December 2019 BeautyFIX Review

cover of booklet with wintery scene and girl in scarf inside booklet with all products and info back of booklet with more info and social media callouts

This box comes with a booklet detailing each of the items included. We have 9 (!!!) different items this month, so strap in!

Avène Hydrance Rich Hydrating Cream, 1.3 fl oz. -  Full Size! Retail Value $32.00

I actually adore this brand and use their Micellar Lotion daily to further cleanse and prep my skin after facewash. This cream has the same delightful scent and is over-the-top rich and thick. Just what my skin is craving right now! It goes on heavy but absorbs quickly, enough so that I could actually get away with using this under makeup instead of just at night. For the quality, the price is also great and this will likely be a purchase for me in the future to complement the toning lotion I already know and love.

CAVIAR Anti-Aging Smoothing Anti-Frizz Blowout Butter, 0.85 fl oz - Estimated Value $5.67 (Buy a full-size 5.1 fl oz version for $34.00)

I have tried out this stuff before and have pretty pleasant feelings about it, regardless of the fact that I use it on my dry hair instead of damp, as suggested. I prefer to use balms that way because they are perfect for on the go shine and frizz taming! I like to rub a little between my palms then finger comb it through my tresses. It gives instant polish and cuts down on those pesky static flyaways that are plaguing me this winter.

tarte Cosmetics Tarteist Lash Paint Mascara in Black, 0.08 fl oz - Estimated Value $8.00 (Buy a full-size 0.23 fl oz for $23.00)

I generally really love tarte cosmetics, but I didn't love this mascara. It did add volume and length but it also added little clumps that I had to work at to comb off my lashes. I was able to get all of them off and my lashes looked great, but this was an extra step I don't have to chase in my other favorite mascaras. I also wasn't crazy about this type of sample that doesn't have a twist-off cap, but rather one you just pull off whenever you want to use it. It is kind of loose and could easily open in my makeup bag or purse.

Harry Josh Pro Tools Carbon Tail Comb - Retail Value $20.00 (currently on sale for $15.00)

I was actually really excited for this item when I saw it in the spoilers because Will always needs a comb as he is constantly breaking his cheaper ones. I don't know how someone with short hair manages to destroy plastic combs, but my man has talent! This one seems virtually indestructible, so good luck Will.

Murad Prebiotic 3-in-1 MultiMist, 0.14 fl oz - Estimated Value $1.32 (Buy a full-size 3.4 fl oz for $32.00)

I wish this sample had been larger, because I really liked this mist and I really need to stop spending money. It has one of those perfect true mister heads (which I assume is only better on the actual product packaging!) and the mist itself gave my skin a really nice glow over top of my makeup for that dewy look I covet. It also seemed to give my foundation a few hours more longevity, which is a win-win for me. It is also filled with skin nurturing peptides, sugars, and probiotics, so in addition to making my skin look healthier, it actually makes it healthier.

Dermablend Loose Setting Powder, 3 g - Estimated Value $3.11 (Buy a full-size 28 g for $29.00)

After knocking over another pot of loose setting powder, I am on a self-imposed pressed powder routine right now. I did break out to review this powder, which was messy, but nice. It was more of a matte finish and locked my foundation and concealer in really nicely. If I was less of a hot mess I might attempt to toss this into my purse for touchups, but I am a human disaster so I will be regifting this one.

VIRTUE Restorative Treatment Mask, 0.5 fl oz - Estimated Value $8.82 (Buy a full-size 1.7 fl oz for $30.00)

This was another item I sampled before, and really liked. Again, as with most hair products, I find myself unable to actually use them as intended. Instead of using this as an actual hair mask, I preferred using it as a conditioner replacement strictly on my ends, because a little goes a long way! It gives my hair a nice gloss without being as heavy as a mask would be. It also has a really lovely scent that stays in your hair all day.

Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Deep Cleansing Bar, 0.6 oz - Estimated Value $6.71 (Buy a full-size 3.4 oz for $38.00)

This is quite possibly the cutest little mini bar of soap I have ever seen!! Like, PRECIOUS. This sort of thing is actually perfect for someone like me with drier skin, because I always feel like I get left out of the benefits of charcoal since it is usually included in super drying clay or mud masks which I can't indulge in too often. This little bar of soap allows me to utilize the purifying benefits without drying my face too drastically. I also think the large full-size black bar would look so badass in a shower.

Verso Nourishing Cream, 0.51 fl oz - Estimated Value $33.00 (Buy a full-size 1.7 fl oz for $110.00)

I didn't love the smell of this, but I did love the way my face felt after I applied it. It really did add a ton of hydration to my dull morning skin, probably because hyaluronic acid is one of its ingredients. It also absorbed really quickly and without any residue. It has a pretty hefty price tag, and though I found it effective, I am not sure it outranks any of my other favorite creams with similar ingredient lists.

Verdict: This $24.95 BeautyFIX box has an estimated value of $118.63, which is great for a $25 box. The full-size Avène item made the box for me, as it is an awesome formula and from a brand I already know and love. Will is going to be thrilled with this comb too (it's the small things). The other items were all pretty good, specifically the wee li'l soap, Murad mist, and the VIRTUE hair mask. All in all, this was a pretty great box with an awesome assortment.

I used to sub but it seems products got smaller, and some fillers I don’t need . Hope one day they come back to glory, but I don’t see that :/ happening . Sighs- loved trains, planes, and beauty box with two full size items , but no longer available like it used to be for purchase . There CS is awful as well, with no response . Oh well no loss plenty of other boxes out there . Maybe one day I’ll be back , but it’s gotta be a bad $ss box 🙂

Just an FYI – yesterday I ordered one of the previous beauty boxes. It was delivered this morning! Couldn’t have asked for better service and delivery and just a few days before Christmas! They don’t even charge a delivery fee and yet got it here in less than 24 hours.

Dear MSA, looks like November box is still available for single purchase. Just search “beautyfix” and it will show all the available past boxes. I think a lot us bought the deal with mystery box, so it would be nice to be reviewed even though it is late. Thanks!

Hey Kay! This box has been showing as sold out on my end and isn’t coming up when I search. Are you still seeing it as available?

Melissa

I was thinking the same thing

The comb is completely badass. I’m not kidding. Love it.

The cute mini soap is being used to wash my makeup brushes. It fits perfectly into my hand for swiping the brushes over and I think this is a great use for this product.

The hair mask smells like old lady perfume. Right into the eBay box with that one. Yuck!!!!

Love Alterna and it’s a scent I can tolerate!

This box was a win for me. The comb alone was worth the price. The carbon is cool, and I feel pampered using it. Let the comb haters hate:)

I hate little trial sizes and beauty fix always crashes s filled with travel size but it’s always skin care focused and reputable brands. I feel for a sub box, that’s what you can reasonably hold them to.

I got this box and am not sure thrilled with it. I do really like the Avene cream. I have very oily, reactive, sensitive skin and it works well for me. I find that creams designed for oily skin only make my skin worse. The Avene absorbs in really well and I use it as a day cream. I would love the mist if it wasn’t so tiny. I unsubscribed and need to wait for the spoilers to come out, only subscribing for a month at a time from hear on. I wish they gave spoilers before charging you.

Jenna

Sometimes when your skin appears oily, it’s because you actually have very dry skin! Because the skin is so dry, sometimes your body over produces oil to try and fix it, so therefore it looks oily.

Cancelled as nothing this month excited me except the Dermablend setting powder, but this is a great sub that I got for a long time and will likely resub to at some point when the spoilers look good.

Do we anticipate any sort of deal on this box as the holiday season winds down? I want one, but not if I can get a coupon or an extra box by waiting….

Melissa

They don’t usually go on sale

Linda

Thinking the same.

Kelly

I’m waiting to see a discount on this one, as well!

Sara

I enjoyed this box’s items. If you’re a dry skin person, the Avene product alone is worth it. I know, a comb isn’t exciting, but it is a nice comb! Lol

For those unsure about subscribing, you can wait each month to see the full spoilers and then subscribe. Simply cancel after your shipping confirmation/prior to the next month on their website by literally clicking on ‘Cancel.’ It is one click and you don’t have to send an email or call anyone on the phone. It really is that easy.

I can’t use setting powders. My skin is so dry, even with my wonderful moisturizers that I cherish. I’m probably the only one, but finding Tarte in any sub boxes is almost like finding the other assorted, a bit-too-tired for the sub box world cosmetics as well. There are a couple of items here that I would definitely use, so it’s not all a loss. I’m eager to see what January’s spoilers are as I decided not to purchase this box.

Cindy

I got this box. I am so sick of receiving various setting powders in boxes.

For long time subscribers, there is literally 4 repeats here. It’s what’s holding me back from resubscribbing. I love my skincare but what I want is to discover new items. Still a nice box though

Punkykiki

Me too!!! I used to love this box, but with the repeats and tiny sample sizes, I’ve not been tempted to sign up again. I was a loyal member for four or five years….it was never the most exciting box, but I usually found a use for everything and discovered some great brands. This is what I don’t understand about beauty subs like Beauty Fix, Sephora, etc. With all the new stuff that is constantly being added to their stores, why don’t they include anything but the same tired “classic” samples? I suppose a lot of products in sub boxes are where beauty samples go to die. Anyway, if you’re on the fence about this particular box, GO FOR IT!!!!! That comb is bomb…..no kidding!!!!

This is a sad looking box. No fomo here

Hi Megan! Is there a review for the November box as well?

Reply ButtonReply

Megan K.

Hey hey! We were sadly unable to review Nov. due to a shipping issue 🙁

Angel

Thanks for the update Megan!

Linda

I loved the November box! I also bought the BOGO BF deal with that, too, so ended up with a nice assortment of products. I believe if BeautyFix was more consistent with boxes like the November one, they’d hit it out of the ballpark more; however, with that being said, I know that not everyone will be pleased. I feel like if I did actually purchase the December box, the Avene would be my fave thing due to my dry skin. The soap would even be cool, too.

Tara

I was wondering the same! I’ve been checking everyday for it!

I too would like to see the November box reviewed. Personally, I loved the November box (and the BOGO BTBF deal), but I skipped December because the Avene is too rich for me and there were so many repeats. I hope those who got it love it.
