  • The Mixed Book Box, which includes 1 board book and 2 picture books for all ages.

For every box that is purchased, Lillypost will be donating one book to a child in need through various literacy-based charities.

This review is of the Mixed Book Box for $19.95 a month. This option includes board books and picture books for families with children in both age ranges.

This box was sent to us at no cost for review. (Check out the review process post to learn more about how we review boxes.)

You can choose to have your books wrapped each month for an extra $5.00 per shipment. The paper is always nice, thick quality, and often features their signature Lillypost fox. I think this makes receiving our books just a bit more special each month.

Lillypost October 2019 "Fall" Review

Lillypost included this little note that introduces their coloring contest for the month. Kids can draw directly on the box and incorporate Finnley the Fox into the monthly theme, then share it on social media for a chance to win a prize. This month’s theme is "fall" and this card includes some fun facts related to the theme! On the back there is a note encourages your littles to enter the coloring contest, even if they've won before.

Good Morning, Farm Friends by Annie Bach - Retail Value $8.99 (found here for $7.63)

At first, I was a little underwhelmed at the thought of another farm animal book, but once I opened it, I was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful illustrations! Just look at that sunrise and that adorable llama! As for the story, it's a cute rhyming tale about everyone waking up on the farm and getting ready for the day. The kids really loved this one, all three of them (18 mos, 3, and 5), and I enjoyed reading it as well.

Bearnard's Book by Deborah Underwood - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $11.48)

This is a story about Bearnard (clever name, but I could not decide how to pronounce it and stumbled over his name all throughout the book!) who receives a letter informing him that he is going to be in his very own book. He is so excited and his imagination starts to run wild at all of the possibilities. His excitement soon turns to worry when he begins to think of all the things that could happen in the book. It all turns out okay in the end though with some encouragement from his friend Gertie. This was another cute one that the kids had fun with. We have only read it once before bed, but I know next time we read it, I'll be able to get the kids even more engaged by asking them what they would do if they were Bearnard and got to be in a book!

Nobody Hugs a Cactus by Carter Goodrich - Retail Value $17.99 (found here for $10.99)

This was another book with beautiful illustrations! Hank is kind of a grumpy cactus who likes to be left alone and prefers to keep to himself. He seems to find everyone around him an annoyance until one day a cowboy puts the idea of a hug into his head. He slowly finds himself tolerating everyone a bit more and eventually finds himself wanting some friends and even a hug! This one was cute and unique and of course, very pleasing to look at with all of those colors and some fun critters!

Verdict: This month's Lillypost selections were another set of hits! The kids all enjoyed reading these and I thought they were good stories too. I really enjoyed all of the beautiful illustrations as well. I love this mixed book option and I think that these were perfect for my three kiddos!  The total retail value of our books came to $44.97  ($30.10 with sale prices) which is great for a $24.90 ($19.95 + $4.95 shipping) box!

I am a homeschooling mom to 4 kids; 1 girl and 3 boys. While I have been reviewing boxes since 2018 and I love the luxury of trying new products, I'm also balancing it out by dabbling in a little bit of homesteading, too. We now have 4 chickens and a rabbit and my sourdough starter is going strong! I love learning about new brands and sharing the great things I find with others in hopes that they find something new to love or to fit their needs!
