilla aromas, but having reviewed this box for a little over 2 years now (!!!), I fully trust that Emily’s take on “vanilla” will be anything but ordinary. Ready to see what I got?
1 of 2 2 of 2 Paddywax Mark Twain Library Candle, 2.5 oz — Retail Value $12 I’m always pleased to find this familiar candle in my Nosejoy box—these soy Paddywax tins are included every now and then, and I think their rectangular shape offers a really cool change from ordinary candles. Also, as we approach the holidays, this shape and size makes a really nice stocking stuffer or low-key host/hostess gift. Scent-wise, we’re off to a spectacular start! It’s a blend of tobacco flower & vanilla, and it’s a really wonderful, warm, sweet-meets-slightly-spicy smell that isn’t too feminine, which you all know I appreciate. Love.
1 of 3 2 of 3 3 of 3 Revival Body Care Rose & Vanilla Lip Scrub, 1 oz — Retail Value $7.95 Here’s another familiar product from Nosejoy boxes past. I received a coffee sugar lip scrub from this small business last winter, and it was one of the more delightful skincare products I’ve ever used to combat dry lips. This time around it’s rose & vanilla, another nice vanilla combo. While the taste of coffee on my lips was a little more welcome than the taste of rose is—as much as I can’t get enough of a rose scent, I don’t particularly like consuming it—this is still a product I know I’ll use and enjoy.
1 of 2 2 of 2 Wood & Wax Co. Amber & Vanilla Solid Perfume, 0.5 oz — Retail Value $14 Yet again, I recognize the label of this solid perfume tin from previous Nosejoy shipments! I can’t recall which scent I received last time, but I do remember I gave it as a gift. This one, though, I think I’ll keep for myself. I can’t put my finger on exactly how the amber blended with the vanilla makes it so much better than I expected, but it’s really, really lovely. There’s almost a faint floral vibe to it, but nothing over the top. Is this my new scent of the season? I think yes.
1 of 2 2 of 2 Latika Cinnamon & Vanilla Bath Bomb — Retail Value $6.50 Finally, a pretty bath bomb from a brand Nosejoy subscribers all know and love. Latika products pop up in all forms in this subscription—I’ve received creams and lip balms and other bath bombs in the past. Typically I take them out of the wrapper to photograph them, but I have a few bath bombs tucked away waiting to be used, so I think I’ll save this one to give as a gift this holiday season. Verdict: As hoped, Nosejoy delivered a vanilla-themed box that was filled with exciting and unexpected scent combos! Out of the four items I received, not one felt boring or ordinary. I’ll take this opportunity to mention that I appreciate Emily’s repeated support of local businesses (she’s from Austin, TX), sending us a variety of their offerings over the course of the year. All of them use ethical practices, offering handmade, cruelty-free products that are really high-quality and a joy to use (and gift). This month’s four items added up to $40.45, which exceeds the box cost of $34.95 and is a good representation of what this box’s value typically looks like. I’m happy with this value, particularly because the box curation is done with such care and the experience of not only unboxing, but of actually using each product, is so great. To Wrap Up: Can you still get this box if you sign up today? No, your subscription will start with the December box. Sign up by the 15th to get that month’s box. Nosejoy is one of my all time favorite boxes. I’ve been getting it for about 2 years now. Lately it feels like too many repeats though!
I agree it’s such a delight every month! I suppose my initial reaction to seeing a lot of repeats was wishing for something different, but then it occurred to me how awesome it is that Emily’s supporting the same local companies again and again. Perhaps at least 1-2 new items mixed in with the repeats would help it feel fresh. Anyway, thanks for reading & for your comment!
Very true!
I love those candles! I have the Jane Austen one.
There’s something so cozy-seeming about them, isn’t there? <3
