Birchbox November 2019 "Beauty Imports" Curated Box #2 Review

There are two info cards in this month's Birchbox. One details the included six items. The other card talks about how to get a free makeup brush kit with a $75 shop purchase.

Lancôme Crème-Mousse Confort Foaming Cleanser, 5o ml - Estimated Value $10.80 (Buy a 125 ml full size for $27.00)

I am always excited for a generous, large sample size of a fancy cleanser! This is a heavy cream that foams when you use it and it smells of roses and other florals. It is so gentle on my dry skin and left it more hydrated after I used it. I tend to like Lancome products and this was no exception! I also think the retail price for the full size is more than reasonable for such a nice cleanser, so I might consider it as a purchase when this tube runs out.

IPKN Salad Days Veggie Extracts Resurfacing Peeling Gel, 7 ml - Estimated Value $1.49 (Buy a full-size 150 ml version for $32.00)

I don't like these peel gels because I am not convinced they actually do anything. Basically, you apply the gel then rub it in a circular motion and it pills up, and is said to collect the dead skin and remove it. I honestly just think the majority of the residue is just the product itself. Regardless, I was happy to try this since I am not super familiar with the brand, but I just don't get this sort of thing.

TLW Let’s Get Naked Frizz Fighter, 2o ml - Estimated Value $3.20 (Buy a full-size 125 ml version for $20.00)

Oooh, another new brand. This balm can be used in damp hair before styling to prevent frizz and add shine, or you can use it on dry ends as I did. It has a nice scent and absolutely made my hair smoother. Bonus points for the UVA sunscreen in the formula, especially for my color-treated babes out there!

Avène Micellar Lotion, 100 ml – Estimated Value $9.00 (Buy 200 ml for $18.00)

This is the third time I have gotten a bottle of this, mainly because I go out of my way to seek it out. I absolutely love this lotion. I use this after cleansing and before serums in my rotation, to add a little extra hydration to my skin and make sure no makeup is left. The micellar water really finds anything I may have missed while double cleansing! It also works well as a general makeup remover if you are too tired to properly wash your face, something I will admit to about once a week. It smells great, and the full size for $18 is a bargain, IMO!

Lord & Berry Glow Strobing Pencil, 0.7 g - Travel Size! Retail Value $10.00

This creamy champagne pencil looks really great as a brow bone highlighter. It also can be used anywhere you would normally use a highlighter or for a shadow or eyeliner. I appreciate the versatility! I also found it longer lasting than my normal powder products, though a pencil certainly has its disadvantages too, like sharpening when you are someone who is always at a loss for a sharpener...

Just a little glisten!

Lise Watier Rouge Gourmand Lipstick in 'Champagne', 0.05 oz - Estimated Value $7.81 (Buy a full-size 0.16 oz for $25.00)

This is a really pretty pinky nude lipstick that worked well for my skin tone, and totally enhanced a no-makeup look juuuuust enough! It is semi-sheer and has the most subtle shimmer that makes my lips look a little fuller. It also has lanolin, meaning it is super moisturizing but def. not for my vegan friends out there.

Very natural and soft.

Verdict: This curated Birchbox has an estimated value of around $42.30 which is higher than many of my recent Birchboxes. This was honestly one of my best Birchboxes in quite a while. The sample sizes were significant and the products themselves were really nice. The peeling gel was the only miss for me, but that is quite alright as I am thrilled with the rest, especially the cleanser and lotion!

I love natural/vegan beauty products, Korean skincare, unique jewelry, and weird candies from far away places. When I am not waiting for my next exciting box you can find me painting or taking photographs of interesting people. I never leave home without pug hair somewhere on my shirt and a bold lipstick on my smile.

I am so done with this box. I have Dec. left of a pre-paid year. I get surprises and they are terrible. This month 4 hair products are coming! Seriously 4! I always get warm colored lip colors that won’t work for me. I wrote and complained but nothing changed.
Not worth $15 a month in my opinion.

I have so wanted to try one of these Lise Watier Gourmand lipsticks, but of course they had to send it in a very boring color. Probably just going to swap it. Looking forward to trying most of the other items when my box arrives, though.

Ahhh I got an email that my box shipped today, but I didn’t pick a curated box this month and the website still won’t let me see what my samples are! I’m so excited… I’m so scared!

Thanks for pointing out that the Lise Watier lipstick has lanolin! (I’m not vegan, but sometimes my skin is sensitive to the ingredient.)

You are welcome Marion! I like what it does for my lips in terms of hydration, but sometimes I don’t love the taste. It comes and goes!

I got a shipping email today too, but what’s funny is that I received my box (very unexpectedly) yesterday! I can’t remember which number curated box I chose, but it was the one with the Davines Love shampoo/conditioner, Wander mascara, SR A+ retinol, Doucce lip gloss, and one or two other things I can’t recall. I think this was the earliest I’ve ever received my box!

I have been getting my Birchbox really early when I’ve picked a curated box!

I had to download the app to do it, but I finally got the contents of my box!

– Davines Liquid Spell (my pick)
– Wander mascara (ugh)
– Jane Iredale Just Kissed lip + cheek stain
– Acure Blue Tansy oil
– IPKN SPF 15 primer
– Maya Tocca perfume

Luna

Hi Megan! I was curious… how did your skin feel after using the peeling gel? Just asking because I was also skeptical like you, but the few peeling gels I’ve used (which all feel the same to me regardless of brand) I’ve noticed a difference in my skin. I notice it pills a lot more in my problem areas with virtually no pilling, sometimes none at all, in the areas that I have no issues with, then when I rinse it off my whole face feels super smooth. 🙂 Personally though, I prefer a gommage if I’m going to be rolling anything off my face. lol

Hey Luna! Sorry for the late response. I didn’t notice a real difference. But I use a lot of arguably harsh products on my face on most days, so it might be too gentle of an exfoliation maybe?
