British Beauty Box "The Birthday Box" Fall 2019 Review

Since this is a birthday box, we got a goodie bag to store our loot or to give away if we so choose.

Here is the info sheet for the box.

We also recieved some samples.

Emma Hardie Midas Touch Face Serum Duo, 2 x 0.5 oz tubes - Retail Value $90

Emma Hardie is a luxe UK brand, but I’ve always found the thick plastic packaging to not be very appealing. This is a very watery serum that glides across my skin before soaking in with ease, and I do like the click button dispenser that keeps both the product sterile and me from applying too much. I love that this product alone is worth the cost of the box, but other than additional hydration I didn’t notice much of an anti-aging difference from an ingredients list that includes hyaluronic acid, avocado peptides, and Edelweiss stem cells.

Ark Skincare Advanced Lip Action Plumping Lip Cream, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $42.10

This lip cream tastes absolutely horrible, which is kind of a bummer considering it goes on your lips. This definitely isn’t a product you can lick off, but it does soften and smooth my lips. I like wearing it under a lip mask at bedtime or applying this while I’m doing my makeup before wiping it off and applying liquid lipstick for smooth lips with no chaps. I don’t know if my lips look plumper after using, but they’re definitely more nourished.

Sienna X The Miracle Mask, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $46.30 (£36.00)

This mask is absolutely luscious. With 10% manuka honey, oat kernel oil, and chicory root extract, this was a nourishing and hydrating experience for my skin. This does have added fragrance pretty high up on the ingredients list that I could do without, but my skin really enjoyed this regardless. My favorite way to use this has been applying it to a clean face before getting in the shower and rinsing it off as my last step to prevent the hot water and steam from drying out my skin.

Rodial Suede Lips in Power Play, 0.08 oz - Retail Value $26

This is a classic red lip color with a matte finish that was surprisingly comfortable thanks to vitamin E. This had good staying power and didn’t transfer too much once it set!

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, 2.53 oz - Retail Value $28

This is a deep conditioning treatment you apply to damp hair before shampooing and leave in for around twenty minutes. I'm never a fan of hair treatments that involve me getting in and out of the shower, but I was impressed with how nourished and soft my hair was after using. I used the time this was in my hair to shave my odds and ends while wearing a face mask, and while I am sure I looked silly I sure did feel pampered with soft skin and hair when the last drop of water drained away. The results are worth the extra work in my mind!

Jo Hansford Illuminoil, 0.5 oz - Retail Value $15.43 (£12.00)

I have been using this on damp hair every shower since I received it, and I really like it. I use a pump or two mixed with the Aveda Damage Remedy leave-in from FabFitFun, and my hair has been noticeably stronger and healthier. I like the shine that this oil provides my hair, especially when I have my hair pulled back in braids. This oil is a thick blend of argan, pomegranate, sweet almond, and jojoba oils, so I warm it between my palms before finger combing it through my hair. I use one pump on a regular day and two if I want additional shine, and this is a product I see myself emptying before the end of 2019.

Manuka Doctor Overnight Mask, 1.7 oz - Retail Value $25

I love lavender and honey (both to eat and on my face), so I was disappointed to see that the full ingredients list of this mask was less than impressive. The fourth ingredient is Benzyl Alcohol (a drying alcohol), and there is also straight coconut oil in this which is a comedogenic ingredient. This still has a really lovely lavender scent, so I chose to use it as an in-shower mask to enjoy the lavender mask with the hot steam. I applied it to my neck, chest, and forehead (places where I do not usually break out), and I enjoyed the boost of hydration and the sensory experience, but this isn’t a mask I would use as an actual sleeping mask. The lavender scent is strong, but it fades after a few minutes so it is relaxing without being overpowering.

The Verdict: This was my first quarterly box from the British Beauty Box, and wow! The curation of high-quality products and the high value definitely make this box a winner. My two favorite new finds are the Sienna mask and Illuminoil, but all of the items were practical and performed well. Value-wise, this box has a total value of $272.83, which blows the $65 box cost out of the water.

To Wrap Up:

Can you get this box if you sign up today? Yes, this box is available until December.

Value Breakdown: This box costs $65 and I calculated a total value of $272.83, which means you are paying approximately the following per item:

  • Emma Hardie: $21.44
  • Ark: $10.03
  • Sienna X: $11.03
  • Rodial: $6.19
  • Philip Kingsley: $6.67
  • Jo Hansford: $3.67
  • Manuka Doctor: $5.95

I am a staunch believer that pineapple doesn’t belong on pizza and when I’m not working as a family law attorney I enjoy hiking the Louisiana trails (alligator sightings are a favorite!) or relaxing with Duchess, my cat. I’m a sucker for anything labeled a mystery box and I’ve never met a bath bomb I didn’t like.

This is my favorite box for skin and hair care. Their C.S. is phenomenal, shipping is fast and the products always feel luxurious.

Just tried to sign up to get the Halloween box and was so frustrated I finally gave up. There’s no place to enter the discount code no matter how many times I tried and how many times I went back. There’s no way to contact them they don’t allow a contact button and while searching the site I realized how absolutely difficult it would be to cancel.

Just checked, it appears you can only add promos to regular subscriptions but unable to for the limited edition box:/ canceling is super easy there is a button under your account. I would email them they will probably make a way to offer you the discount for the LE box, they have great customer service(so far🤞)

Looks like a great box. Will have to follow to see how the next one is as well.

I have never heard of someone getting in and out of the shower for a hair mask. I shampoo my very long hair in the kitchen sink, towel dry it, apply the mask, relax or do whatever until i want to rinse it out in the shower.

The Emma Hardie serum also has denatured alcohol in it (for those looking to avoid the ‘bad’ alcohols due to skin sensitivities).

Hi Jessica! Thank you for the informative and entertaining review. I feel I can always count on your verdict for a fair and objective take on whether the box is worth it.

I agree 100% on the taste of the plumper, it’s just awful and almost impossible to avoid it, I also hate the consistency, it’s way too thin but I continue to use it as an over night lip mask and wake up to smooth hydrated lips, no plumping at all though but I don’t need it for that purpose:) I used the mask over night and woke up to plump skin so even though I don’t like some ingredients I will continue to use it nights before going out. Not my favorite box from them but I was very pleased with this box overall:)
