Birchbox The At-Home Facial Kit Review

Here is the info sheet for the products included.

Clarins Hydra-Essentiel Moisturizing Reviving Eye Mask, 5 ml - Estimated Value $6.33 (Buy the 30 ml version for $38)

I call myself the mask queen on Instagram, so I will always be happy about any kind of mask I receive in a subscription box or kit. This one is a bit unique in that it is formulated specifically for the delicate skin around your eyes, and it is made with ingredients designed to intensely hydrate and improve signs of fatigue. I used this as an overnight mask, and the skin around my eyes definitely felt more hydrated when I woke up the next morning (instead of being dry or crusty).

GLAMGLOW® SUPERCLEANSE™ Clearing Cream-to-Foam Cleanser, 0.5 oz - Estimated Value $3.20 (Buy the 5 oz version for $32)

The "supercleanse" name of this cleanser is certainly accurate- this definitely gave me a deep detoxing cleanse thanks to the three types of mud and ingredients like peppermint oil and eucalyptus powder. This would be too harsh for my dry skin to use every single day, but I liked it for occasional use when I was feeling like my skin needed a deep clean.

Georgette Klinger Lavender Facial Mist, 1.7 oz - Estimated Value $3.64 (Buy the 4.2 oz version for $9)

Facial mists aren’t the most exciting skincare item to receive (especially because they’ve been everywhere lately), but I like that this one has aloe vera in it for added hydration. The light lavender scent definitely soothed my tired mind after a long day, so if you enjoy the scent of lavender I would recommend trying this mist out as the last step in your routine before bed.

[ comfort zone ] Hydramemory Cream Gel, 0.27 oz - Estimated Value $8.11 (Buy the 2.13 oz version for $64)

This moisturizer is infused with both moringa oil and hyaluronic acid to deliver deep moisture, while still being lightweight thanks to the cream-gel texture. This absorbed quickly into my skin and left it feeling nourished, and I liked the formula as a good day moisturizer to wear under sunscreen and makeup.

Huxley Secret of Sahara Oil Essence 0.17 oz – Estimated Value $9.76 (Buy the full-size version for $58)

Huxley is a luxe Korean skincare brand, and I am always happy to try more products from their lineup. To use, you apply this after cleansing and toning to add hydration, which should help your treatment serums be more effective. I definitely think my skin has been more hydrated while using, so I think it is safe to say this product does what it says it’ll do. I will say that I am not impressed that this has alcohol in the ingredients list, but it isn’t at the top so it shouldn’t irritate your skin.

Acure Seriously Soothing Blue Tansy Night Oil, 0.3 oz - Estimated Value $4.33 (Buy the 1 oz version for $12.99)

Blue tansy is a great ingredient for sensitive or acne-prone skin, making this a good finishing oil at the end of a skincare routine if those are skincare concerns you have. I will say that I actually hate the rollerball dispenser this small sample has- I think a pump or even a dropper would have been much more sanitary and effective.

Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinoid Serum, 5 ml – Estimated  Value $14.17 (Buy 30 ml for $85.00)

I am always happy to stock up on samples of this retinoid- I use this exact serum one to two times a week, and I think as a whole with consistent, long term use my skin is looking better. This product specifically is made with both CoQ10 (which fights free radicals from UV exposure) and Hawaiian white honey, which adds in some of the moisture that retinol products naturally take away from your skin.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intense Reset Concentrate, 0.17 oz - Estimated Value $20 (Buy the 0.68 oz version for $80)

While this is a brand I associate with a more mature customer base, I am still always happy to get samples of it. This is a serum designed to soothe irritated skin and pack in the moisture for 24-hour hydration, but it still is a thin serum that absorbs into my skin quickly without leaving it sticky. When my skin was feeling extra dry I layered this under a heavy moisturizer before going to bed, and my skin was so happy the next morning.

Saturday Skin Cotton Cloud Probiotic Power Mask - Retail Value $6

I was so stoked that this mask was included in this kit- I have purchased it from Sephora before, and my skin absolutely loves it. Something about products with probiotics just make my skin glow, and this sheet mask was no exception. For maximum relaxation, I wore this mask while using the included facial roller in this box, and my skin was one happy camper.

Birchbox Rose Quartz Facial Roller

I love using facial rollers, and I am also always happy to add more to my collection because I can never find them when I remember to actually use them. This pretty pink one is made with rose quartz, and if you aren't sure how to use your roller I recommend checking out this (hilarious) post.

Verdict: This was such a fun kit- one of the highlights of a facial is walking away with happy, hydrated skin, and I believe this curation allows you to get a nice version of that feeling from the comfort of your home. Value-wise, Birchbox promised a total value of $101, and they came up a bit short with my math adding up to $75.54 for everything except the facial roller.

I got one to try at 50% off during the sale. After reading many MSA’s reviews, I don’t trust Birchbox’s estimated total value anymore, lol. Great review!

you can get a larger size of the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intense Reset Concentrate (.24), and two other Estée Lauder products for $35 dollars and an additional 15 % off that as well at Lord and Taylor.
(Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Repair Supercharged Intense Recovery and Estée Lauder Micro Essence Skin Reactivating Lotion). i don’t get the value of this box at all. i want to try the saturday skin line but i think i’ll look elsewhere bc this is too high.

I picked up 3 of these during the 50% off sale – talk about value! I can’t wait to try the Saturday Skin mask.

great write-up. this box is way overpriced and for 35 dollars, one can get the awesome january boxycharm premium box with multiple full size items, and much more variety. i enjoyed the detox scalp kit, but this just feels more like an end of the year, clean the shelves type of box more than at home facials.

This really looks like an awesome kit. Nice variety of items. Even with the value coming up short, still a great deal imo. Awesome review too!
