Birchbox Grooming Men's Sample Box November 2019 Review

I'm having my husband, John, give me his rundown of this box since he is the grooming expert in our house. Here's just a quick snapshot of what his skin and hair are like, you can get a better idea of how the products work for him:

  • Skin - Smooth, clear, and in great shape, considering he does nothing to keep it that way. John took Accutane for acne as a teen, so he doesn't experience active breakouts anymore (but he does have some scarring). I'm currently trying to show him how important it is to work on preventing aging before it starts!
  • Hair - Coarse and wavy.

This card details the theme of the month and the items included in John's box. Plus, it offers some tips on how to use the products. Now, onto the items!

Brickell Men's Products Restoring Eye Balm, 4 ml - Estimated Value $1.48 (Buy a full-size 0.5 oz for $40)

John doesn't struggle with moisture issues on his face, so eye balms aren't something he reaches for daily. But, this one feels nice and is non-irritating. It leaves a smooth feel and a slightly cooling sensation.

Jack Black Industrial Strength Hand Healer, 14 ml - Estimated Value $2.50 (Buy a full-size 3 oz for $15)

John uses hand sanitizer and washes his hands many times a day, so they often get chapped and dry. He really likes this hand lotion because it smells fresh and absorbs quickly without leaving his hands feeling greasy. I feel like this will be a future full-size purchase.

The Wolf Project Hydrating Face Mask Sheet, 1 sheet - Estimated Value $4.90 (Buy 5 sheets for $24.50)

Sheet masks aren't really something John cares for or needs. I try to convince him they are great stored in the fridge and put on after a hot day but he doesn't like that they slide around and don't stick to his beard.

V76 by Vaughn Smooth Shave Cream, 30 ml - Estimated Value $3.80 (Buy a full-size 5o z for $19)

John likes this shave cream. It has a creamy texture that makes for a comfortable shave and rinses away clean, leaving his skin feeling calm and smooth. Plus, it smells good.

Vasanti BrightenUp! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator, 20 g - Estimated Value $5.67 (Buy a full-size 120 ml for $34)

This exfoliator has a mild gritty texture for physical exfoliation and papaya enzymes that act as a chemical exfoliant. John notices that his skin feels really clean, even stripped, and buffed after using it. A quick layer of moisturizer helps soothe that sensation.

Verdict: This month, John received 5 new products to try. Birchbox Grooming has helped him find some of his all-time favorites, and this month had a couple he liked – the hand lotion and shave cream – and some he didn't. I estimate a value of $18.35 for this box which is almost double the cost of the box. Not every month is a winner but John looks forward to trying new products. It's convenient that he can purchase full-size versions from the Birchbox shop.

Finally after looking for a week and going to links on this website that didn’t include Birchbox for men, I gave it 1 more try and I saw this sub. I wanted to get my bf a sub box because he see’s me get a couple every month and he has expressed how nice it is to get a surprise gift monthly for me. I think he will love trying this even if for a few months. He isn’t a big skin care fan and has only used 1 item I gave him to use for his neck. I know he won’t use a product daily unless perhaps a shower cleanser or shampoo but I also know he will try some of it here and there. That’s 1 reason I don’t want an expensive box for him but I do wish he would try some products just to enjoy for himself. Thank you so much for the review.

I can’t get any of the current coupon codes to work with a Birchbox Grooming new subscription. Do the codes only work with Birchbox Beauty?

Yep, the grooming sub has separate codes.

I haven’t subbed to the “men’s” version of this in years, nor have I seen much in the way of reviews on this site in a long time, but I used to love this subscription. As someone with pixie short hair who was interested in receiving skin, hair, and body product samples, I loved the travel sized soaps, shave lotions, and hair pomades I used to receive as they were practical and useful for travel. Also most skin care products “for men” are literally half the price for the same ingredients as “for women” brands. If this sub is making a comeback, I’d be very interested in seeing more reviews!

Unreal. Birchbox actually sent out a box with zero hair items in it. Perhaps I should sign up for that instead of the women’s box. Eye balm, hand cream, sheet mask, shave cream, and scrub – this box is a winner for me. All five of these are items I would have used up completely. Please keep reviewing this box. I’m serious. This is so much better than the women’s box. The price is happifying as well.
