Beachly Winter 2019 Review

Costal Co Preferences

Your sizes and preferences will be saved to your account for future inquiry needs.

Beachly has a new style of info booklet this month that goes into more detail about the seven items included in the box. There's an introduction and each item has a description, why they chose it, and a tip or fact about it along with the retail price. At the end of the booklet, you'll learn that they partner with Heal the Bay and fund beach cleanups in the Los Angeles area. The last page of the booklet has loads of discount codes as well for some of the featured brands plus others.

Lira Baja Pina Hooded Poncho, size medium - Listed Value $60.00

Whoa- I haven't seen a hoodie like this in quite some time although I must admit I'm not the target audience for this garment. Back in middle school, we called a similar yet heavier version of this a "jerga" but they have several names based on where you hail from. This one is much more breathable and soft than the ones I knew of back then. This hoodie is incredibly comfy and I like the cream, navy, and grey colorway it comes in. The left side of the chest features a small embroidered pineapple and there's a big front pocket to keep your hands warm in the front. The hem at the bottom dips lower in the front and back and the hood is quite roomy. I can see myself throwing this on in the house when I get a little chilly since it's really easy to wear and super comfy.

Fresh Produce Shell Necklace - Listed Value $25.00

Beachly almost always includes a piece of jewelry that harkens the beach vibes. This season, they've included this long necklace from Fresh Produce that has a gold-colored chain with turquoise beads incorporated near the bottom with some charms dangling off. The charms hang from a small gold-colored hoop and are comprised of a puka shell, red tassel, and gold star. Since it has a healthy length of up to 15 inches, I won't have to mess with the clasp and can just throw it over my head which I appreciate.

Cleobella Mexican Zip Wallet - Listed Value $68.00

This is actually my favorite shape of wallet- the zip-around square. Cleobella has made a Mexican-style cut-out design for the front of this aqua/turquoise colored faux-leather wallet and added a tassel on the zipper pull. The back has their name in gold cursive, and inside you'll find a palm print that ties the box theme to this item as well. There's space for dollar bills and two slots for ID or credit cards that make this a pretty simple functioning wallet that you can't overload with miscellaneous items. The gold zipper matches the palm and branded name as well. I'm not sure I'd spend $68 on this item, but it's a nice item for a box that we haven't seen very much of in the past at all.

Surf's Up Candle Coconut Lime Vintage Jar Candle, 8 oz. - Retail Value $16.00

While I am a pine-scented candle kinda gal year-round, this coconut lime one delivers a really nice scent. The mason jar vessel it's in with the twine bow really gives it a warm rustic vibe that speaks to the fact that it's handmade. If you'll soon get cabin fever from being indoors this winter, just light this candle and let the coconut lime fragrance fill your home and conjure up warmer memories. Once your candle is used up, this will make a cute container to hold bobby pins, cotton balls, or other small items you need to keep organized.

Noho Home Loulu Throw - Retail Value $49.95

It's nice to have throws on hand when it starts to get chilly. While this one isn't very thick, it would certainly be nice to throw over your shoulders at the beach this time of year in a climate warmer than Pittsburgh. The throw is 100% cotton with the blue, green, and rust palm pattern printed on it. Straight out of the box, I think the printed pattern is the culprit of it not being incredibly soft, but I have a feeling that once it's washed, it'll soften right up. As you can tell by the fourth photo above, it's quite large at 52 x 60 inches and it has fringe on both ends. This would also make a nice decorative piece to toss over a bed or chair to bring a little summer into your home or beach house.

Northern Sole Winter Palm Socks - Retail Value $14.43 USD ($18.96 CAN)

These socks are made from 75% cotton, 23% nylon, and 2% spandex for stretch. The bright teal green and fuchsia palm pattern together with teal toes, cuffs, and heels bring some colorful flair to the dreary winter. The socks are quite soft and have a little bit of a comforting cushion feel to them when they're on to make them super cozy and warm.

Vagabond Goods Palm Utensil Set - Listed Value $20.00

This might be my favorite item of the box. I'm trying to be more conscious of how much waste I'm creating - especially single-use plastics like eating utensils. This utensil set has some of the basics you may need like a knife, spork, and chopsticks - all made of bamboo in Bali. They come in a cute drawstring pouch that has soft blue and burnt orange palms on it, made of natural cotton. I'll have to keep this in my car for the next time I'm on the road and need to eat so I don't put more trash into the world.

Verdict: The winter box from Beachly included seven items that are 100% beach-inspired and would make anyone who loves sun and sand happy. I appreciate them for including warmer clothing this time of year for those of us that aren't in a sunshine state at the moment and I find everything to be super useable (or even giftable). I think the utensil set and hoody are my faves this time, but they've pulled together a nice selection overall. The total retail for this box is $253.38 which is more than double the $103.95 cost.

To Wrap Up:

Can you still get this box if you sign up today?  Yes, winter boxes are shipping now! Yours may be slightly different based on your preferences and location though.

Value Breakdown: At $103.95 ($99.00 + $4.95 shipping) for this box, here's what you're paying for each item:

  • Hooded Poncho: $24.62
  • Necklace: $10.26
  • Wallet: $27.90
  • Candle: $6.56
  • Throw: $20.49
  • Socks: $5.92
  • Utensil Set: $8.21

I initially thought the gold palm frond was a feather. Was going to swap for this wallet, but now I’m not so sure. I saw it on the swap site and didn’t realize it was from a beach themed box. I guess i could always pretend that it is a feather, though.

I ordered the BF deal. The bonus box arrived a few days ago. I received the Fall box with a knit cap instead of the t-shirt. I imagine they are out of my size. I’m still waiting for the winter box to ship. It’s a nice winter treat!

I ordered the box as a Christmas present for me (husband doesn’t shop well, alas….). The discount code did not work. Nor do the spin the wheel discount on their site. Sadness

Just me, but I LOVE the hoodie. It’s loosely woven, it’s loose and comfy and it’s just right with jeans.

What group is this for, Marnie? I don’t understand that part of the review.

I’m almost 63 years old and I plan to wear the heck out of mine in all but the blazing hot summers we have.

Gotta love this southern sunshine. 74 degrees!!! 😉 😉

She’s not a beachy kind of surf wearing person. I think that’s what she means. It’s not quite her style. She certainly doesn’t look at home in the hoodie and she stared she’s not wearing it out of the house. I think you understand perfectly that part of the review. Maybe you are a 63 bono fan and Marnie has a different vibe than this hoodie

WHY are people disliking this hoodie? It’s perfect for me. I love the loose weave, the loose fit, and it has a Boho vibe that looks so good on most people.

Is it that you live in very cold climates? You can always wear it later, you know!

I can wear mine today. Hooray for Southern sunshine. 🙂

I got the Winter box as shown, and they sent me PART of the Fall box in the Promo offer… I didn’t get the short sleeved tee, which I didn’t care about that much but I also didn’t get the PERFUME and I was dying for that.

Wrote them and said I was doing a chargeback for fraud if they didn’t send the perfume. It’s supposed to be shipped out. We shall see.
I will NOT be shorted a $50 item!!!

WHAT IS IT with Sub Boxes and Perfume???? If you got the 2 for 1 deal, please check to make sure all your items, especially the perfume, is there.

I think accusing them of fraud is a bit much. I’m sure you realize that these are packed by human beings and things happen. This sub always had the best customer service. WHAT IS IT with people who think that humans don’t make mistakes or that items are left out intentionally?

Lily

They’re sending it plus offered me a huge discount on the Spring box.

I know what I’m doing. Been buying sub boxes for 8 years now, since 2012. 😉

iF you’ve never had a box with a missing couple of items when there was no communication about the box contents from the company despite repeated requests about it you might talk about a chargeback yourself.

Ive worked in retail. Fine jewelry store. Have sold 3 carat diamond rings crazy men wanted wrapped in heavy bricks.

I also was in the healthcare industry for many years, and have been treated by a dog by doctors, families, patients, and acted appropriately and with grace and professionalism through it all. 😉
You were saying?

Nic

People are just unreasonable. Learned that from working in retail

Julie

I am swapping the wallet , necklace and hoodie if anyone is interested. I have not loaded the necklace and wallet yet, but feel free to PM me. My hoodie is a size large.

Christina

I am interested in the hoodie if still available! I love the hoodie but they sent me a medium and I need a large. Couldn’t find it in the swap area – PM me?

Laura

@Christina, Beachly is very helpful with exchanges if you want to return yours for a different size.

Cyndi

These items look great to me; it looks like the quality is there for the price, nice review! Merry Christmas, Marne and everyone at MSA!

My first box from Beachly and I’m delighted. Actually, I scooped up the BF deal of an extra box free so the Fall box arrived sooner. That was a sweet box too.
The sweater is as soft as the throw is rough. Was disappoint on first touching it but the suggestion that it will soften up on washing is hopefully true. Otherwise it’ll be a great beach blanket or even tablecloth.
The sweater and two shirts from the Fall box are great additions to my closet. Love wearing beachy jewelry in the winter to remind me of tropical places I so wish were in my plans.
There are definitely some giftable items in the two boxes which makes them even more valuable to me this season. It’s a pricey sub but trimming other subs to get one that makes me so happy is worth the cost.
