curdbox November 2019 Review

Included is a card with instructions, a link to a monthly blog post (including a cheese podcast, video, and playlist!!!), and all the info on the cheeses and snacks included in each month's box.

Let's peek at the snacks first:

Firehook Sea Salt Crackers, two 0.5 oz packs - Buy 7 oz for $6.45

These snappy crackers were absolutely delightful. They were the perfect thickness for scooping up the goat cheese without breaking, and were covered in large sea salt crystals. My only gripe is that of all the included items in this box, there really should have been more of these to complement an entire cheese plate.

Barnier Green Herbs de Provence Olives, 4.4 oz - Buy 6 packs for $32.25

The theme of this month's box was "herbs" and what better complement than delicious green olives covered in herbs de Provence? These were delicious and had a very complex taste from all the different herbs. I noticed rosemary and thyme the most. They were pitted too, which made snacking even easier.

Gilded Nuts Mediterranean Herbs Pistachios, 2.25 oz - Buy 6 packs for $21.00

These perfectly roasted pistachios are coated in a layer of basil, lavender, parsley, sage, rosemary, thyme, garlic, tarragon, savory, marjoram, chervil, and sea salt. All of these herbs tie in beautifully with the olives and complement the mild green taste of the pistachios themselves. They were easy to crack open and enjoy, and added a nutty element to our assortment this month.

Ok, cheese time. That is what we are all here for, right?

Beehive Cheese Squeaky Bee Curds, 4 oz - Buy 4 packs for $14.99

CURDS! I will admit that I might have been a little sad if a box called "curdbox" didn't have some curds inside! These were delightfully squeaky, fresh, and creamy. Hailing from Utah, these delightful little bites are the choice curds that were delicious enough to be enjoyed at this stage, instead of going on to become a full wheel of cheese.

Cypress Grove PsycheDillic Goat Cheese, 4 oz - Retail Value $6.50

This goat cheese was downright amazing when paired with those crackers above. You could use the cracker itself to scoop up the perfect portion and enjoy. I always tend to love goat cheese because it is so soft and spreadable. This cheese is loaded with hand-harvested dill pollen, which gives it a wonderfully green dill note. It was tangy and bright, and I plan on seeking this out locally. Fingers crossed!

Point Reyes TomaProvence Cow Cheese - Buy three 6 oz wedges for $35.00

Finally, our last cheese is a buttery wedge from Califonia. Filled with more herbs de Provence, this was still the mildest option that arrived this month and its calm, mellow flavor was an excellent complement to the other items in this month's box. We enjoyed the entire wedge together at the office, but I feel like this is one of those cheeses that would also be delicious melted into pasta or on a grilled cheese.

Of course, we had to have an MSA cheese plate! Marne beautifully arranged all of our cheeses and snacks on a black slate cheeseboard and we dug in! There wasn't a single snack or cheese that wasn't enjoyed and I would easily give this cheeseboard two thumbs up.

Verdict: curdbox is pricy. There, I said it. Pennsylvania is lucky enough to have one of the less expensive shipping rates but it still felt steep. Could you take your money to a cheese shop or a Whole Foods and build a bigger cheese board? Sure! Easily. Does this feel like a lot of cheese for the price? Initially, no. But a group of 6 people did enjoy these items together and we all felt satisfied with leftovers still on the board. Together, the items go a long way. To me, this feels more like a gift subscription or an experience subscription for a hardcore cheese lover than a "value" sub. The addition of the podcast, video, playlist, and added info certainly lend even more value and fun. I also think this would be a great subscription for someone who finds themselves hosting often and wants to always have a fun and unique cheeseboard for guests. Or for someone who finds themselves living in some sort of horrible cheese-desert. In that case, subscribe to this box. Or move!

To Wrap Up:

Can I still get this box if I sign up today? No, you will likely receive the January box.

To get next month's box: order by the end of the current month. (For example: sign up by March 31st to get April's curdbox.)

Value Breakdown: This box costs $59.95 a month including the PA shipping cost, which means you're paying about $9.99 per cheese or snack.

Keep Track of Your Subscriptions: Add this box to your subscription list or wishlist!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

That is a very short shelf life for the goat cheese! Did you get the box before December 4?

It is a sell by, not use by, which gives another few days past the selling date. But agreed! I don’t think I would want goat cheese shipped to me in any case.
